If you've been pinged did you isolate?

I've been pinged today for the first time and told to isolate for 5 days. Reading other threads it seems that a lot of people don't have the app or wouldn't isolate if they were pinged.

@LEMtheoriginal

The company i work for have insisted we all turn the app off.
Makes total sense. Would you rely on a broken clock to tell you the time? Same thing here really.
Yafilthyanimal · 24/07/2021 08:41

@kikawhite Someone will have given your details as a close contact. That is the only other way NHS will have your details.

Do you know anyone with Covid?

tothelakes · 24/07/2021 08:42

Yes, I've been pinged and am isolating. As are the other people I was with.
I'm doing it because it's the responsible thing to do, particularly as I'm a frontline worker who has contact with numerous people a day.

I've had lots of 'helpful' advice about not having to isolate.

I'm actually worried about what happens post 16 August. If people are pinged or contacted by test and trace, will they tell anyone? Will they give friends and family the choice to keep away? I bet many won't which is hugely selfish.

Yafilthyanimal · 24/07/2021 08:42

@FrankButchersDickieBow

SO irresponsible.

tothelakes · 24/07/2021 08:43

@KikaWhite

I never had the app on my phone and yesterday got text and email saying I have to self isolate, how can this happen??? And I don't know anyone who has covid. Should I really self isolate?
I'm honestly fucking staggered that after this long you are completely clueless about how this works!
Yafilthyanimal · 24/07/2021 08:44

I had to isolate for 9 days recently.

Someone at work had covid. I don't have the app and NHS did not contact me but morally I knew I had to!

It's not irresponsible. It's part of a study. I assume the one which paved path for certain workers doing this rather than isolating and shutting businesses down

Oysterbabe · 24/07/2021 08:51

I got pinged a couple of weeks ago and ignored it. I've turned off contact tracing now.

Did you get tested and find that you caught it? If not, then it makes no sense. If you just isolated on the off chance that you may have and not try and find out, then there’s nothing moral about it. It’s just strange. Or maybe as other have said, it because people see it as a paid break.
Hillary17 · 24/07/2021 08:57

Sort of - I cancelled a big weekend away with friends and made an effort to stay home, ordered shopping online etc. But I knew I hadn’t left the house to be at risk in the first place so honestly couldn’t figure out why I’d been pinged. Still went for a couple of walks so I didn’t go insane.

I am so sorry, I did misread it.

My apologies Smile

I sat opposite the man who tested positive.
Our H&S department said anyone that spent 15 minutes within 2 metres of this person, needed to isolate.

People that have got the app were pinged when he got his positive result. There were around 8 of us isolating, and the mans family.

He did give our details to T&T but not our names details(so completely useless!)

I did a lateral flow test every day which was negative.

Monkey2001 · 24/07/2021 09:00

@entrytohr

You can look to see when it's from. Go to: settings >> other data

That shows you the encounter date which should make it a bit easier to work out if it's valid Smile

That is interesting, is that on an iphone or Android? DS2 was pinged and did a light version of isolation - off school, not seeing friends other than GF and they did LFTs. We did not feel that full house arrest in bedroom was justified as we did not know when or where the contact was, could have been on a bus where all were in masks or in gym locker. It seems to me that if you use public transport at the moment you could spend your life isolating.

DS1 spent an evening with a friend who tested positive a couple of days later and did full isolation, meals delivered to bedroom door, no bathroom sharing or shared use of communal areas of house. In that case we knew there was a genuine risk.

Yafilthyanimal · 24/07/2021 09:01

Also...I had to work from home!!

No paid break for me!!!

Yafilthyanimal · 24/07/2021 09:02

It was a bloody inconvenience but if there was a chance I had caught it from him, what choice did I have?

Shelovesamystery · 24/07/2021 09:11

How on earth can people afford to isolate at the drop of a hat? If I told my boss I'd been pinged by the app and needed to isolate he'd laugh in my face. We've been told to delete the app and that, as its not legally enforceable, if we choose to isolate from an app notification then it will go down as unauthorised and we won't be paid a penny. We only get ssp if we legally have to isolate anyway so we are all just crossing our fingers.

DeathByWalkies · 24/07/2021 09:13

I don't have the app, and never had, because I can't afford to shut down my business for 10 days with zero income and zero help.

I've got rent to pay and mouths to feed, and that comes first.

FlatteredFool · 24/07/2021 09:20

Just to clarify: I am CEV so don't tend to go anywhere unless necessary like taking ds to school, buying food top ups. Last weekend was the first time we'd ventured out and about and on busy trains where hardly anyone was wearing a mask on the way there. We left at the crack of dawn to try and avoid busy trains. I don't want to isolate and don't currently work so it makes little difference to me being pinged. I was just curious after reading of so many who ignore a ping if anyone actually isolates. Due to not checking into places previously as I'd not been anywhere I hadn't read up on how the app contact tracing works.

@Yafilthyanimal no problem. We all misread sometimes 😁

Yes.

I was visiting elderly mum after not being able to travel to see her for many months (seven hours away) with my daughter. We stopped en route to see a relative for a chat/coffee and a few days later I got a phone call from her to say someone else who was there (all sitting outside, never inside) had been tested positive for covid.

We isolated and had to stay at mum's an extra 4 days. Her neighbour did a shop for us. It was no hardship to stay at mum's and I got a lot of gardening/weeding done Grin.

I future I will do daily tests (I have a supply) and not isolate, as essential workers have to (I'm in education and in Scotland so we are returning to school very soon).

Fairyliz · 24/07/2021 09:31

The only people I know who are isolating are those who work for the council and get paid whilst they are off.
They’ve had a good time whilst the weather has been hot Hmm

MarchXX · 24/07/2021 09:33

Can I just add, @FlatteredFool, I had a supply of tests and we ordered more and tested daily. No covid from either of us, thankfully.

KikaWhite · 24/07/2021 09:41

@Yafilthyanimal no I don't know anyone with covid.

BillyIsMyBunny · 24/07/2021 09:57

If I had the app and got ‘pinged’ I would isolate because I would feel anxious and guilty about the risk of passing it on if I ignored it knowingly. I haven’t downloaded the app because I know a lot of the notifications aren’t accurate but that I wouldn’t be able to ignore it anyway, same with the LFD tests I know several people who’ve had false positives but have had to isolate whilst waiting for their PCR tests. When it comes to covid for me ignorance is bliss, unless I have symptoms I’m not testing and unless I’m contacted by Track & Trace due to confirmed close contact I don’t wish to isolate.

HappyDays40 · 24/07/2021 10:38

Haven't got the app after I was pinged when my next door neighbour who I never spoke to got COVID. I had a terraced house and my bed shared a wall with his. Our phones had been in proximity to eachother through the thin wall. None of us had been out of the house. It was an ice breaker to say the least but I lost faith and deleted it.
