Genuinely interested in what people think of him and his presidency thus far. It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Trump was considered lower than a worm’s privates on Mumsnet but there seems to be little or no excitement about JB, is he really that meh?

@mathanxiety

2) critical of Biden doesn't equal right wing

Criticism of Biden's policies isn't what is happening on this thread.

Parroting the right wing trope about senility is evidence of

  1. lack of critical thinking,
  2. familiarity with right wing sites, and
  3. right wing tendencies.
It’s a sad state of affairs when you aren’t allowed to question a president at all for fear of being called right wing.

It’s such a lazy shut down of the conversation. It also doesn’t address the concerns and it won’t convince many people.

I expect more from world leaders. I expect them to be able to interact with girls and women without those girls and women wincing. I expect them to be able to finish a sentence. You don’t. You simply want them to be wearing the right colour rosette. That’s fine.

Well, it's been pointed out to you that there are many sites debunking the creepy with women/girls thing - you just refuse to look for them because you prefer to believe the slurs.

Some of us like a president who provides detailed and lengthy responses, and we view using notes as a grown up thing to do. Whereas you seem to prefer a president who shoots out snappy soundbites.

For me the rejoining of the climate change accords, the investigation into managing SCOTUS, the infrastructure plans, the ending of the XL pipeline and the reversing of the global gag rule are more important. Substance, not style. Is Biden perfect? No. Would I rather have seen a younger, more dynamic Democrat in the White House? Yes. But that time will hopefully come. For now this is good enough. Pragmatism matters.

I’ve been willing to look at the videos you claim to have seen. You refuse to link them.

It’s not a good enough argument to say “you’re wrong. I’m right. It’s your job to prove it”. This is not how you change minds.

I’m not a Trump supporter. At no point have I praised Trump. This is also not how you change minds. It’s the intellectual equivalent of “I know you are. You said you are so what am I”. It just convinces people further that you don’t care what a Democrat president does so long as he (always a he) is wearing a blue cap.

I don’t buy into these pathetic tribal politics and I won’t be bullied into believing something just because you start calling names.

pointythings · 30/07/2021 08:09

But you haven't been willing, because you want us to do your work for you. I've Googled the creepy videos and I've Googled the debunking sides and made my choices. You want to be spoonfed. That's lazy. I'm also very wary of people who only focus on the cognitive/creepy aspects and don't address policy at all. Your entire focus is on the perception of Joe Biden, not on his policies.

Tldr: believe me bruh
YouSetTheTone · 30/07/2021 08:23

Joe Biden’s policies indicate that he’s deeply misogynist. He doesn’t care about women and girls and their dignity, privacy and safety in single sex spaces or sports.
If I was an American I wouldn’t vote for him and as a foreigner viewing his policies I don’t respect him.

Theluggage15 · 30/07/2021 08:29

I dislike Biden’s attitude to women and I think he’s showing signs of mental decline/senility. People are only persisting in saying he’s great because he came after Trump. If he’d come after any other presidents I’m sure the press would be very different. Is ‘he’s not Trump’ going to carry on for 4 years?!

Throwing out rubbish about right wingers and bots is extremely silly.

DetMcNulty · 30/07/2021 08:38

Have you read his family plan? It would be transformational for many working class women.

I have a pet pig that can fly. It’s up to you to research this and prove me wrong…
AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 30/07/2021 10:22

Oh and I swear I have videos of my pig but “I’m not doing your job for you”

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 30/07/2021 10:26

I wish my dissertations had been so easy to write…

“It’s clearly evident that Xxxxxx. Maker, it is now your job to source my references to back my point”

But if he gets his way then women as a class will no longer exist in the US.

Bingo.

Would be Republican across the board for me. I'd be so fucking upset but wouldn't think twice about it.

toconclude · 30/07/2021 12:16

@Cazzovuoi

He’s helped erase women’s sports in the US and puts men’s feelings above the safety of women and girls.

Tells me all I need to know Angry

You seriously believe that that outweighs everything? Transphobes' priorities really are out of all bloody whack. You would have preferred Trump just because of this? Christ.
toconclude · 30/07/2021 12:18

@NannyAndJohn
You'd vote Republican? Seriously? There's only one word for that attitude: evil.

NannyAndJohn · 30/07/2021 12:22

Trump and Biden are pretty much two sides of the same coin. Except one is openly misogynistic and the other one is equally so but tries to hide it.

Sometimes the out and out misogynist is actually the safer bet against the closet misogynist. And for all Trump hates women, he never planned to erase us from existence.

Who else could I vote for? It's not like over here where there are a couple of minor GC parties that you can put your vote behind.

It's one or the other - a shit party that doesn't know what a woman is or a shit party that does.

YouSetTheTone · 30/07/2021 15:49

‘You seriously believe that that outweighs everything?

Why would I vote for a politician who doesn’t respect the rights of half the world’s population? If a politician can’t define me as an adult human female then how does he (or she) advocate for me in any way?
This attitude (of Biden’s) would impact my life from birth to education, to sport, to safety in single sex spaces, to health care, to employment rights, to women only prizes/ scholarships/ bursaries, to pensions to maternity rights. Everything.
