‘Nice’ Things That Aren’t Actually

Just a random musing.

Breakfast in bed- lovely idea, reality is you need to get up for a wee and then a tray is plonked on your lap, and groggy from sleep you are supposed to exclaim in delight over bits of pastry flaking into your sheets and slopping coffee down yourself and trying to subtly get the sluggy bits of fat off the bacon because you usually just get medallions.

Relaxing massage- I went the other day and I kept thinking ‘I’ll switch off and enjoy it in a minute’ but just kept thinking about whether to get the tube or the bus home and if there are oven chips in the freezer or not or if I watered my peace lily last week and if not it’s probably died. Then it was finished and it cost me £80.

Anyone got anything they can add to things that sound so nice as an idea but in reality are just not really?

i hate paying for stuff I can do far better and cheaper at home
I have a relative like this,and I’ve only twice persuaded her to come to a restaurant. She spent the whole time grimacing and saying I could make that at home much cheaper. Perusing the menu was a cue for inhalation of breath and tsking..how much

Socialising

Ski holidays are the best! Fresh air, sunshine and exercise, escaping UK winter.

Window1 · 23/09/2021 22:44

Having hair and nails done.

Plumtree391 · 23/09/2021 23:25

I don't like having hair done, it's so tedious; much prefer to do my own, and my nails.

Neveranynamesleft · 23/09/2021 23:54

False nails. Horrible things.

Plumtree391 · 24/09/2021 14:18

Oh yes, Neverany, they look so fake too. Horrible things.

@Tzimi

Drivers giving way to you, when they have right of way really. Sometimes a driver will stop to let you in, even though he's the the only car in the street. If he'd just gone past, you could have easily pulled out anyway.
Yes, it's not really very helpful, is it?

Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset

Can't agree with this.
Hallowbat · 24/09/2021 16:52

Hot tubs, I just don’t get the fascination of sitting in them getting pruny

Zeal · 24/09/2021 17:00

@Window1 You don't have to.

Window1 · 24/09/2021 17:03
@Window1 You don't have to.
I know, just pointing out my thoughts as I've nodded in agreement with most posts.

Out of interest what is it that you find not nice? I was thinking of the beach and recall lovely sand and a beautiful sea.

Zeal · 24/09/2021 17:10

I did not like the vibe. The traffic, the parking, the architecture, the signage. I don't get that what should have been a tranquil national treasure has been ruined by hemmed in over development. It is not what I expected having heard all the hype.

WheelieBinPrincess · 24/09/2021 17:12

I’m not keen on sandbanks either 🤷🏻‍♀️

But the boat trip from Brownsea Island and around it is really lovely.

Fair points.

Pimms

DuesToTheDirt · 24/09/2021 17:19

Pubs, especially noisy ones.

You pay lots of money to shout at your friends and not hear a word they say in return. Then you queue for ages to get in rounds that you can't remember and can't carry. Would rather have a drink at home.

At least there's a smoking ban these days.

Neveranynamesleft · 25/09/2021 15:13

Christmas.

Eugh yes and hot tubs are a germy bath. Detritus and body bits at an ambient temperature vigorously being recirculated
Egghead68 · 29/09/2021 08:11

Night clubs. Pay a lot to go deaf and get sexually harrassed.

Dorisspider · 04/10/2021 10:35

Pubs, unless in the country.
Banter.
Soap Operas.
Blockbuster novels.
Shopping.
