To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

They've wandered back up the footpath and are now peering down the top end of the drive. I'm not sure they realise it's the same place!!

You absolutely can leave him out there as long as you want. He can put his children in a cab. Hopefully they will learn not to be entitled arseholes like their father.

TheAwfuITruth · 31/07/2021 13:01

@Batsy

i dont think, realistically, you can leave him there for long. I would let him stew a little longer, then go call the dogs in.
She can leave him until he at least asks if he can go though!

For all OP knows he might not want to go anywhere yet

SixesAndEights · 31/07/2021 13:01

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

So currently they are all just standing by my truck, and the dogs are in the garden looking at them like what are you doing? One of the kids tried to climb the gate but that made the dogs bark again so they retreated.
Good dogs!

I'm so glad they came back now and not hours later!

Shameless placemark offering op wine 🍷 and popcorn 🍿

Great diagram btw op

wineandcheeseplease · 31/07/2021 13:01

This is brilliant

PineappleCakes · 31/07/2021 13:01

Well done OP 👏

Make him wait, at least half an hour. And don't answer the first time he knocks, wait at least for the second attempt, he deserves to stew!

TraLaLaLaLaLaLaa · 31/07/2021 13:01

Don't listen to @Batsy Wink
Chants >leave them < >leave them < >leave them

The OP can leave him there as long as she likes! At the very least she can leave him until he comes to ask her nicely to open the gate and let them out.

She warned him he had 5 minutes to leave and he chose not to, this is the consequence of his action.

GojuRyuLover · 31/07/2021 13:02

I like the idea of having a drink so it's impossible to move your car. Or 'being out' and not answering the door.

He knew very well it was private property and chose to trespass anyway. This is 100% his fault and his problem. I wouldn't let him move his car until tomorrow if it was me.

MotionActivatedDog · 31/07/2021 13:03

OP you can leave him there for the same length of time he left his car on your drive.

Absolutely! Enthralled!
ifonly4 · 31/07/2021 13:03

He's more than likely got a phone and they have bikes, so not exactly stranded - let him stew. You don't know he's back, until he knocks on the door.

Me neither.

What always disappoints me about parking threads is how soft the OPs end up being!!!

thenightsky · 31/07/2021 13:05

Leave the dogs to it.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/07/2021 13:05

I'm starting to maybe slightly re-evaluate my earlier comment about breathtaking entitledness, as I wonder if good old fashioned stupidity might also play a part in it. When people do things like this, is it a blatant disregard for other people and their needs or might it be a pure inability to think situations and consequences through more than one little step at a time? Or is it a combination of both?

Batsy · 31/07/2021 13:05

@TheAwfuITruth

"She can leave him until he at least asks if he can go though!"

Thats why i said call the dogs in.. i didn't say anything about unlocking the gate yet Grin

But at least if she calls the dogs in, he might be more inclined to come and knock.

GojuRyuLover · 31/07/2021 13:06

@SixesAndEights Yes I hope OP stays strong! I don't know how some people can be so entitled.

NowWeAreSuckingDieselFella · 31/07/2021 13:06

Ooooh I don't think I've ever seen a "live" parking thread before. I always find them later when everything is resolved!

I have RTFT so apologies if I've missed this info but how many kids does he have with him OP? And roughly what age. Just hoping they are learning a life lesson in not being an entitled twat!! Grin

Belle82 · 31/07/2021 13:06

Absolutely lock him in. How is it any different to a car being clamped.
That or call the police as it’s illegal.

SoupDragon · 31/07/2021 13:07

Not place marking at all ...

BackAwayFatty · 31/07/2021 13:07

Watching with excitement.

Tell him you'll be 5 mins then watch some tv 🤣

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Most people are just thick rather than genuine bastards.
