Yes, it always amuses me when people reference threads like this that were 1. Not that funny/ interesting and 2. Reported in mainstream press so don’t prove anything!

So they aren’t accused of being a troll. If it’s a dramatic post or asking for advice on a sensitive subject, some posters will assume it’s a troll if the poster has no posting history (which can appear to be the case when they have name changed).

It used to be to preface a potentially trollable subject but it's so overdone now it's a standard opener for anything.

They say that because of the troll hunters who accuse almost everyone of being a troll. Same reason why people say NC or NCed at the start of their post to signify they've name changed otherwise people Advance Search their name and say why is this your first post, are you a troll, bla bla bla.
