All the people panic buying petrol

Are fucking selfish, and will be the first to moan when they're takeaway can't be delivered, they can't get a taxi, or places are short staffed as people CAN'T GET TO WORK

god I'm pissed off

There's a limit to how much anyone can actually panic buy petrol - you get one tank full and you can't buy any more until you've used some. Unlike loo roll and pasta.

If people are facing the possibility of not being able to get to work etc then it's a very logical step to buy their petrol a little earlier.

IfImLyingImDying · 24/09/2021 18:53

Yeah the whole bog roll thing was daft. COVID doesn’t even give you the shits Grin

8dpwoah · 24/09/2021 18:53

@IfImLyingImDying

But there is actually a problem… to be honest, I’ve not seen any media outlet that I follow exaggerating. There is actually a problem, we’re agreed and we also don’t if this problem is going to get worse.

I also agree that panic buying is not the solution but I can totally see where it’s come from. Like I said upthread, we’ve had a pandemic (media also “scaremongering” remember…..), warnings of shortages, actual shortages, huge inflation, more shortages, gas and electricity prices soar, then get short, then energy suppliers go bust… then people get wind that there’s fuel shortages.

People are on the bones of their arse right noe. I totally get it.

But whilst you’re all calling each others selfish fuckers and arguing who’s jobs most important, the real culprits of this shit show are getting away with it and you’re falling for it hook line and sinker.

Couldn't agree more
Nomoreusernames1244 · 24/09/2021 18:54

Or 3.5 mile walk. So I'll have to be up at 4am. Brilliant
We'll probably be short staffed, as I know alot of people live further out than me

I live 3.5 miles from work. Takes me 20 mins on a bike.

Gothichouse40 · 24/09/2021 18:54

It is mental here. The media have a lot to answer for, they have constantly banged on about shortages so now people believe it .Journalism as in proper journalism is gone, all we have is sensationalism because it sells. People continue to buy crud newspapers, I haven't bought one for years. I wouldn't give newspapers in this country my money and biased BBC and Sky aren't much better.

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 24/09/2021 18:54

There wasn't a problem in my area until today. Since covid started, the garage round the corner from me has always been quiet. I think the most cars I've seen at any one time has been three.

Today they've run out of petrol and had one pump with diesel left when I walked past it an hour or so ago. It is purely down to panic buying - if people didn't need that fuel in the last 18 months, they don't need it today.

8dpwoah · 24/09/2021 18:55

I was a bit smug with that as someone who knows how things work in countries where toilet roll is only really provided in tourist areas 😉
Pinotwoman82 · 24/09/2021 18:55

Of course, everyone turning on each other again, whilst we forget the real reasons this is happening, and if the media didn’t have it on yesterday screaming breaking news then no one would’ve any of the wiser. Most people get paid now or soon so most people will be running on almost empty, and yes I filled up today as I had about 30 miles left in the tank 🙄

Mamamia7962 · 24/09/2021 18:55

IfImLying - The problem is people panicking.

sst1234 · 24/09/2021 18:56

So basically everyone who is filling up has a good reason and no one is panic buying. That’s what this thread says. Which is probably true. Why should anyone risk running out of fuel, the govt are to blame for being Brexit cheerleaders without a plan.

IfImLyingImDying · 24/09/2021 18:57

There’s something to be said for a good old fashioned bidet @8dpwoah Grin

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 24/09/2021 18:58

When I am going downhill, gravity will allow the car to roll forward and I do not need the engine running to achieve that. When I need to go uphill, I can engage the engine and use that power to drive the car uphill against gravity

I hope I am never on the road near you when you do that. It's very dangerous to let the car roll down a hill like that. I remember years ago, not long after I learnt to drive, deciding it would be fun to coast down a hill in neutral. I learnt a lesson that day. Do. Not. Do. That. You have no control over the car Engine braking is a thing and you need it.

Nat6999 · 24/09/2021 18:58

It's no wonder thieves are going around stealing fuel from cars, several got emptied around where I live during the last couple of nights. I doubt they would get very far with my car, it's just about only got fumes left in the tank.

Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay · 24/09/2021 18:59

I do need fuel. There is none for my car but some selfish twat was at the pumps filling his car up and his jerrycan.

I’m NHS, don’t have a great bus service and won’t be able to get to work the rest of the week if I can’t find fuel on Monday.

RedToothBrush · 24/09/2021 19:00

The advice was to not go under 1/4 tank....

Sleepinghyena · 24/09/2021 19:00

Well, whilst you are mentioning can't get a takeaway delivered, can't get a taxi..
some us us are worrying about whether we can get to work. For which we need our cars... with fuel in.
No public transport, taxis very expensive due to living rurally.
It is not the fault of the people putting fuel in. They are just making sure they can get to work/get kids to school/get to supermarket for food. When you live rurally, the car is the only option for these journeys.
I am self employed working in multiple locations. Without fuel I can't work. Or therefore earn money to pay my bills.
Your post is nasty and directed at the wrong people op.

vera99 · 24/09/2021 19:00

Well if it's nothing to do with Brexit then this government is wasting it's time (yet again). Though they have been telling us there's a shortage of drivers in Europe so god knows why they would come here and where will they get them from.

"Ministers are poised to agree on an extraordinary post-Brexit U-turn that would allow foreign lorry drivers back into the UK to stave off shortages threatening fuel and food supplies."

Burnt0utMum · 24/09/2021 19:01

I've filled up today despite not needing to for another few days. I rely on my car for pretty much everything and have a disability that means walking any sort of distance is out of the question. I don't feel guilty as I didn't panic buy at the start of the first lockdown then struggled to get what I needed so have changed my attitude to if you can't beat 'em join 'em. Yes I'm compounding the problem but it's catch 22.

vera99 · 24/09/2021 19:01

I think the downhill stuff was a joke !

Coogee · 24/09/2021 19:03

I think the downhill stuff was a joke !

Really?

2beautifulbabs · 24/09/2021 19:03

It's crazy seen fisty cuffs in one petrol station earlier.
I need to fill my car up as it's on the red but the queues were horrendous at every petrol station and I really couldn't be bothered.

I feel sorry for those that need fuel like ambulance drivers nurses doctors and then food delivery drivers.

People are beyond stupid and selfish you think people would have learnt by now but nope they go crazy and become me me me fuck anyone else I'm alright jack attitude and as pp said they will be the first to moan when they can't get an ambulance when needed or food shortages happen because no one can deliver food etc etc it all has a knock on effect.

I'm lucky in that if I can't get fuel then I'll use my bike and stick my two in the bike trailer and peddle them to school if need be puffing and panting but I certainly won't turn into a Buffon panic buying🤦🏻‍♀️

DottyHarmer · 24/09/2021 19:04

Are they allowing people to fill up jerrycans? Surely not. Now that is super selfish.

It was gridlock round here today. And I don’t believe for a microsecond that every single queuer needed to fill up. I saw mostly retired people queuing. They had the time and were plain selfish and greedy.

MrsR87 · 24/09/2021 19:05

We’re collecting a new car on Monday and it’s about 30 miles away. I’m hoping the dealership manage to put enough petrol in to get us home! I really don’t want to get stranded!

girlmom21 · 24/09/2021 19:05

How could you possibly know they're retired?
MurielSpriggs · 24/09/2021 19:06

Don't have a car, but I'd be filling up if I had!

It's an irregular verb:

I'm making prudent provision at a time of shortage.

You are being rather selfish.

She is panic buying, spreading chaos, and directly responsible for the deaths of old ladies.
