To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

You park like a twat I assume.

It's private land, he was told to move!
Definitely. There wouldn’t be anything like the sanctimony if that poster didn’t recognise their own behaviour in Mr Twat.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/07/2021 19:07

You live in a rural area OP, take some responsibility and put up better signage if you want to avoid situations like this in future.

OP explained all that. Don't they teach reading comprehension in school anymore?

KarlUrbansWife · 31/07/2021 19:07

@SachaStark

So it looks like the CF parker has found some Wi-fi then! 😉
I'd say so! 🤣

Have you actually read the thread?! The OP asked the man not to park there and directed him to the car park. She then said she would be locking the gate. He chose to stay there. They have been back TWICE to get things out of the car and not knocked on the door. (The CF even sent his child over the gate rather than being a man and going himself). They have now left and not come back again in hours. They have almost certainly found another way to get home. I don't think the children are worrying how they will get home. And even of they are, it's up to their dad to explain that he did something wrong and grow a pair and knock on the OP's door to apologise. If they were all stood crying on the other side of the gate and the OP was sitting on the other side scoffing her takeaway carvery and dangling the keys from her fingers and singing "nah, nah, nah, nah naaaah!" in between mouthfuls you may have a point. But she isn't. So you don't!

It’s the sheer big headed ness, of him, often folk like him are bullies.
The poster is right, do not be a doormat to such men, prob taught by his chums or dad.
She told him the exact score to start off with, no misleading him.
I hope he think twice to start being entitled again

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/07/2021 19:09

Again, for those who aren’t paying attention - she HAD to lock the gate - leaving it unlocked would invalidate her insurance, if any of her expensive equipment got stolen, @GilbertsLuckySocks.

And the man was WARNED she would be locking the gate in five minutes, and CHOSE not to move his car. If his kids are worried, it is 100% his fault!!

bluebeck · 31/07/2021 19:09

@GilbertsLuckySocks

When are you coming back for the car?

HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 19:09

the CF car isn’t obstructing the Forestry Commission gate

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I think it is, unless the drive where CF is parked is wide enough for other vehicles to pass CF’s car. The forestry track access is further up the drive.

Loubilou09 · 31/07/2021 19:10

This crossed my mind Confused

Kotatsu · 31/07/2021 19:10

If this were some other OP with their leg hanging off, they'd be told to call a taxi. This person who's decided they're entitled to park behind a locked gate, having been warned, can do exactly the same.

Or they could just knock.. you know, like people are told to on other parking threads..

Funny how who's in the wrong changes huh?

DevonTF · 31/07/2021 19:11

GilbertsLuckySocks. Just knock and apologise. She will unlock the gates for you.

MagnoliaBeige · 31/07/2021 19:11

Gotta love the posters who pipe up to defend someone they don’t know, who is clearly in the wrong, whilst changing the details to suit their narrative and gaslighting everyone else on the thread!
@mm8989 not worth a response.

OP wanted to teach the family a lesson and she has. Then sits there watching out of her window when they return whilst his kids are probably scared about if they’ll get home now. Utterly pathetic behaviour.

When he spoke directly to the OP who explained he couldn't park there, said he'd move his car and then chose not to.....?

Would he really have had more respect or made different decisions for a sign? Grin

KarlUrbansWife · 31/07/2021 19:11

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon Genuinely, I'd be logging a call with 101 right about now, asking for advice. Tell them you're concerned it's either been abandoned or that he may come back in the dead of night and cause damage to your property. See what they say.

Gardentiger · 31/07/2021 19:11

I wonder if he'll be so embarrassed that he'll NEVER come back for the car?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 31/07/2021 19:11

You need some new socks Gilbert, the pair you’re wearing today haven’t done you any good on the “not getting caught trespassing” front.

I suggest asking the OP if you can please exit her property, and popping to Tesco on the way home for a multipack of new ones.

AddressLabel · 31/07/2021 19:11

@GilbertsLuckySocks

OP has deliberately locked someone into her driveway, then sat at her window watching them whilst they return, unsure how they’ll get out again. Did you enjoy the worried look on the kids faces, OP?
Give it a fucking rest would you. Have you read anything on here ? OP has to lock the gates for insurance purposes, there are signs stating it’s private property, and he was told this and requested to move as she was locking the gates in 5 mins. He did not and has made no attempt to request to be let out. Any alleged worried looks on childrens faces are all on him, and he has the power to do something about it but is too much of a limp dick to do so.
GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:12

The dad shouldn’t have parked there, despite the polite old woman telling him it’s private land, there’s no signage to back up her claim, so of course he’s going to ignore it.

Polite old woman locks him then sniggers behind her curtain when he returns, unable to get out again.

That’s all the gist of this story.

Couldn't have been much clearer really could it? The situation was created by the CF not the OP.

purplesequins · 31/07/2021 19:13

gilbert you don't happen to be the currently carless driver?

Batsy · 31/07/2021 19:13

@GilbertsLuckySocks

old? The OP is 39.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 31/07/2021 19:13

@GilbertsLuckySocks the OP said she was 40, 40 does not make you an old lady!!

You are talking shite on so many levels

Take responsibility? OP has signs on the boundary of her property! This man has driven through her gates and parked on her private drive way.

OP gave fair warning of this and allowed him to have 5 mins to unpack his car…then promptly buggered off anyway, leaving a cheeky note.

Have you RTFT?

Are you the mans wife or a closet private driveway parker…?

Jeez Gilbert she pointed out the signs. She says so in her OP. They’re on her gates. Which is a pretty sensible place to put them
WobblyLondoner · 31/07/2021 19:14

I think Gilbert is perhaps missing a car and a bit tired from a long day cycling!
