To have farted in Yoga class and be terrified of returning?

FlatulenceFearer · 21/08/2021 22:23

I knew it could happen and had even read tips on stopping it happening before I went so of course, it was all I could think about, and I bloody did it!

What was worse is that I was a little late so was right at the front of the class. The instructor turned to look at me so i know he heard and there were a few titters behind meBlush. The mats made it reverberate a bit as well.

I spent the rest of the class pretending I had cramp in my legs so couldn’t lift them up.

It was excruciating but I really want to get into Yoga for the relaxation benefits.

I just know it’s going to happen again (undercarriage is wrecked due to having 5 DC and I’m a vegetarian so naturally gassy) so should I just get over my embarrassment and accept it might be a natural side effect? We’re all adults after all.

Will I be known as the farty one?

No one else farted I think. If everyone was doing it I wouldn’t mind so much!

Just depends if your fart was stinky or not. If no smell, all giod, if there was a whiff, sorry but I wouldn't be happy.

myhumps123 · 21/08/2021 23:00

*good

Sebbikh · 21/08/2021 23:00

It's ok everyone do it

Littlekittyscupcake · 21/08/2021 23:01

I’d go next week OP. Life is short and it would be a shame to miss out. I probably would turn up early next time and hide at the back though! I will never forget when I was taking an exam a few years ago and someone behind me let off a really loud one. I was absolutely mortified (thought the invigilators might think it was me) and couldn’t stop laughing 😂

Cruiser123 · 21/08/2021 23:02

One of the many reasons why I do yoga with Adriene alone at home in my living room 😂

user1493494961 · 21/08/2021 23:03

Someone did a silent but deadly fart near me in a Yoga class once, it was horrendous. I felt embarrassed in case anyone thought I was the culprit so probably looked very guilty!

Phoenix76 · 21/08/2021 23:05

I bet they were grateful it wasn’t them! I’m pretty certain it wasn’t the first time the yoga teacher has witnessed it, most likely done it himself enough times. The first time you go back, you’ll feel uncomfortable but it won’t be long before the next farther identifies themselves and on it continues. If you’re enjoying it besides that and for the well known health benefits I’d go back, your body may get used to the positions and you’ll stop farting.

oliveroses · 21/08/2021 23:06

@Armychefbethebest

Dangerous territory these exercise classes judging by all the snapping and farting that goes on 🤣🤣🤣 sorry couldnt resist x
Grin

OP, it's just a fart. Who cares? Life is too short. You and everyone else have better things to worry about I'm sure. Don't worry x

Pebbledashery · 21/08/2021 23:06

If you had said you trumped in the library or a lift.. I'd say shame on you.. But as its yoga.. As you are! Isn't it the standard to let rip in yoga??? All those toxins leaving your chakras and whatnot. I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 21/08/2021 23:10

Poor thing! I would feel the same if it was me, but if it wasn’t me would feel terrible if someone didn’t feel able to come back to class. Go back OP, it would be bonkers to let this stop you!

maddening · 21/08/2021 23:36

Happens a lo at Pilates, I have farted and still go. No one gives a shit, they may remember that someone farted but are unlikely to remember who, seriously most people have too much going on in their lives that to fixate on such a non event as another human farting in class. Really think about how much you remember that strangers around you have done in the past month.

FlatulenceFearer · 21/08/2021 23:45

Someone thought this was a troll post Hmm. Seriously? Who trolls about farting at yoga Grin.

The Windeze is an excellent suggestion! Should have thought of that before.

The consensus seems to be that I should give it another go then. The next class is tomorrow but I think I’ll leave it until next week after doing some online classes (just thought of that!) to practice the most dangerous positions first. Hopefully, armed with Windeze, the next session will be more peaceful Grin.

The position was lying on your back with left leg straight down on the mat, right one pulled over to touch that knee, then turning your body towards the left leg as far as you can go. I was frantically clenching all the way through but didn’t trust myself after that so sat the rest of it out Grin.

I went to a daytime yoga class once at random, all older folk, it was like that scene in Blazing Saddles round the campfire. No one batted an eyelid.

I used to go to hot power yoga and that was an assault on the nose from all the sweating (and probably farts). Envy < not envy

lyntheyresexpeople · 21/08/2021 23:54

DONT take a windeze!!! It'll make you fart twenty times more!!! They don't just suck all the air from you the minute you ingest it - it relaxes the colon and helps pass gas throughout the day. Honestly worst advice - you'll regret that one op 😂

FlatulenceFearer · 22/08/2021 00:15

Aha! Thank god you posted Lyn! I’ll leave off the Windeze then Grin. That would have been a disaster. Just seen that charcoal helps, so will try that instead.

People fart in yoga all the time, it's normal.

RacheyCat · 22/08/2021 01:42

A woman who I often see at yoga regularly farts through the whole class. Doesn't bother me at all. No one else raises an eyebrow either, from what I can see.

Much better than the performative yogis (usually men, imo) who make moaning sounds and do special top-volume theatrical breathing.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 22/08/2021 02:03

Exactly! So just wear a pair of leggings with a hole in next time and own it Wink

Slightly off post, but there is a man exactly like that at a yoga class I go to. He stands right in front of the class in the instructor's eye line.

p.s to @FlatulenceFearer
Please go back to class, no-one will remember or care....

Inthetropics · 22/08/2021 02:31

Don't quit! Ehen i was younger and very into sports i once farted at a voley class and was so embarassed that i quit it and every other sport i did. It was a really bad devision that's put me off group sports for decades. Face your embarassement and keep going to yoga!

Zfactorstar · 22/08/2021 02:53

I was trying to get into yoga so I figured a good way to figure out if it was for me was to try at home with videos. Not even 5 minutes in I let out a fart so loud that I'm sure is still imprinted on the walls of my old apartment. Don't know if I trust myself in a class of people after thatBlush

DinosaurDuvet · 22/08/2021 03:10

I farted during a bikini wax once 😬

Catflapkitkat · 22/08/2021 03:31

This stops me doing yoga or pilates - the quiet ones. I could only join a bouncy noisey one where 'join in chorus' could cover my back whilst stretching forward.

Feel for you OP

Catflapkitkat · 22/08/2021 03:34

DinosaurDuvet Haha.

Best friend farted during a smear test and blamed her nerves

Aprilx · 22/08/2021 03:59

I must be in a minority but I have never heard that yoga makes you fart before. It is a long time since I used to go, but it was not my experience,
