AIBU to be upset at this disappointment

For the past 18 months I have done as I have been told: stayed in, kept my distance, not seen my Mum or grandchildren, not holidayed, had the jabs and downloaded the app.
When it looked like the easing of restrictions on 19th July was going to happen my DH and I decided to treat ourselves and booked good (I.e expensive) theatre tickets and lunch in a nice hotel in a nearby city. On Monday I booked and paid for the train tickets.
On Wednesday I get pinged and told to self isolate until midnight on Saturday. I calculated that my contact day was last Thursday and what did I do last Thursday? I popped into Tesco. I don't think I was in the shop for 15 minutes - never mind near someone for 15 minutes. Otherwise I have been nowhere and done nothing. 🤢
I have taken a PCR test and am waiting for the results but 3 lateral flow tests have proved negative. I am so upset.
I know people have much worse problems so AIBU for being so upset that I can't go.

As someone who is no doubt propagating the ongoing assault on everyone's everyday freedoms I think you should now isolate. Just because it is inconvenient for you doesn't mean you get to choose which rules to follow. Just like the rest of us who have had to give up things we enjoy for the past year to appease the afraid. This is what it's all about.

Daisyhoney · 23/07/2021 12:53

This is why I haven't downloaded the app - all those saying to isolate, just ignore them and go have a good time. The app has never been compulsory so you don't have to pay it any attention.

PrettyBlunt · 23/07/2021 12:54

If I had close contact with someone like family or a friend then I'd isolate. But a fucking shop. Get to fuck.

I would go to. Delete the app or turn the alerts off.

Orangedots · 23/07/2021 12:59

You can go! Just delete the app and carry on as normal!

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 23/07/2021 13:00

I’m fairly cautious but in those circs I would do daily lateral flow tests and go.

Some people doesn’t even have the app.

Herecomesthesun70 · 23/07/2021 13:01

I'd definitely just go. The app is a load of shite. Not compulsory or accurate.
Delete it or turn off location

christinarossetti19 · 23/07/2021 13:03

If the PCR test is negative, then go.

The app isn't particularly accurate, the PCR test is.

It sounds 99.9999% likely that it will be negative.

Enjoy your lunch and theatre trip.

Sparkletastic · 23/07/2021 13:08

If you are double vaccinated, symptom free and take a negative LFT then absolutely go and enjoy your outing.

Lookingforadvice123 · 23/07/2021 13:10

You would be unreasonable to miss your day out. As pp have said, many people have never had the app and managed to not have COVID. I know many people who've been pinged for alleged contact on days they haven't left the house! It's obviously flawed.

Staffy1 · 23/07/2021 13:12

Why do people even have this app? It’s not compulsory and not everyone has it.

Meatshake · 23/07/2021 13:12

Use your common sense on this one, take tests before you go.

Might as well have 5 mins of fun before the next lockdown in October anyway 👍

ShortBacknSides · 23/07/2021 13:13

The app pinging you isn't legally binding. It's run by SERCO & overseen by a Tory crony Dido Harding. I read all this & decided not to download the app onto my phone.

I WFH, wear a mask, test twice weekly, don't mix inside with people outside my household, and socially distance.

If this government had put in place a proper testing & tracking system I might have more respect for the app, but in the circumstances? Meh.

StormingNotNorming · 23/07/2021 13:14

Another one saying delete the app and get on with your plans. If you are called, isolate but don't let that crappy bit of software ruin your night out.

That app has been the biggest waste of money - it is poorly developed, poorly excuted and fundamentally useless. You might as well randomly select 10% of the population and send them a text message to isolate. You'd probably get better results.

Dodeee · 23/07/2021 13:15

Ignore the app!

RunnerDown · 23/07/2021 13:16

I would go if I had a negative pcr but not otherwise.p If I did have COVID why would I go to an indoor avenue where I would be likely to cause many other cases. The current attitude is just causing this to go on and on. Not getting to the theatre is disappointing but not the end of the world.

pinkcircustop · 23/07/2021 13:17

Just go.

Shamoo · 23/07/2021 13:17

I have been very observant of all of the rules through Covid. I got pinged last week. The only possible place it could have been from was an event I was at with a friend. She was sitting next to me the whole time and did not get pinged. The app is useless. Your tests will tell you far more than the app will. If they continue to be negative, go.

I tested for the period and was negative every time, so whilst I did generally stay in I did run a couple of errands that really needed to be done.

Eilatan2018 · 23/07/2021 13:19

Oh definitely go! Not everyone has the app.. I certainly don't! I work at the hospital and we are told to turn it off then on as we leave which is just ridiculous.

If you had a mask on and were careful, not sure how walking past someone in a supermarket can be a problem!

AgathaAllAlong · 23/07/2021 13:19

Agree!!! If you have tested negative, absoluetly go! And delete that app! Wear a mask on train and in the theatre, don't sneeze on anyone, wash hands regularly. Everyone in that theatre knows that there is a chance they are sitting next to someone who is asymptomatic and might have the virus. It's just part of living in our times. If you were in a shop for a short amount of time and know that you didn't have close contact with anyone, then don't give it another second of thought.

Ugzbugz · 23/07/2021 13:19

If you didnt Have the app you would never know, I thought the blue tooth only connected after a certain amount of time.

If you can catch it walking past someone in a supermarket with a mask on why is anyone wearing a mask?

Delete the stupid app and go.

tallduckandhandsome · 23/07/2021 13:20

I don’t even have the app

LyndaSnellsSniff · 23/07/2021 13:22

Absolutely just go. I’m silently wondering whether so many people are currently being “pinged” because restrictions have lifted and the NHS Covid app is just firing out random isolation alerts to thousands of users regardless of proximity etc: semi-lockdown by stealth.

Never been a foil hat wearer before now!

GreenClock · 23/07/2021 13:22

Let the result of the test decide this for you, OP.
