Had a Tom Cruise film on in the background today as I was packing for holiday. It was Collateral on Netflix. It got me thinking about how amazing he was.

When I was a kid in the 80s he was the biggest movie star in the world. He has an amazing legacy that is somewhat tarnished by his association with Scientology.

I loved Cocktail as a kid. How can a genuine movie star just loose a big chunk of their reputation, was it the couch jumping I wonder….the lack of people around him who tell him the truth? I wonder if he sees his daughter?

He was amazing though, I’m not bu about that 😀

Why yes, being the children of two of the most famous people on the planet, children of two multi millionaires, having two adoptive parents who love them and support them, living fulfilling, productive and happy lives; it's a fate a birth mother must dread happening.
I'd call it a life of brain washing not living a fulfilled productive life with real life connections, losing two mothers.

I wish people would stop calling the two older children adopted. And T & N adoptive. They are their parents, however toxic that relationship may be.

To those that have commented on Kidman not doing more to see her adopted children, and whether Scientology really played a part in keeping them away; would suggest you read accounts from others about Scientology.

Leah Remini who was raised into the Church has spent recent years speaking about her ordeal. She was the one that raised the alarm about the leader's wife who hasn't been seen in public since 2007. Listen to her interviews/podcasts etc - it's truly eye-opening stuff.

pp also mentioned the Louis Theroux doc which was great. If you dare criticise the church of scientology, they go after you in the same way the mafia would. Bunch of horrible, unhinged bullies.

She wants to see them. They don't want to see her. They are grown up children. Not little ones.

I think they are both still embroiled in scientology, and they are not allowed to see her, even if they wanted to. She is a "suppressive person" i.e, a person who doesn't believe what they believe. She cannot engage with, nor believe, the tenets and beliefs of scientology.

If they agree to see her, they will be cast out of their religious order or at least punished. They are brainwashed.

I'm pretty convinced she'd have them come live with her if she could get them away from their prison.

This isn't true actually. The adopted daughter, who now happens to live in Croydon of all places, has in recent years reached out to Nicole and they now have a relationship of sorts.

Perhaps she realised for herself that the Church fed her lies about her mum being a 'suppressive person' based on no fucking evidence.

It must be hard on their birth parents, I'd imagine they hoped the DC would have a good life better than the one before they were adopted.
I agree with this. If I were the biological parent of Conor or Isabella, I might be wondering if they wouldn't have ended up happier if I'd raised them on a shoestring with the help of my Mama.

I friend of mine worked with him when he was filming in London and said he was a great guy, very warm, charming and charismatic. Chatted to everybody and remembered to ask after his sick DS when he had chicken pox.

It’s the Katie Holmes thing and the Scientology thing that put me off him. KH has always seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders, the fact that she had to swoop their child away from him like that and he’s barely seen her since speaks volumes to me.

He’s bloody funny in Rock of Ages though.

My point was Croydon wouldn't be my first choice if daddy was a millionaire but perhaps she wants to make it on her own.

Croydon isn't reflective of the whole of South London. Depends where 'down the road from you' is.

He is a great actor, and has made many great movies, I have quite a few in my dvd collection. I've also enjoyed quite a few of his interviews on things like Graham Norton- he doesn't seem to take himself seriously, engages with the other guests with genuine interest in what they do, seems polite and charming. A lot of people he has worked with have said things like he's bought stuff for crew, remembers everyone's name, he has done charity work and all sorts of good deeds.

I find it quite easy to keep the actor or actress as a person seperate to the work they do - sure they could be an AH but many work places have people who suck but are talented at what they do.

IMO the only good acting he does is on chat shows. He makes (some) people think he's a nice guy.

Bella is very very involved with Scientology as is Connor. She lives close to their HQ.

We only have tabloid rumours to go on about the supposed better relationship between N and B. They are never seen together or mention each other. Neither parent was at her wedding either.

Wasn't it just before the 10 year California divorce law rule of 50/50?

She had distanced herself more and more from his beliefs too so it was a calculated decision on his behalf on advice of the cult.

That's not true. Nicole had an affair and he filed for divorce. A friend of mine worked for them both. (btw she said he was extremely polite) It really is that simple.

I also remember reading that Katie Holmes was selected as a potential girlfriend from a shortlist that included Scarlett Johannson. You need to go through a thorough interview process to be Tom's gf apparently...

I found him quite cringey in that, brilliant role for him but no, definitely not sexy.
