DH charged me for Steak...but I'm a Veggie!

Not irate/upset/annoyed but just wanted to see how others would feel if it were them...

DH is a lovely guy but has his quirks (don't we all). For context, we split the household bills and big purchases 50/50 so he transfers the money into my account on the 1st of each month. For anything else, we just buy what we want/need out of our own money.

A few weeks ago, DH and I had some beauty treatments by a self-employed beautician who has a beauty room at home but is also mobile. I've only visited her a handful of times before, so we're friendly, but not friends. Before we left, she was telling us about other treatments she does, so DH and I booked in for a massage at our home (DH said he would pay as a treat) which took place a couple of days ago. As we were leaving, DH asked her if she liked steak, to which she said yes, so DH told her that he would make a steak dinner for her (DH loves to cook). I thought it was a bit odd offering to make dinner for her when she was coming over to work, but it was a friendly enough gesture by him. Please note this was his gesture, not mine. I would've just given her a tip at the end!

Anyway, the day of the massage arrived; DH went to the butchers and bought the steak. While I was enjoying my massage, he was cooking away in the kitchen. Beautician ate and enjoyed the steak and DH was loving the compliments.

Yesterday morning, 1st of the month, direct debits due, I checked my bank account and found that DH had transferred £20 less than he should have. When I asked him why, he told me, "for the steak!" I wouldn't have minded but I'm a vegetarian so I don't even eat bloody steak!

Yes, he paid for my massage...thought it was a treat, but it cost me £20 in the end. Still a bargain I suppose! What would you think?

This post gets weirder each time I read it.

SonicStars · 02/09/2021 20:31

This is hilarious!

Or is it another "wild goose chase" and we're missing the detail change to preserve anonymity?

Was the masseuse actually a plumber and he gave her a makeover but charged you for it because it was your tampon that blocked the u bend?
Shame on you flushing tampons!

SonicStars · 02/09/2021 20:31

No. That makes no more sense

Tlollj · 02/09/2021 20:31

Now that’s what you call a happy ending!!
Was there chips?

PigeonPigPie · 02/09/2021 20:31

Also who wants to get up and cook a steak dinner immediately after a lovely massage??

BikeRunSki · 02/09/2021 20:32

@Mamamia7962

Wouldn't it be easier to just have a joint account instead of faffing about.

I'm just waiting for the punchline! This is just sooooo bizarre!

TractorAndHeadphones · 02/09/2021 20:34

WTF did I just read????
Id have objected to paying anything but not because of being veggie - because massage is supposed to be a treat. Treat means m every expense. Tips included.

Damn odd to make her a steak tho. Does he have some sort of complex and need to get compliments from younger women…????

AlrightThereSkippy · 02/09/2021 20:34

This is quite a strange one!

Um...I think your DH was definitely U for inviting the beauty therapist for dinner. She was quite strange for accepting. It was strange of your DH to charge you for her meal as if you had eaten it. It is also quite strange that you separate out your bills down to the last steak. Lots of strangeness, which honestly does make it quite difficult to assess who is U!

atleastthepoochlovesme · 02/09/2021 20:34

Keep going Mumsnetters!! The comments are having me in stitches!

It's definitely not a "sex thing." He honestly doesn't fancy her and neither do I!

Yes it was all a bit weird, hence my gauging opinions and there is no pettiness here. £20 is neither here nor there. Could've been 20p but I was looking at it from a principle perspective, that's all.

DH is not great with finances so we keep it separate. I don't see why it's a problem to have sole bank accounts? My grandparents god rest their souls, had separate ones. I have my own earnings, savings and investments. It's all good my end.

No I didn't "agree" but I didn't disagree to the dinner either.

She ate between massages..maybe my massage took it out of her and she needed the protein for energy!

Salad and chips were served! And that's what the veggie ate along with some Quorn burgers!

£40 steak = London prices!

Did he have steak too? As in did you all have dinner together just yours was veggie?

Honestly the best thread I’ve seen on here for ages. What joint beauty treatments do you go to her together for then?

And who is she really? 😂😂😂

AlrightThereSkippy · 02/09/2021 20:35

DH and I have separate bank accounts, (there is a reason). But we don't split bills down to each item in every meal... Sometimes I shop for groceries and sometimes DH does.

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2021 20:36

This is the thread that keeps giving.

So she massaged you, then you all sat down and had dinner together rhen she went off and “massaged” him?

Aye. 😂😂😂

StubbleTurnips · 02/09/2021 20:36

Freaking out about who got the post massage steak hands. Beefy.

burritofan · 02/09/2021 20:36

Is this all in code? It wasn’t a steak, it was a horse. Not DH but your BIL. Not a couples massage but a spa day. Not money but a text.

beastlyslumber · 02/09/2021 20:36

@SummerHouse

I normally tip the hairdresser but maybe I will offer to grill her some garlic prawns next time.
This made me laugh so hard! Grin
Frazzled2207 · 02/09/2021 20:36

I’m just LOL at the thought of your dh cooking a steak for the masseuse that he barely knows!

And yeah he is bloody petty to charge you £20 for a steak you didn’t eat.

MysweetAudrina · 02/09/2021 20:37

Are you sure it was steak and not pulled pork?

AlrightThereSkippy · 02/09/2021 20:37

@StubbleTurnips

Freaking out about who got the post massage steak hands. Beefy.
Genuinely laughed aloud at that.
Iggly · 02/09/2021 20:37

@GreyhoundG1rl

All very odd. Both splitting the shopping bills to the penny, and cooking the masseuse a steak dinner. Incredibly odd, actually.
This!!
IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 02/09/2021 20:37

So he fed her a nice romantic meal and then had his massage?!

GreyhoundG1rl · 02/09/2021 20:37

£40 steak = London prices!
No.

atleastthepoochlovesme · 02/09/2021 20:38

I'm loving and laughing at this thread as if it wasn't my own experience!! 🤣🤣🤣

Can you imagine doing a massage in a hot room with your usual customers DH. after eating what was clearly a 10lb steak.

NewMutiny · 02/09/2021 20:39

Was this not the most awkward meal ever? You both in your bathrobes watching her eat her chips? There isn't an emoji to adequately convey my cringe...
