Gun control

Following the awful killing last night I am struggling to find why apart from a very few professions anyone in this country needs a gun license.

OP posts:

I’m sat here sobbing about poor baby Sophie. Walking innocently down the road pushing her little dolly in a pram. It puts your stomach in knots when you think about what her poor mummy is suffering. In fact it doesn’t even bare to think about. She’s lost her baby and husband for what someone’s warped twisted sickening evil ways.
Another massive kick in the teeth is none of them will even get justice because he also took his own life. Regardless of his state of mind if he wanted to die that was his decision to but have taken innocent people with him I have no words

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/08/2021 20:18

@AICM

Nobody needs a gun.

But then again nobody needs alcohol. We allow alcohol. Every week woman are raped and beaten
Every week drink drivers hurt and sometimes kill other road users. Everyweek innocent people get beaten up by drunks.

When a shooting happens it gets more publicity than alcohol fueled violence but alcohol fueled violence puts more people in hospitals and cemeteries than legally held guns.

We tolorate all of this because we like a glass of wine.

If we are going ban anything we's better start there.

I’d happily ban alcohol- people can enjoy alcohol though without being an alcoholic, no one can shoot a gun without decimating something. And yes our gun laws being tight is why we don’t have mass killings, imagine how many more lives we’d save with an outright ban!
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/08/2021 20:19

Does anyone know why he had a license at all?

newnortherner111 · 14/08/2021 20:19

Should it be for the police to licence guns? Should it not be that anyone wanting a gun licence has to apply to a court?

Coogee · 14/08/2021 20:26

Yes because motorbikes are more easily available. Motorbikes also get you from a to b- what’s the benefit of a gun in a civilians hands?

Use a car. It’s 50 times safer.

Benefits of owning a gun? Target shooting. It’s an Olympic sport. Pest control. It’s essential.

Saidtoomuch · 14/08/2021 20:27

I find the concept of raising birds just to shoot them quite revolting, you can say this about any animal raised for meat frankly (there's no market for pheasant and the dead birds end up buried in a pit), really? Not on our local shoot - I know our freezer gets full each season! and the people who pay a couple of hundred quid to blast them out of the sky for a day are just weird. try more like £3/400 But it's a big part of rural life and there would undoubtedly be economic consequences if it were to stop. absolutely

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:30

My dad has had a shotgun licence his whole life. He now owns guns inherited from my grandfather and late uncle as well as his own. Why shouldn't he be able to do so? He uses them for leisure. You do know there is a huge industry based on safe and responsible shotgun

Why does he need this?

For leisure... yeah

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/08/2021 20:32

His intent and determination was to cause harm devastation and destruction.

If it hadn’t have been with a gun he’d have made sure he found another way to do it.

xoJellyBean · 14/08/2021 20:33

Piss off with this absolute bull!

Shooting is also a sport, my family have always had guns. For clay shooting specifically. The UK vets each and every person extremely well including a visit from a police officer! Nobody could ever have predicted what happened the other day but DO NOT start this crap!

In that case, give up your car! Many people are killed on our roads, much much more than gun related deaths... 🙃🙃🙃🙃

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:34

If it hadn’t have been with a gun he’d have made sure he found another way to do it

Like how?

You can't manage to go from street to street in 7 minutes killing 6 people with a knife. Unlikely

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:36

In that case, give up your car! Many people are killed on our roads, much much more than gun related deaths

Oh please

No one who has a car accident goes out to decide to kill someone with a car. (unusual)

This was intent with a pump action shotgun
This was intent. With a firearm

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/08/2021 20:36

I never mentioned knives.

He could have stolen/used a vehicle and ran people over, for example.

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:38

But that doesn't fit the dialogue of an Incel does it?

Driving around running people over. No.

xoJellyBean · 14/08/2021 20:42

@Roussette OH PLEASE, there actually have been incidents were an individual has intended to harm with their vehicle. This is the 1st gun related incident in 11 years, just be thankful you don't live in America. It is total crap to come after those who responsibly own a gun and that includes myself.

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:43

Just tell me... why did this man need a gun licence?

Answer me that and I'll go away

AICM · 14/08/2021 20:44

Onlyfools

Every single statement you've made is wrong.

Firstly, clearly some people can't enjoy alcohol without becoming alcoholics, violent or both. These do.people more harm in total the people with legally held firearms.

I shoot a lot. All I have ever decimated in 15 years is pieces of paper.

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:45

And I am pretty knowledgeabe on US and their gun laws.

I read a lot Grin

Coogee · 14/08/2021 20:45

Just tell me... why did this man need a gun licence?

Because he wanted to own a gun.

AICM · 14/08/2021 20:45

He needed a gun licence to park part in a legal hobby.

Go can go away now.

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:47

So what?

He needed a gun licence why??

He needed to own a gun
He went to a shooting range?

Why?

AICM · 14/08/2021 20:47

Err.. maybe you should look up Devon on a map. It isn't where you think it is.

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:48

Go can go away now.

I'm not going anywhere.

I find it utterly pathetic that posters on here can justify this man had a gun licence because 'he wanted one'

Roussette · 14/08/2021 20:49

Not sure if you're talkign to me AiCM. I know Devon really well. I was there 2 weeks ago

xoJellyBean · 14/08/2021 20:50

@Roussette how can we answer that when we don't know him or his situation 🤣🤣🤣 we have no access to his gun licence or application...

Also since you apparently ..cough.. read a lot, have a read at this.

Clearly not when it comes to UK gun laws 🤔🙃
