AIBU to be upset at this disappointment

For the past 18 months I have done as I have been told: stayed in, kept my distance, not seen my Mum or grandchildren, not holidayed, had the jabs and downloaded the app.
When it looked like the easing of restrictions on 19th July was going to happen my DH and I decided to treat ourselves and booked good (I.e expensive) theatre tickets and lunch in a nice hotel in a nearby city. On Monday I booked and paid for the train tickets.
On Wednesday I get pinged and told to self isolate until midnight on Saturday. I calculated that my contact day was last Thursday and what did I do last Thursday? I popped into Tesco. I don't think I was in the shop for 15 minutes - never mind near someone for 15 minutes. Otherwise I have been nowhere and done nothing. 🤢
I have taken a PCR test and am waiting for the results but 3 lateral flow tests have proved negative. I am so upset.
I know people have much worse problems so AIBU for being so upset that I can't go.

Just delete the app and go - why wouldn't you?!

Applesonthelawn · 23/07/2021 14:26

I never even downloaded the app, I am super careful but just don't expect that to conceptually ever work, so didn't. Do what you can within reason, take a test etc., then just go. Personal responsibility is how we going to get through this.

EgSk · 23/07/2021 14:31

Ignore the app ! Go, enjoy yourself .

I turned the track and trace off on my app . Like you I have followed all the rules and I’m double jabbed . I have a flight coming up to see my parents and sisters who I haven’t seen in 18 months .I don’t want to be pinged so I turned it off .

I disagree with everyone and that's with us being in the exact same situation. OH was pinged three days ago and we've canceled our weekend away, celebrating my late birthday, the first time away since the first wave, so I totally understand.

We also can't really thing where he got done, but he's had the app from the start and it's the first time it's happened, so in all likelihood, he has been in close contact with someone diagnosed with it. He and I are double jabbed, but we just don't know what the risks are, all we know if that this IS exactly how covid is being spread. Neither he nor I care to know that we put anyone at risk of catching, someone who could die. Of all the 86 or so people who died yesterday, how many caught covid from someone who thought, you know what, I know I was in close contact with a covid positive, but my fun is more important and the life of someone else.

We'll reschedule because it's just not worth it. We wouldn't enjoy ourself knowing he is potentially infecting many people. When you don't have a choice, it's one thing, but purely for the sake of entertainment, it's just plain selfishness.

Delete the App.

chunderwunder · 23/07/2021 14:48

There's growing evidence that daily LFTs are just as effective at minimising transmission as isolating.

It is not selfish to test yourself daily as an alternative to isolating. It's just as effective at reducing the chance of ongoing transmission.

I've never had the app!

Moonwhite · 23/07/2021 14:58

You were really considering not going?! Delete the hyper-sensitive app. Have a great time.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 23/07/2021 14:59

If this happened 10 years ago, there would be no app. What would they have done then?

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 23/07/2021 15:00

Yabu for having the app

Wine
MotherOfDemons · 23/07/2021 15:00

OP I got pinged because my neighbour sat on their couch up against our party wall. My OH didn't who lives in the same house. We hadn't been out in over a week and the date was smack in the middle.

Delete it. The app is shit. Just test and go!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/07/2021 15:02

I am still bit surprised how many people are happily having location and bluetooth on ALL the time.
I am a tin hat case😂

wjg65ka · 23/07/2021 15:03

Delete the app and go xx

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/07/2021 15:04

I've never had the app, it sounds ridiculous.

CharlotteRose90 · 23/07/2021 15:05

Nope I would go. I don’t use the app and I haven’t caught covid. As long as you’ve tested etc I would go.

BountyIsUnderrated · 23/07/2021 15:08

I've never had that app as I'm nhs and work in a hospital, never caught covid.
I think this whole pinging business for walking past someone is ridiculous. Go on your holiday (unless you get contacted by test and trace you're fine).

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 23/07/2021 15:09

Delete the app, move on, enjoy your life.

Meruem · 23/07/2021 15:12

I’ve never had the app. At first it was because I was never going anywhere. Then I just didn’t bother. I absolutely would go ahead with your plans. Different if the tests said positive but they don’t. Go and have a great time!

TableFlowerss · 23/07/2021 15:12

Delete the app! It’s not compulsory to have it.

I find it bizzare when people moan about it, yet they’ve actively downloaded it…. Hmm

What do do people expect going to happen.

toolazytothinkofausername · 23/07/2021 15:13

Go go go!!!

TalkingOutYerArse · 23/07/2021 15:19

Yay! Have a wonderful time.

TobyLicious · 23/07/2021 15:19

Delete the App, its not compulsory, go on your well deserved trip.
I work in a hospital, we were never allowed to have the app on while at work. I deleted it weeks ago. I test twice a week, have never had a positive test. Also had PCR tests at work as a 'trial'
People are being pinged through brick walls, it's a complete farce.
@vivainsomnia why don't you do PCR tests then go and enjoy your holiday?!
