To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

Been watching this all afternoon, can't believe they're still there!!! But then, someone blocked me on my driveway for 3 days once... Cf! So what's the plan, trap them all night? Note giving them an opening time?!

MontysMinions · 31/07/2021 19:21

Oh god, @GilbertsLuckySocks rides into another thread with 'alternative' views.

Just ignore, all she's going to do is clog up the thread so it fills up before the 'lone parent' comes back!

TheSunShinesBrighter · 31/07/2021 19:22

Or just open the get and let him home.

For the countless time, HE IS NOT THERE.
What don't you understand?
She cannot leave her gate open.
He might not return for hours.

Iloveacurry · 31/07/2021 19:22

Can’t believe they’re not back yet. My kids would be complaining non stop!

GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:22

@SixesAndEights I can’t be. I’m the Dad apparently, and potentially also the OP Hmm

LoverOfAllThingsPurple · 31/07/2021 19:22

Keep at it OP. Hopefully this will teach him not to be such a CF in future!!!

myrtleWilson · 31/07/2021 19:22

@GilbertsLuckySocks.

How do you know the children has "worried faces" - one was shinnying up and over the gate...?

How is nearly 40 "old"?

How is the age of the OP relevant?

Why presume he is a lone parent?

Are you making this up as you go along or do you have a story arc you're following?

MotionActivatedDog · 31/07/2021 19:22

Are they also allowed to have a kip on your sofa if the front door is open?

Grin
Mumdiva99 · 31/07/2021 19:23

Can't believe the car is still there!!!

(Gilbert....bugger off please.)

chaosrabbitland · 31/07/2021 19:24

@GilbertsLuckySocks

OP has deliberately locked someone into her driveway, then sat at her window watching them whilst they return, unsure how they’ll get out again. Did you enjoy the worried look on the kids faces, OP?
the op told the man he could not park there , he chose to ignore it and did anyway , he should have found another place to park up ,but chose to take the piss and stay on her property , its his problem that his kids are worried , he created the situation . i would not have put my child in this predicament and i suspect loads of other wouldnt either , they would have parked somewhere else .

all he has to do is knock on the door ,its not hard is it ? stop trying to guilt trip the op with his kids , hes the one that should be feeling guilty

GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:25

@Mumdiva99 perhaps he lives down the road, and has cycled home with the kids.

It’s not too difficult to believe.

HaveringWavering · 31/07/2021 19:25

@GilbertsLuckySocks you’ve fundamentally misunderstood what a U OK Hun? response is. Here’s a clue- it doesn’t involve giving advice about how to deal with a CF on your drive.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 31/07/2021 19:26

Just place holding to see what happens.

CanIHaveAHolidayPlease · 31/07/2021 19:27

What a cheek!!!
Wouldn't have been so bad if he'd asked and then offered you a tenner for the inconvenience.

SixesAndEights · 31/07/2021 19:27
@mm8989 not worth a response.

OP wanted to teach the family a lesson and she has. Then sits there watching out of her window when they return whilst his kids are probably scared about if they’ll get home now. Utterly pathetic behaviour.

You live in a rural area OP, take some responsibility and put up better signage if you want to avoid situations like this in future.
What like "PRIVATE" which she has on her gate.

Oh no the poor little children, kept out all day by the OP a real baddie, and not their arsehole of a father!

This is hilarious. I wonder if they've found the thread and it's them posting like idiots! Grin

ifonly4 · 31/07/2021 19:27

If DC are so scared, doesn't say much their parent/guardian then, as he got one of them to go and collect essentials from the car around lunchtime.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 31/07/2021 19:27

@Wombat64

Do you put up a sign on your lawn saying private?

Just because it's in the countryside doesn't mean it's open access land.

The sign was on the gate. However as the gate was open the Op told him in person. AND gave him the few minutes he asked for to sort himself out.

If I told you to fuck off out my garden you’d only believe me if there was a sign?

upaladderagain · 31/07/2021 19:29

Gilbert, she would unlock the gate and let him out if he came back and asked her to.
What she can't do is unlock the gate and leave it open indefinitely until he comes back as it will negate the insurance which covers the valuable property which she has behind said gate.
Do try to keep up.

GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 19:29

@HaveringWavering The point is, the man should not have parked there, we take the OP’s word for it there’s no signage as she hasn’t actually posted a photo.

To make her point, she mooted the idea online of whether to block him in. Consensus was yes, go for it.

OP the sat at her window watching them when they returned. He could have knocked on her door, or as the OP said, her dogs were too intimidating so perhaps he didn’t want to risk it.

At that point of his return, OP could have come out and let him out of the gate. She didn’t, she ignored him, and carried on watching their distress.

Rainbowshit · 31/07/2021 19:29

When he comes back eventually, you should say you'll open the gates in 5 mins and then wait an hour at least before opening them.

How can you potentially be the OP when you are railing against the old, decrepit, grey haired OP who is 14 years younger than you according to a PP?

SoupDragon · 31/07/2021 19:31
@Mumdiva99 perhaps he lives down the road, and has cycled home with the kids.

Rather than knocking on the door and apologising?

FreezerBird · 31/07/2021 19:31

I suspect the 'just leave the gate open' crew, as well as not understanding the concept of insurance, also do not have the first idea how expensive farm machinery is, and how common thefts are.

There could easily be hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of gear back there, not to mention the horses and their stuff.

Of course OP can't just leave the gates open. Good grief.
