If you've been pinged did you isolate?

FlatteredFool · 23/07/2021 22:26

I've been pinged today for the first time and told to isolate for 5 days. Reading other threads it seems that a lot of people don't have the app or wouldn't isolate if they were pinged.

ChorltonWheelie · 23/07/2021 22:28

Yes I did, last day tomorrow

Catsintheboxroom · 23/07/2021 22:30

Yes . Finish tomorrow. But I work in a school so it would have been irresponsible to go in I felt.

WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 23/07/2021 22:32

Yes. Finished on Tuesday.

sst1234 · 23/07/2021 22:32

I am just surprised anyone is crazy enough to have the app.

hellcatspangle · 23/07/2021 22:33

Not been pinged as I turned the app off weeks ago after all the horror stories. I would obviously isolate if told by T&T.

goose1964 · 23/07/2021 22:33

Don't have the Serco test and trace, then you'll never get pinged.

PrettyBlunt · 23/07/2021 22:35

I deleted the app. I only see my mum and sisters so if they tested positive I'd absolutely isolate.

I'm not isolating if I got pinged from being in a shop when it's a quick dash in and out for things that I couldn't get on my click and collect and I wear a mask in there.

musicalfrog · 23/07/2021 22:36

I did, was grateful of the downtime but then again that was during term time - but sure I'd be so keen now!

Wannabegreenfingers · 23/07/2021 22:39

Yes. Currently isolating until 23.59 on Monday.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/07/2021 22:46

For most it dependa on why were they noot nooted (🐧). different thread ha

My friend got pinged for few hour isolation. She did not isolate. People report notifications due to neighbours being positive and phones connecting through walls (hopes it happens to developers so they atart building proper proper walls lol) etc.

Matilda15 · 23/07/2021 22:51

I did, got the ping last weekend and isolated for the time requested.

For me it was personal responsibility and had I gone out and continued as normal I’d have been at baby groups and wouldn’t have dared risk passing it on.

FlatteredFool · 23/07/2021 22:56

I don't normally venture far either as CEV and it's still advised to be extra careful, avoid the unvaccinated (how??) and avoid busy times. I checked into 2 places last week (not busy) and bingo I get pinged. It was the furthest I've been in 18 months. Typical. I could have done with the isolating being at the start of this week as the school run has been a bitch in this heat. Bloody big hills to get up in 30 degree heat. I'd much rather have been at home. Ah well, I have no excuse now not to get the house tidy and I'll enjoy a couple of days off from the hills. Luckily the dc aren't bothered about having to stay in.

I don't have the app - never have done.

I think it's bonkers people have it and even more bonkers that they listen to it!

sociallydistained · 23/07/2021 23:02

Currently isolating now being pinged this morning for 5 days isolation. Mad I’ve clearly been out and about the last 5 days but hey ho.

Fleetw00d · 23/07/2021 23:02

I got pinged but on the day it said I came into contact with someone I had been sitting outside over 2m from others. I deleted the app and reinstalled and the notification went away so I'm just deleting it now think it's rubbish. I only really see my partner and my other friend who I was with at the time who doesn't have the app.
If I was contacted by t and t I would, and I i had been out and about on public transport or at a restaurant I would have thought fair enough, but I know I wasn't within 2m of someone for 15 mins so just genuinely think it's crap

Dreamstate · 23/07/2021 23:02

No, I booked to go to a restaurant and had to cancel, its only place I have entered my details in as it was mandatory and I got pinged 3hrs later after my original booking time.

Absolutely ridiculous! If I cancelled my booking it should never have pinged me as I clearly wasn't there. This is why its so stupid, I never bothered with the app either because you could go somewhere in the morning and leave, someone goes later who tests positive and you still get pinged even though you were never there at the same time.

No wonder numbers are high its not even accurate. What a farce.

FlatteredFool · 23/07/2021 23:15

Ah I've just read up on this more and:

Contact tracing
When you have contact tracing switched on, your app will use Bluetooth to know when it has come into close contact with other nearby app users. ‘Close contact’ is generally 2 metres for 15 minutes or more. If any of those nearby app users later test positive for coronavirus, you will receive an alert with advice to self-isolate and book a test. The alerts are based on a ‘risk-scoring algorithm’ developed by scientific experts.
Read more about when contact tracing alerts are sentt_.
Venue check-in
When you check into venues using the app and official NHS QR code posters, this data is held on your phone.
If it’s identified that people who were there on the same day have since tested positive for coronavirus, you may get an alert advising you to get a test The venue check-in feature works independently of the contact tracing feature. If you get a venue alert it will not tell you to self-isolate.

So it seems it's due to close contact rather than checking into a venue.

On Saturday I got 6 trains. On Tuesday I got 2 trains. The trains seems the most likely point of contact and lots weren't wearing masks.

How come only 5? I got pinged on Wednesday, halfway through my shift at work and it told me 11. So wfh yesterday and my next set of 6.

Typical though, the first time I'd been to a Costa in over a year before starting work.

I'd feel too guilty not to isolate and/or delete the app, especially if I'd caught it and passed it on to colleagues and members of public (emergency services staff).

warmandtoasty2day · 23/07/2021 23:33

don't have the app and think it's a waste of time tbh although if i was called that would be a different matter. Each to their own.

therocinante · 24/07/2021 00:02

Yep, I'm isolating until Saturday at 11.59. Massive ballache (and my 4 rapid tests in the last week have all been negative, thank god) but I know so many people quite poorly right now and a lot of them have had 2 vaccines so I thought it best not to risk anyone else in case I did develop symptoms. A very good friend is currently in hospital with it - two jabs, 28 years old, does triathlons, literally the peak of health. Scares me a bit, that. Would be gutted to have gone to work or seen my friends and then tested positive and someone have got really ill because I didn't isolate.

SummerBreeze1980 · 24/07/2021 00:04

Yes.

SummerBreeze1980 · 24/07/2021 00:05

@Babysharkdoodoodood - it depends when you were in contact with the positive person as to how long you need to isolate.

entrytohr · 24/07/2021 00:11

You can look to see when it's from. Go to: settings >> other data

That shows you the encounter date which should make it a bit easier to work out if it's valid Smile

uktrippin · 24/07/2021 00:12

Why don't you just say what it is you're wanting to say?

Waiting for a pp to appear saying "aha, I wasn't at the restaurant I booked but still got pinged" and then vaguely copying and pasting how it works to try and tell them they're wrong? Bizarre.

ThatLibraryMiss · 24/07/2021 00:19

‘Close contact’ is generally 2 metres for 15 minutes or more.

I got pinged the other week. There was absolutely no way I'd been within 2m of someone else for a whole minute, let along 15, on the relevant day or the days either side. I ignored it and deleted the app.
