To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

Shamelessly placemarking for the idiot coming back and getting upset. Grin

Meraas · 31/07/2021 12:16

Lock the dick in!!

PegasusReturns · 31/07/2021 12:17

You really have to move his car then when he comes back and asks for you, whoever answers has to deny ever seeing their car and say "there was a lady who lived here but she died 15 years ago

Love this idea but would settle for locking the gate on him

NeverDropYourMooncup · 31/07/2021 12:19

Oooh, just thought of something else to put on a note.

The number of the nearest cab firm. If it's anything like DP's home village, that gives them roughly 45 minutes to an hour of waiting at the best of times.

takealettermsjones · 31/07/2021 12:19

I'm 100% agreeing with the people saying pile up stuff between his car and the gates!

Practise your stern face and voice for when he comes back all righteous (because he will) - "you've barged your way into MY HOUSE, you rude, entitled piece of work!"

DepressedDD · 31/07/2021 12:21

Please don’t let him out straight away when he returns. I feel sorry for the kids but I’d make him sweat for at least an hour.

kensington09 · 31/07/2021 12:21

Blatantly placemarking here. Ready for the next update!!

melj1213 · 31/07/2021 12:22

The breathtaking arrogance of some people is astounding - your driveway is not a car park, just because you are rural doesn't give people any right to park on your property.

OP I would be taking lots of pictures of the car, and the note the CF left, and then leaving a note of your own "As I told you this is not a car park. I gave you 5 minutes to leave, but you chose not to and since I can't wait around for trespassers all day I have secured my property."

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 31/07/2021 12:22

Honestly anyone who parks the wrong side of gates even without you having told him you were coming back to lock them in 5 minutes is thick as fucking mince and deserves everything he gets....

Hathertonhariden · 31/07/2021 12:23

Shame the forestry can't leave a load of felled trees outside the gate as they couldn't get past due to the car blocking their (legitimate) access

ifonly4 · 31/07/2021 12:23

Another great parking thread. Makes me think we should be prepared if someone parks on our drive.

Seriously though, OP has done the right thing locking the gate - there's clearly valuable property around the back.

When he comes back, obviously you're going to be out/not hear the front door.

LovingLifesHurdles · 31/07/2021 12:24

Can't wait for the update!

HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 12:24

You’ve done a service to the children OP- their barefaced liar of a father has just modelled to them that they can use dishonesty to gain an advantage. They will now see that bite him on the arse and hopefully think twice about following his example.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/07/2021 12:24

@Ughmaybenot

Ah fuck that guy. Live in the countryside too, on a farm with a footpath across one field at the edge, in a very popular tourist area. Guess who has people parking in the fucking farmyard regularly, feeding our horses in their stables any crap they find in their car, or strolling past our kitchen window despite being fields away from the actual fucking footpath..? I feel your pain, people are twats.
Yeah thats why we now have gates and padlocks and the whole shenanigans. Tbf as I say most people are reasonable when you point it put but the pointing it out gets a bit wearing.

I've been told what I need is geese or peacocks as they apparently the most territorial little psychos and then noone would be able get near. Having been attacked by a goose as a child I can guarantee one flying at your face all wings and hisses is terrifying.

Wanders off thinking about locations for ponds...

I am stunned that people like this exist. How do they get to this point?

It's breathtaking, isn't it? Their preferences for the easiest way to live their lives become a random stranger's duty to accommodate. If there really were nowhere else to park, a reasonable person would have sighed, driven home and resigned themselves to having to try again another day.

Where we live, we have regular scrap metal men doing the rounds with their big truck and taking metal junk that people leave out for them at the end of their drives (as well as some things that clearly aren't junk and patently haven't been left for them) - or you can call them if you have something big to get rid of. They tend to make quite liberal 'assumptions' as to what must have been left for them and don't ask questions to ascertain or verify the intention for them to take it. Do you perhaps have similar where you are?

Alternatively, perhaps a sign on the car saying " Car for sale, surplus to requirements, £300 for fast sale - pay the householder and then collect keys from man in the woods." Of course, it would be only fair to take the sign down again once a sale had been secured - and then go out for the rest of the afternoon Grin

Fernando072020 · 31/07/2021 12:27

Woo! Well done for locking the gates, op. You said you were going to do it and for all he knew, you were leaving for the day and had to!
Hopefully this'll teach him not to park on other people's property.

HyacynthBucket · 31/07/2021 12:28

Don't be available OP when he gets back. Let him knock on your door until he is blue in the face. Or go shopping for the rest of the day, not back till late.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/07/2021 12:29

had to park here no other spaces"

Put a note on his car with "Have to say , not my problem"

Maybe he did consider (or even do so) take the bikes out and try for a space where he wouldn't have to open car doors/boot , but car park was full . But it doesn't mean he as a green light to park where he did .

Lock the gates - if he's in the countryside he must respect the Country Code .

lastcall · 31/07/2021 12:29

Well done for locking the gates. I hope you put a note on the twat's car telling him he'd been warned after politely agreeing to give him 5 minutes to unload his car, but your insurance requires you to lock it all down and now you're off for the day.

HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 12:30

PS I love the “me fuming” stick lady on the diagram!

Will he be able to climb the gate when he comes back and finds it locked? Are you concerned at all about him walking or driving into your stable area? Do your dogs bite?

BalloonSlayer · 31/07/2021 12:31

When you see him again you could say: "You said you would move the car after 5 minutes. I said I would lock the gate after five minutes. You were lying but I was not."

dapsnotplimsolls · 31/07/2021 12:31

Saturday parking thread? Aces.

chaosrabbitland · 31/07/2021 12:33

i would have no hestitation in looking him in , parking up the truck and being unavalible for the next how many hours , if it meant i had to sit upstairs in the bedroom so he couldnt start peering through the windows to see if i was home that would be well worth it for me to teach the piss taker a lesson , i would also take great pleasure in hearing him knocking away madly at my door all in a panic because hes now trapped there , but thats just me and im a bit vengefull

LemonFantaGin · 31/07/2021 12:34

I will never get over how entitled some people are!

Waiting impatiently for their return.

Sundancerintherain · 31/07/2021 12:34

I cant abide CF'ers like him . Bravo op.
