AIBU to be upset at this disappointment

For the past 18 months I have done as I have been told: stayed in, kept my distance, not seen my Mum or grandchildren, not holidayed, had the jabs and downloaded the app.
When it looked like the easing of restrictions on 19th July was going to happen my DH and I decided to treat ourselves and booked good (I.e expensive) theatre tickets and lunch in a nice hotel in a nearby city. On Monday I booked and paid for the train tickets.
On Wednesday I get pinged and told to self isolate until midnight on Saturday. I calculated that my contact day was last Thursday and what did I do last Thursday? I popped into Tesco. I don't think I was in the shop for 15 minutes - never mind near someone for 15 minutes. Otherwise I have been nowhere and done nothing. 🤢
I have taken a PCR test and am waiting for the results but 3 lateral flow tests have proved negative. I am so upset.
I know people have much worse problems so AIBU for being so upset that I can't go.

Just ignore the ping 🤷🏻
You tested, you were careful, you just passed someone in a shop.

StayAGhost · 23/07/2021 12:31

Delete the app
Get on with your life

lughnasadh · 23/07/2021 12:31

Just go.

edwinbear · 23/07/2021 12:32

You can go if you've been pinged by the app though. It's only mandatory if test and trace call you.

Stompythedinosaur · 23/07/2021 12:32

It is disappointing, I think a lot of us have had similar disappointments during the pandemic. But it is good you are isolating and not risking passing covid on - you could be saving someone's life.

Soubriquet · 23/07/2021 12:32

Delete the app and go

AryaStarkWolf · 23/07/2021 12:33

Go bloody hell

SnarkyBag · 23/07/2021 12:35

Given you’re not legally obligated to have the app I’d delete and ignore. Unless I was notified of a close contact through work or a social situation then no way I’d isolate under these circumstances.

Considering there will now be millions workers doing exactly what op did Ping test test test
SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/07/2021 12:35

Clicked too early

I think it's absolutely ok for op to go

Notimeforaname · 23/07/2021 12:35

Jesus. Just go !!!!

Babyshadows · 23/07/2021 12:35

I had this after a trip to shopping center. I'd kept mask on whole time, sanitised loads and kept 2m distance. I ignored the ping and carried on. I'd go.

1234512345Meh · 23/07/2021 12:35

What day are tickets for? If you’ve been as careful as you say you’ve been and had a negative PCR, I’d go :)

Annoyedandirritated · 23/07/2021 12:39

Just go, it’s ridiculous all this hand wringing about the stupid app that’s not even fit for purpose

RollaCola84 · 23/07/2021 12:41

Ignore it and go, app isn't legally binding and you've done tests which are a far more accurate measure of whether you've got Covid then information from a sketchy app.

N4ish · 23/07/2021 12:42

Honestly just go.

SquishySquirmy · 23/07/2021 12:43

If you had been contacted by track and trace, I would say 100% isolate.

However being pinged by the app?
When you don't even think you were in the shop for 15 minutes.... ?

I am fairly sceptical about how accurate the app is, and its not legally required that you isolate when pinged by the app.

If you've been super careful, and you have had negative LFTs then I think you represent a lower risk than most.

Tonkerbea · 23/07/2021 12:44

I try really hard to do the right thing re Covid, and I would still go. If you're sure it's just from the brief supermarket visit, thousands don't have the app and would have similar exposures without knowing. Keep up the lateral flows and I'd wear a mask in the theatre.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 23/07/2021 12:44

Delete app.
Live life..
Imo you have more than done your bit..

Paddling654 · 23/07/2021 12:45

I'm so sorry.

Studies have shown that walking past someone in a shop is enough opportunity for the Delta variant to spread so unfortunately the ping should be observed. But how disappointing.

Jailbreak42 · 23/07/2021 12:46

This.

Some of us have never had the app and managed to avoid covid for 18 months.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/07/2021 12:46

When are you due to go?

TheVampiresWife · 23/07/2021 12:46

The app is not legally binding - if you've tested negative, go. Have a lovely time OP!

LettyLoman · 23/07/2021 12:46

Go to the theatre. Enjoy.

WoodPell · 23/07/2021 12:49

I've disabled my app. I've been double jabbed since early June and I am not staying trapped at home just because it's before an arbitrary date in August.
