If you've been pinged did you isolate?

I've been pinged today for the first time and told to isolate for 5 days. Reading other threads it seems that a lot of people don't have the app or wouldn't isolate if they were pinged.

"Dreamstate

No, I booked to go to a restaurant and had to cancel, its only place I have entered my details in as it was mandatory and I got pinged 3hrs later after my original booking time"
It would not.have pinged for that, it needs a positive case linked to a person whose phone you were near to be tested positive. So if it was attached to a person at the restaurant, considering that they would have had to have a pcr test which takes.24 hours to come back, how can they be linked to your booking?

idontlikealdi · 24/07/2021 00:21

The app isn't fit for purpose. I've never had it.if I got a call I would annuities isolate, I can't understand why anyone would have the app if they're going to ignore it anyway.

maddening · 24/07/2021 00:22

And only ping.3 hours after

Saoirse82 · 24/07/2021 00:36

I would, my conscience wouldn't let me go to places where I thought there may be vulnerable people. I'd still walk the dog though when its quiet.

musicalfrog · 24/07/2021 05:25

If it only pings you from contact tracing how come I got pinged from a venue check in (I don't use Bluetooth)?

BobMortimersPetOwl · 24/07/2021 05:46

I haven't been pinged, but my friend tested positive the day after we'd been out together so I isolated.

I think the shitstorm around Boris not isolating has been the final nail in the coffin for an awful lot of people. Similarly all the people who entered the country with sponsors during the Euros who were allowed to skip isolation.

ZoomOnToast · 24/07/2021 05:53

I self isolated when I was pinged. I only had to isolate for 4 days, it was pretty miserable.

I reckon I got pinged from taking a bus.

Pingued · 24/07/2021 06:23

I did. There's no point having the app if you choose to ignore it when it does what you downloaded it for.

Faevern · 24/07/2021 06:28

The app is your choice if your not going to self isolate with it then delete it. Confused

It’s not fit for purpose but is very handy for people who get paid while self isolating to have paid time off over and over again.

And it makes the governments friends rich.

Dreamstate · 24/07/2021 07:13

Well I had to enter in my contact details online on the booking form. I have never done this ever before, yet I got a text message informing me. Why would I get a message if I have never had the app or entered my details anywhere else but that one booking.

Dreamstate · 24/07/2021 07:16

Here is the message sent to me at 3pm and my booking i cancelled was at 12 noon.

If you've been pinged did you isolate?
GraduallyWatermelon · 24/07/2021 07:25

@ThatLibraryMiss

‘Close contact’ is generally 2 metres for 15 minutes or more.

I got pinged the other week. There was absolutely no way I'd been within 2m of someone else for a whole minute, let along 15, on the relevant day or the days either side. I ignored it and deleted the app.

It's 2m for more than 15 mins or 1m for more than a minute
Oldpeoplesprinting · 24/07/2021 07:26

Another one here who thinks it’s madness. I also don’t get paid if I don’t work, so the idea of sitting indoors & not earning for 10 days on the off-chance I might have picked up a virus doesn't appeal (unless I was actually ill of course, but anecdotally I don’t know anyone who was actually positive after being pinged)

Imnothereforthedrama · 24/07/2021 07:46

Well based on that you’ve been out and about yes .

Biker47 · 24/07/2021 07:50

Have never been "pinged", wouldn't isolate if I was, but I deleted the app.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 24/07/2021 07:52

No. Not even when dd and dh had covid. I applied to be part of the dcts study thing and if you have a negative lft on a daily basis, you can leave the house.

If I got pinged, I would do this again

LEMtheoriginal · 24/07/2021 07:55

The company i work for have insisted we all turn the app off.

Whatafustercluck · 24/07/2021 08:05

I got pinged and the only people I have been in 2m contact with for 15 mins is family and close friends, none of whom have been tested - let alone tested positive. A possibility is that I've left my phone in a locker when swimming next to someone else's locker. I've not used public transport and haven't frequented crowded indoor places.

KikaWhite · 24/07/2021 08:16

I never had the app on my phone and yesterday got text and email saying I have to self isolate, how can this happen??? And I don't know anyone who has covid. Should I really self isolate?

FangsForTheMemory · 24/07/2021 08:17

Yep.

QueenofLouisiana · 24/07/2021 08:25

I’m isolating at the moment from a ping, I finish on Tuesday.
No idea where I was pinged. The people I spent the day with haven’t been pinged. The only place I went to alone was the supermarket and I wasn’t there for 15 minutes so certainly not near one person for that length of time.

Wannabegreenfingers · 24/07/2021 08:25

@KikaWhite yes you absolutely have to. If you have been contacted then someone has given your details. It's enforceable by law.

IamMaz · 24/07/2021 08:31

I was pinged on my son's 29th birthday and we had a lovely restaurant booked for us and his girlfriend that evening!!! Yes I did isolate [6 days] and we had the meal a week later.

sst1234 · 24/07/2021 08:39

Why on earth would you rely on anything a dodgy app tells you. The technology doesn’t work, it’s been proven, yet people are falling over themselves to have it on their phone and then listen to it. There’s only one conclusion from that - that they want to isolate. The madnesss in the last year and a bit means people actually like isolating.

icedcoffees · 24/07/2021 08:39

That's because someone has named you as a close contact so you must isolate unfortunately.

It's legally enforceable and they can check on you Sad
