Why is Sabina Nessa murder not all over the media?

Such a tragic killing and sad, truly awful to hear about this murder.

Though I can't understand why, it doesn't get the same media/public attention as Sarah Everard who died in similarly tragic circumstances not long ago.

Both are equally tragic, two young women attacked in similar circumstances - the only difference I can see in these cases is the colour of their skin. Sarah's murder was everywhere - before we knew it was a police officer responsible.

Women had lined the streets in protest to make the country a safer place for women.

I can't help but notice where are these women protesting for Sabina? Or for the Killmarsh murders, or other women of colour?

The media treats women of colour - even to this day - very differently to white women.

It feels like the media are sending a clear message that black lives STILL 'don't matter' quite as much as their white counterparts.

Yes I appreciate there are news articles about it, but it hasn't dominated the news anywhere near Sarah ever area murder IMO

I've seen this reported a lot today. I might be wrong but didn't we know quite early on with Sarah Everard that it was a police officer under suspicion which made the story and protests much bigger?

Its a terrible story and my heart goes out to her family and friends.

Didn't Sarah seem to go missing for a few days before her body was found? Maybe this is why? There was a big hunt for her.

As far as I am aware Sarah Everards friends worked very hard to get media attention as she was missing was 6? days before her body was found. It didn't get huge media attention in the beginning but the longer she was missing the more attention it got then add in the fact that the perpetrator was in the police force

Reclaim the Streets are taking the same action for both women.

I read that in the media, as it is front page news.

I thought this too. Yes, there is media coverage but nowhere near as much. Worse though is that my social media was flooded with messages re Sarah yet there is nothing now. I personally dislike posting "support" in this way on social media, regardless of the cause, but it's really eye opening / upsetting that those same people are silent now.

Sarah's case was different as she had gone missing and there was a search. There have been many cases which get similar attention where someone is missing, people wait hoping they are found alive.

I hope that Sabina's case receives appropriate attention and that her killer is found, she deserves justice.

It's been trending on Twitter today and I'm from the Borough, my Facebook is full of reposts about it today and the council have also released a statement on Instagram but it is weird that her body was found last week and there wasn't so much press then. I do agree that women of colour are not given the same level of attention or concern when they go missing. Another woman has gone missing within the Borough but there was very little press about her, she is white but in her 50s so I think age is also a factor as to how much publicity a person's disappearance gets.

We were in the midst of Covid when Sarah everard died and this didn't detract from it.

Even Kate Middleton went to pay tributes - it was a huge huge story.

Because she was black.

And uncomfortable truth, but a truth nonetheless. Racism is alive and well in Britain

As a white woman I agree.

It's true that Sarah Everard was missing beforehand which pulled in the media but that in itself seemed disproportionate to the minimal reporting of missing black women.

Although my hatred is mostly with the piece of shit man who had done this.
