DH charged me for Steak...but I'm a Veggie!

Not irate/upset/annoyed but just wanted to see how others would feel if it were them...

DH is a lovely guy but has his quirks (don't we all). For context, we split the household bills and big purchases 50/50 so he transfers the money into my account on the 1st of each month. For anything else, we just buy what we want/need out of our own money.

A few weeks ago, DH and I had some beauty treatments by a self-employed beautician who has a beauty room at home but is also mobile. I've only visited her a handful of times before, so we're friendly, but not friends. Before we left, she was telling us about other treatments she does, so DH and I booked in for a massage at our home (DH said he would pay as a treat) which took place a couple of days ago. As we were leaving, DH asked her if she liked steak, to which she said yes, so DH told her that he would make a steak dinner for her (DH loves to cook). I thought it was a bit odd offering to make dinner for her when she was coming over to work, but it was a friendly enough gesture by him. Please note this was his gesture, not mine. I would've just given her a tip at the end!

Anyway, the day of the massage arrived; DH went to the butchers and bought the steak. While I was enjoying my massage, he was cooking away in the kitchen. Beautician ate and enjoyed the steak and DH was loving the compliments.

Yesterday morning, 1st of the month, direct debits due, I checked my bank account and found that DH had transferred £20 less than he should have. When I asked him why, he told me, "for the steak!" I wouldn't have minded but I'm a vegetarian so I don't even eat bloody steak!

Yes, he paid for my massage...thought it was a treat, but it cost me £20 in the end. Still a bargain I suppose! What would you think?

Steak... for the masseuse....??

katieak · 02/09/2021 21:53

@annacondom

I haven't rtft but I, as a veggie, could not enjoy my nice relaxing massage if there was the smell of cooking steak wafting through the house. Also, the set up with money between the two of you seems very odd.
Oh you really need to read Grin
MeredithGreyishblue · 02/09/2021 21:53

@youvegottenminuteslynn

If I was a masseuse and a couple suggested I enjoy a steak dinner with them along with their massage treatment I would be looking for pampas grass outside their house...
Yes!
Ladylimpet · 02/09/2021 21:54

@MeredithGreyishblue

Please tell us what you get up to tomorrow! And every day after that.

Your life is like a weird art house film.

Absolutely this!! Absolutely piss funny.
atleastthepoochlovesme · 02/09/2021 21:54

@Crispyturtle the financial set-up suits me fine. It may not others but it does me.

Don't know why a couple of you are saying I'm "shoe-Horning" in the 5* resorts. Just because we are lucky enough to have them, doesn't mean we don't work hard or are ungrateful. For many years I cut out the coupons for the £9.50 The Sun holidays so my children could have a holiday. That means I have a fair basis for appreciation. Don't knock me for working hard. I mentioned them for context. That is all.

Sorry op but your husband sounds like something from the league of gentlemen.

atleastthepoochlovesme · 02/09/2021 21:58

@liveforsummer he actually is a fab cook!

OP posts:
winewolfhowls · 02/09/2021 21:59

Although tbh i wouldn't say no to a good steak if it was offered. Meat fuelled sex romp not so much.

atleastthepoochlovesme · 02/09/2021 21:59

@winewolfhowls don't apologise... not your fault I married him! 🤣

hedgehogger1 · 02/09/2021 22:00

Nothing about this makes sense

Ladylimpet · 02/09/2021 22:00

I'm not a particularly amazing cook. But even I know you don't buy a nice expensive steak and put it in a friggin microwave. Nice one op👍🏼

winewolfhowls · 02/09/2021 22:01

I love that you are taking all these comments in good humour

Excelthetube · 02/09/2021 22:01

Who even says
Steak dinner

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/09/2021 22:01

@atleastthepoochlovesme

Keep going Mumsnetters!! The comments are having me in stitches!

It's definitely not a "sex thing." He honestly doesn't fancy her and neither do I!

Yes it was all a bit weird, hence my gauging opinions and there is no pettiness here. £20 is neither here nor there. Could've been 20p but I was looking at it from a principle perspective, that's all.

DH is not great with finances so we keep it separate. I don't see why it's a problem to have sole bank accounts? My grandparents god rest their souls, had separate ones. I have my own earnings, savings and investments. It's all good my end.

No I didn't "agree" but I didn't disagree to the dinner either.

She ate between massages..maybe my massage took it out of her and she needed the protein for energy!

Salad and chips were served! And that's what the veggie ate along with some Quorn burgers!

£40 steak = London prices!

She ate between massages… maybe my massage took it out of her and she needed protein for energy!

I’d say she had protein for pudding as well. And that she took something out of him, which is why he subsequently needed protein for energy… No one ever heard of steak and blow job night?!

This has got to be a wind up!

Excelthetube · 02/09/2021 22:01

I didn’t have dinner tonight. I really want a steak for some weird reason.

anotherdeadorchid · 02/09/2021 22:02

@lunar1

What kind of paid for massage ends in a steak dinner!
A happy ending Shock
Butterflyfluff · 02/09/2021 22:02

@Excelthetube

Who even says Steak dinner
Del Boy!
atleastthepoochlovesme · 02/09/2021 22:03

@Excelthetube maybe I should've worded it "Steak for dinner?"

mamamalt · 02/09/2021 22:04

So much weird. I feel like I'm going to be randomly thinking about this thread for a really long time...

diamondpony80 · 02/09/2021 22:04

We don’t even cook £40 steaks for our own family, never mind someone coming to our house to do a job. The best they’d get is tea and a biscuit. Maybe a tip too. If my DH offered to cook dinner for someone he’d be paying for it himself, particularly if I didn’t even have any!

AlrightThereSkippy · 02/09/2021 22:04

I agree, this was the bit which took it too far....which is hilarious in itself.

liveforsummer · 02/09/2021 22:05
@liveforsummer he actually is a fab cook!
Which I had believed until the microwaving of said £20 fillet 😆

atleastthepoochlovesme · 02/09/2021 22:06

@mamamalt and all of you...sorry for the trauma I've caused! Or rather, DH had caused! 🤣

dopeyduck · 02/09/2021 22:06

This is utterly bizarre. My mind is quite literally blown, that situation is so odd.

YukoandHiro · 02/09/2021 22:07

You're married, so - it's all shared money anyway?
