To have farted in Yoga class and be terrified of returning?

FlatulenceFearer · 21/08/2021 22:23

I knew it could happen and had even read tips on stopping it happening before I went so of course, it was all I could think about, and I bloody did it!

What was worse is that I was a little late so was right at the front of the class. The instructor turned to look at me so i know he heard and there were a few titters behind meBlush. The mats made it reverberate a bit as well.

I spent the rest of the class pretending I had cramp in my legs so couldn’t lift them up.

It was excruciating but I really want to get into Yoga for the relaxation benefits.

I just know it’s going to happen again (undercarriage is wrecked due to having 5 DC and I’m a vegetarian so naturally gassy) so should I just get over my embarrassment and accept it might be a natural side effect? We’re all adults after all.

Will I be known as the farty one?

No one else farted I think. If everyone was doing it I wouldn’t mind so much!

It’s fine OP. Normal in yoga every once in a while. No one will care next week.

MsFogi · 21/08/2021 22:26

Don't give it another thought! Let's face it everyone else in the class was just relieved it was you instead of them and next class it will be one of them. Yoga classes are like playing Russian roulette with the possibility of breaking wind in public.

You are not the only 1, plenty of other people will have at some point.

I did when I was attending an antenatal class, a long time ago.

Lavender24 · 21/08/2021 22:28

Oh god I'd be mortified!! Honestly I don't think I could go back if it was me but I'm very prudish about farting 😂😂 You have my sympathies though - I have digestive issues myself (vegan too so eat loads of veggies and lentils) and spend half my life worrying about this sort of thing.

woodhill · 21/08/2021 22:32

Happened to me at a work based Yoga class, hopefully it wasn't too noticeable but didn't go back

stealingbeauty · 21/08/2021 22:32

Keep going to the class. Sooner or later someone else will fart in there anyway.

ClaraMumsnet · 21/08/2021 22:33

Just nipping on to say we don't think this is the fart troll. Yes, we have a fart troll. As you were, OP.

MNHQ have already said they are not.

Bobmonkfish · 21/08/2021 22:35

I am sure this will be me one day too OP. Some positions help you poo, so they'll help you fart!

Bookaholic73 · 21/08/2021 22:35

I really want to go to a yoga class, but this is the nightmare that that prevents me from going!

EatSprayGlove · 21/08/2021 22:36

Oh OP! I have stopped yoga as I'm scared of this happening post children and I need to get over myself as I used to go 4x a week and I really miss it. I've tried yoga at home and I do loads of pelvic floor exercises but after birth injuries I'll never be right and this is really likely. Handholding to encourage us both to brave yoga again!

plodalong12 · 21/08/2021 22:37

Mmhmm. Sure.

ineedsun · 21/08/2021 22:38

Everyone farts in yoga, sometimes it’s loud, sometimes it’s not.

I used to start my first classes with a little blurb about how yoga helps us release things, sometimes it’s tension, sometimes it’s emotions and sometimes it’s farts and all of that is OK.

I’m a teacher by the way, not just a random who shares their opinion in yoga classes.

pickingdaisies · 21/08/2021 22:39

Take a windeze before you go!

WTF475878237NC · 21/08/2021 22:40

I wouldn't go back personally but good on you if you do!

showmethegin · 21/08/2021 22:41

I would love to know what kind of movement you were doing from a woman who had a lltez procedure yesterday under general and now I can't go to the toilet! Grin

Phyllis321 · 21/08/2021 22:45

Don’t worry, it’s not unusual. Bikram yoga is the worst for mighty trumps, apparently.
My friend still recounts in indignation when a scantily-clad man’s ball sweat dripped on her mat in a busy Bikram class Grin.

I sometimes wish HQ would just have a running list of the trolls. Or a klaxon:

FART TROLL IN THE DUNGEON! Or something.

OP I would be mortified but I would definitely go back even if there was a danger of letting rip with another Bronx Cheer.

LozzaChops101 · 21/08/2021 22:48

This is what stops me from taking up Yoga or Pilates! SadGrin

Crazycrazylady · 21/08/2021 22:50

I'd absolutely go back after a random fart. I'm sure that happens everyone once and a while however I probably wouldn't be brave enough to go back if I knew I would fart my way through each session 😳

seven201 · 21/08/2021 22:53

I used to go to a Thai chi class when I was 17. Had to stop going as it always made me have to run to the bathroom for a poo. One time I had to throw my pants away in the sanitary bin as I didn't quite make it!

Armychefbethebest · 21/08/2021 22:53

Dangerous territory these exercise classes judging by all the snapping and farting that goes on 🤣🤣🤣 sorry couldnt resist x

ineedsun · 21/08/2021 22:57

Apanasana is wind relieving pose. Do right leg first then left, then both together.
