DH charged me for Steak...but I'm a Veggie!

Not irate/upset/annoyed but just wanted to see how others would feel if it were them...

DH is a lovely guy but has his quirks (don't we all). For context, we split the household bills and big purchases 50/50 so he transfers the money into my account on the 1st of each month. For anything else, we just buy what we want/need out of our own money.

A few weeks ago, DH and I had some beauty treatments by a self-employed beautician who has a beauty room at home but is also mobile. I've only visited her a handful of times before, so we're friendly, but not friends. Before we left, she was telling us about other treatments she does, so DH and I booked in for a massage at our home (DH said he would pay as a treat) which took place a couple of days ago. As we were leaving, DH asked her if she liked steak, to which she said yes, so DH told her that he would make a steak dinner for her (DH loves to cook). I thought it was a bit odd offering to make dinner for her when she was coming over to work, but it was a friendly enough gesture by him. Please note this was his gesture, not mine. I would've just given her a tip at the end!

Anyway, the day of the massage arrived; DH went to the butchers and bought the steak. While I was enjoying my massage, he was cooking away in the kitchen. Beautician ate and enjoyed the steak and DH was loving the compliments.

Yesterday morning, 1st of the month, direct debits due, I checked my bank account and found that DH had transferred £20 less than he should have. When I asked him why, he told me, "for the steak!" I wouldn't have minded but I'm a vegetarian so I don't even eat bloody steak!

Yes, he paid for my massage...thought it was a treat, but it cost me £20 in the end. Still a bargain I suppose! What would you think?

He sounds petty and tight

ChargingBuck · 03/09/2021 17:00

@ChequerBoard I'm a sockpuppet? Who knew? Fame at last!

Funny how you haven't reported the suspected sockpuppetry innit.
Or maybe you have, but MNHQ have rejected your assumptions, because they are 1) batshit & 2) erroneous.

SilverGlassHare · 03/09/2021 17:04

If it were £40 for both steaks, basically he’s paid for his own and you’ve paid for hers, when the whole bizarro world idea of cooking a steak for the mobile beautician was entirely his. It would be bad enough if he was charging you £10 (so 50% of the cost of the masseuse’s steak). But he’s making you pay for the whole “gift” of the steak.

Those wondering why the beautician agreed to sit and eat the steak mid couple’s massage - I bet she was worried she wouldn’t get out of there unscathed if she refused.

atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 17:14

@ChequerBoard nope..just this bit from @azimuth299 "I would definitely ask why"
Chequerboard, maybe you don't ask your partner questions for fear of not liking the answers??

@ChargingBuck

I'm having a mobile beautician round to give me a facial & want to impress her with the quality & creativity of my Meat Tip (ooer missus).

I think this recipe should do it, what do you reckon OP?

@ChargingBuck any steak on that platter?! 🤣

@atleastthepoochlovesme
The very idea!
It's only a facial, not a full body massage. I wouldn't want to embarrass the beautician by being too showy.

No, I don't have to fear asking my DH questions but then we don't quiz each each over spending £20.

Plus, he would never be so crass as to embarrass a mobile beautician into having a dinner with him.

atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 17:20

@ChequerBoard "Plus, he would never be so crass as to embarrass a mobile beautician into having a dinner with him."

Maybe he doesn't make a good steak?🥩

Chequerboard how is your husband today, have you cooked his meal for him or have spent too much time snipping at the op.

BedisBliss · 03/09/2021 17:20

This thread has to go in Classics - I have been the weirdo snorting and trying to stifle laughs on the train home. It's made my Friday!

gettingolderbutcooler · 03/09/2021 17:20

@GetMeOut22

I think the dynamic is weird, he's fucking weird for cooking the therapist a steak, and you're weird for putting up with it. Also, how is a steak £40?
And the massage therapist is a bit weird too!!
atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 17:22

@ChargingBuck well at least microwave it all before serving! 🤣🤣

OP posts:
gettingolderbutcooler · 03/09/2021 17:22

Maybe he wanted the masseuse to run it into his back, all hot and meaty.

paddingtonbearmeetsdeadpool · 03/09/2021 17:22

atleastthepoochlovesme some people don't have a sense of humour.

atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 17:23

@paddingtonbearmeetsdeadpool I don't think he'll be getting steak!

OP posts:
ChargingBuck · 03/09/2021 17:24

Rightho, @atleastthepoochlovesme. It's important to do the thing properly, innit.
Reckon 60 minutes at full whack should do it?

ChequerBoard · 03/09/2021 17:26

@paddingtonbearmeetsdeadpool

Chequerboard how is your husband today, have you cooked his meal for him or have spent too much time snipping at the op.
My DH is fine and more than capable of cooking his own dinner, thanks. Do you have to run and play wifey/cook to yours?

I've responded to the numerals @mentions I've had from the OP who seems to want to have a personal discussion with me about her weird ways. Not sure why I'm being singled out when so many others have said the same things I have?!?

GreyhoundG1rl · 03/09/2021 17:27

So it's all a joke, then? Finding this whole farcical tale extremely odd doesn't imply a lack of humour at all, imo. Some things are funny, some things are just weird.
NinaGonk · 03/09/2021 17:28

I like this parallel world where we all tip with food. Am gonna ask the next taxi driver I use whether they like sausage rolls Grin

BedisBliss · 03/09/2021 17:29

@therearenogoodusernamesleft

OP. Why did you not, at any point, say 'no, we're not going to ask the masseur to have steak with us, you absolute psycho'?
This thread just gets better!
SunbathingDragon · 03/09/2021 17:29

She must have assumed steak was a euphemism. Was she disappointed or relieved when it was served up?

Vinomummyinlockdown · 03/09/2021 17:31

WTAF

[scratches head in dumbstruck wonder]
Erm ... dunno @ChequerBoard ... but do you think it just might be connected with your remarkable persistence, & decision to accuse the OP of running a sockpuppet?

CommanderBurnham · 03/09/2021 17:32

Tell him the massage was a treat. Why should you then pay for the steak?

Casiloco · 03/09/2021 17:33

On top of all the weirdnesses that other PPs have so eloquently pointed out , if you really were inviting someone who was working for you for a meal, why the hell would you serve that meal IN THE. MIDDLE of their worktime? Surely, you would wait until all massages were complete (can't believe I'm writing this!) and then have the meal together at the end!?

After all, it only takes a few minutes to cook a steak - even when you are NOT microwaving it Shock

This just makes it all even more weird if that is even possible, which I doubt. . Not in any universe, alternative or otherwise.
