To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

Watching their distress.

They're all probably at home having a good laugh about how they've outwitted the OP.

RandomCatGenerator · 31/07/2021 19:33

Is it not getting dark by now?!
@HaveringWavering The point is, the man should not have parked there, we take the OP’s word for it there’s no signage as she hasn’t actually posted a photo.

To make her point, she mooted the idea online of whether to block him in. Consensus was yes, go for it.

OP the sat at her window watching them when they returned. He could have knocked on her door, or as the OP said, her dogs were too intimidating so perhaps he didn’t want to risk it.

At that point of his return, OP could have come out and let him out of the gate. She didn’t, she ignored him, and carried on watching their distress.
You missed out the bit where OP told the manor was private, then the man lied to OP saying he’d only be 5 minutes, she happily allowed him that time to sort out his kids’ bikes and then move the car elsewhere, then he just fucked off and left the car anyway. Oh, after leaving a flippant note that was not remotely apologetic.

It’s hardly surprising that OP wanted him to have to come and knock on her door is it?

No that isn't the point. He was asked not park and he ignored it. The Op needs the gate shut for her insurance.

All he has to do is ask.

But by all mean keep spouting nonsense. That chip on your shoulder must be quite heavy.

Distress?? Where are you watching this situation from?? You seem to have some inside knowledge on this single parent household.

Just ask the OP to open her gate for you and use the car park next time.

GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:35

@FreezerBird only those of us that have lived rurally and on a farm will know how expensive farm machinery and livestock are. Most people don’t have a clue.

The simple solution here was for OP to open the gate when she saw the man kids had returned, but she didn’t. And they couldn’t knock on her door because she’d let her dogs out. So she continued to watch them.

The man was wrong, and so was OP. Plus, OP gets to go online and attention seek to her heart’s content over the matter.

HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 19:35

“Distress”. FFS. If this is distress you’re not leaving much vocabulary to describe situations that are genuinely distressing.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 31/07/2021 19:36

That's a point op if hes happy to leave his car there could it be something more sinister and hes checking the place out? I might be reading too much into it though.

Shirleyphallus · 31/07/2021 19:36

@LavenderAskew

Brilliant, he is now a lone parent.

I imagine his wife died in a terrible tragic accident too didn't she, this day one year ago But she held on just long enough time whisper to her loving husband on last request:

"Please on this day in one year take our children to for a bike ride. You must, and you must promise me, this is the most important part, please park on private land and avoid, but hook and crock, having to apologies for being so entitled"

I'm mean OP, how COULD you!! Those poor children, their mother's last (and admittedly quite derailed) request. Thier legs must be cycled off them, as well as thier poor dad's too. I mean not only is he a lobe parent he might have a phobia of knocking on door and admitting he is a dick.

This really made me lol Grin
GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:36

For the many on here who seem to think I’m the man in question, I’m quite sure a quick check of my past activity will dispel that for you Grin

The username by the way refers to a snooker player.

HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 19:37

Well she got your attention.

MaybeMaybeNotJ · 31/07/2021 19:37

As if he’s not back yet!

Ninkanink · 31/07/2021 19:37

‘Watching their distress’? For goodness sake don’t be such an utter drama llama.

He could have had his car back anytime. All he had to do was knock, apologise and ask.

ifonly4 · 31/07/2021 19:38

Not only will there be valuable animals (which mean a lot to someone), the OP had a delivery earlier which cost a fair amount, so gate certainly needs locking.

GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:39

@Bigassbeebuzzbuzz I’d say you might be reading too much into it. He’s just out for a bike ride with his kids more likely. Occams Razor.

LemonFantaGin · 31/07/2021 19:39

@GilbertsLuckySocks you OK hun?

Mountainpika · 31/07/2021 19:39

Op locked the car in so no-one could nick it. Keeping it safer than in a car park.

GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:40

@HaveringWavering it’s got the attention of 35 pages worth of comments, this is good forum clickbait.

Abouttoblow · 31/07/2021 19:40

"The gates need to be locked" and "he's not there" have become the new CANCEL THE CHEQUE!!! Grin

LavenderAskew · 31/07/2021 19:40
@LavenderAskew they probably only came there to scatter her ashes. And the door knocking phobia is because that was the cause of death, a novelty door knocker in the shape of the laughing frog fell down and coshed her.
Yes, I fear you are correct.

I imagine that they dressed as frogs too, that's what was in the bags the heroic child scaled the OP's 60ft-get-orf-my-land gate for.

Fernie6491 · 31/07/2021 19:41

Maybe he wasn't that far from home and they've all cycled home for the night!

MotionActivatedDog · 31/07/2021 19:41

OP fwiw I do think it’s possible this man may come back during the night to get his car. Or he may do as last weeks CF Parker did and call the police on you. I would get ahead of him and report the car as abandoned now.

BlackAlys · 31/07/2021 19:41

You've hopefully made this idiot realise that he's a CF so if it were me, I'd leave a note on his windshield saying:

Gate was locked (you were warned) because leaving it open invalidates my insurance. Knock on my door and I'll open the gate. I am
NOT a car park however, so a repeat performance will see you clamped. Release fee will be £100. Kindly, Woman who warned you.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 31/07/2021 19:41

It’s the note “ had to park here, no other spaces”.

Wow! How fucking entitled is that?
If there’s no spaces uou move on, not park in someone’s space. What lesson is that teaching his kids. So rude.
