DH charged me for Steak...but I'm a Veggie!

Not irate/upset/annoyed but just wanted to see how others would feel if it were them...

DH is a lovely guy but has his quirks (don't we all). For context, we split the household bills and big purchases 50/50 so he transfers the money into my account on the 1st of each month. For anything else, we just buy what we want/need out of our own money.

A few weeks ago, DH and I had some beauty treatments by a self-employed beautician who has a beauty room at home but is also mobile. I've only visited her a handful of times before, so we're friendly, but not friends. Before we left, she was telling us about other treatments she does, so DH and I booked in for a massage at our home (DH said he would pay as a treat) which took place a couple of days ago. As we were leaving, DH asked her if she liked steak, to which she said yes, so DH told her that he would make a steak dinner for her (DH loves to cook). I thought it was a bit odd offering to make dinner for her when she was coming over to work, but it was a friendly enough gesture by him. Please note this was his gesture, not mine. I would've just given her a tip at the end!

Anyway, the day of the massage arrived; DH went to the butchers and bought the steak. While I was enjoying my massage, he was cooking away in the kitchen. Beautician ate and enjoyed the steak and DH was loving the compliments.

Yesterday morning, 1st of the month, direct debits due, I checked my bank account and found that DH had transferred £20 less than he should have. When I asked him why, he told me, "for the steak!" I wouldn't have minded but I'm a vegetarian so I don't even eat bloody steak!

Yes, he paid for my massage...thought it was a treat, but it cost me £20 in the end. Still a bargain I suppose! What would you think?

@Phobiaphobic

What I think is I'll never ever understand why some people run their marriages like this. Newsflash - if you get divorced you'll have to share everything out anyway. What on earth does all this book-keeping between you actually achieve? Why marry if you're not going to unite your finances? It sounds completely exhausting, like you're both in some kind of weird flat share.
I dont think this thread is the place for common sense. Anyway, we've now to add 'refuse collector's bbq' to our Christmas list of things to do.
Wineandroses3 · 02/09/2021 23:58

Well said Charging Buck spot on

midlifecrash · 02/09/2021 23:59

Is his name Neil?

atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 00:01

@Phobiaphobic that's ok. No need for you to understand. Everyone lives differently. After all, if we were all the same, all our husbands would be making steak dinners for our masseuses, right? 😂
Not planning on getting a divorce by the way, now, near or far future.

This is weird . All of it .

@CorianderBee

It's really weird to make a beautician a steak tbh
Are there other professions where it would be more normal? 😂
QueenPeary · 03/09/2021 00:07

Not managed to read the whole thread because I’m starting to get really irritated by the word “steak”.

TSSDNCOP · 03/09/2021 00:08

So she still has to massage DH having been corralled into a steak dinner ménage a trois. Did the poor woman have to compliment the steak throughout his massage.

Mmm yes lovely marbelling
Mmm yes lovely grilling

Like some kind of wagu kink

RantyAunty · 03/09/2021 00:10

Truly bizarre.

I'm curious as to your DHs thought process on how he thought cooking her dinner was a good idea?

She would have appreciated the £40 more as a tip.

callmeadoctor · 03/09/2021 00:10

OP you have posted on here 59 times since 8 o'clock thurs ( its now midnight Thursday so 4 hours), I think thats more weird than your post to be honest!!!

atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 00:12

@HadEnoughOfBears she was very comfortable with that plate of steak! She tucked right in! Lol!
My DH loves cooking and entertaining. We throw parties and bbq's with food and drink a-plenty. Obviously less so now with Covid.
I did ask DH what ever possessed him to offer to cook and in short, I think he just misses cooking for a "guest." Even though she wasn't a "guest." And as someone earlier up the thread he said (tongue in cheek but not a million miles away), he missed cooking meat just for himself.

...now here come the cynics....

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 03/09/2021 00:15

It's still bloody odd though, OP! Would he have asked the electrician or the estate agent?

atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 00:16

@callmeadoctor no more weird than you counting posts and the timeframe in which they were posted!
And people think I'm weird! Lol!

I didn't count them OP, it comes up in your "See all" search

I certainly couldn't be bothered counting them OP! Grin

atleastthepoochlovesme · 03/09/2021 00:20

@JesusIsAnyNameFree agreed. That's why I posted because I did find it odd. And then to be charged for it! Lol!

The cynics will say he wants a shag. That's fine. My DH is a good guy. That's not to say he always will be, I don't see the world through rose-tinted glasses, but I hope he will continue to be a good guy and I live in the moment and it's good right now 🙌🏻

OP posts:
callmeadoctor · 03/09/2021 00:22

62 posts now Grin No need for me to count either Grin

Pebbledashery · 03/09/2021 00:23

@namechange7865

This is officially the weirdest thread I've seen on MN....
This. Every time I read this thread.
BorderlineBagpuss · 03/09/2021 00:24

Absolutely the most fucking bonkers thing I have ever read on here, and that really is saying something.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 03/09/2021 00:25

I don't think he necessarily wants a shag but I do think he might have taken a slight shine to the woman. If it was a 63 year old rotund, grey haired lady named Olga, I think the offer may not have been put on the table.

However, a man taking a shine to another woman doesn't mean he wants to ravage her, especially not on Mumsnet. I would have given my husband the iciest of stares had it been me personally, but he wouldn't even offer his own mum a steak dinner tbf.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 03/09/2021 00:26

Husband laughed at the problem with this being the £20 as well 😂

Toria84 · 03/09/2021 00:27

@ohidoliketobe

Sorry, I can't answer your question about the steak. I'm still really confused that he cooked a steak dinner for the therapist who had just given you a couples massage... And she just sat and ate it? In your home? Confused
@ohidoliketobe

🤣🤣

Yep… me too!!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 03/09/2021 00:27

He's steaken you for a ride 😂

callmeadoctor · 03/09/2021 00:27

But the OP has given us all a laugh, to be fair Grin
