… to ask why Giles Coren hasn’t been cancelled yet?

The vile Dawn Foster tweets ffs. But he seems Teflon coated. He will never be cancelled. Three fucking columns a week … a pissing radio show, albeit on Times Radio, which surely no one listens to. I would love to be proved wrong. Absolutely love to be.

Interesting that on a thread about free speech my completely inoffensive post has been deleted.

@Bryonyshcmyony

I think of her as a columnist and beauty writer. I'll be sure to read all your useful links and comments though
Nice deflection.

No I wasn't meaning you specifically @RufustheBadgeringReindeer**

No i know, its fine

Just wasn’t keen on other people making 2 +2=5 😀

GreyhoundG1rl · 22/07/2021 13:11

I think of Hitler as a painter, primarily. Easily done.

Troll hunting is against the rules here I believe.

Why is India Knight so damned by her husbands actions?
The wives of physically abusive men aren’t generally considered complicit or ‘apologists’
She hasn’t divorced him
She hasn’t gone and hidden away as of the crime was her own
Maybe you guys would have done - I think I would have done at least the former - but she’s made a different choice. It’s not illegal to handle things differently and why should she be vilified????

ConstanceGracy · 22/07/2021 13:47

@Bryonyshcmyony

Why would anyone actually WANT someone cancelled?

cancel culture is a scourge.

Because his tweets were disgusting! The woman is dead and he hoped she had gone to hell just for accusing his family of nepotism
Bryonyshcmyony · 22/07/2021 13:50

Yes his tweets were horrible and weird
But tbf Dawn Foster started it, not sure why she decided to pick on him particularly.

And I still don't agree with cancellation culture. As another poster said I do wonder if some people know what that actually is.

Oh come on.

You stand by a paedophile you take the flak.

Save your sympathy for the abused toddlers in the videos her partner was watching.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/07/2021 13:54

@GoodbyePorpoiseSpit someone has already posted a link to the original thread about India Knight. You'll find answers to your question there.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 22/07/2021 13:57

I don’t know, often groomers are very sympathetically received by their family. They groom the world and we do better to try to understand that position in order to safeguard.
I can hold both sympathy for the victims and a view on India in my head at the same time, it’s not zero sum.
However, as I have said I would certainly (or as certain as I can be) make a different decision. I just find it interesting that a crime committed by the husband should reflect so badly on the women

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 22/07/2021 13:57

Ok @TooBigForMyBoots I’ll have a look

This is literally what the whole thread is about.
Orf1abc · 22/07/2021 14:12

But tbf Dawn Foster started it

Are you twelve years old? This is what Dawn said,

Giles Coren a prime example of how the “if I’ve heard of yer da, I don’t need to hear from you” rule holds for almost every man bar Jesus.

Imagine laughing at a woman's death because she made a perfectly valid point.

Blossomtoes · 22/07/2021 14:17

I just find it interesting that a crime committed by the husband should reflect so badly on the women

She gave evidence in his favour at his trial which helped prevent him from being sent to prison. She chose him above her daughter. She shares his bed. It’s hard to see how much clearer it can be made.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/07/2021 14:18

But tbf Dawn Foster started it, not sure why she decided to pick on him particularly.

Why not? He is everything that she said. As for "She started it...", childish nonsense @Bryonyshcmyony.🙄

This is definitely not Giles. I live in Kentish Town and everyone I’ve spoken to has found the memorial highly amusing. I wonder if it will be re-erected tonight?

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 22/07/2021 14:22

Quite. Physically abusive men are abhorrent yes. But to be in defence of, and continue to have a sexual (I'm assuming) relationship with a 'man' who actively searches for indecent images of children and a baby being raped is another level and beyond the realms of comprehension. Also choosing this over her daughter who now lives with her father as a result.

To be honest how that needed pointing out is also mind bogging (to me).

RaquelOak · 22/07/2021 14:25

I think this whole issue is blowing up rather than blowing over. I think by the weekend there will be more opinion pieces about nepotism in the media, a cute run on other dubious things Giles Coren has said and done. And then all the runners/TV producers etc. will come forward to say what a sh*t he is. He actually does relatively little TV and not very much cookery/food programming considering what a famous critic he is. I wonder why? I heard he behaved really badly on the F Word via a producer friend and people don’t want to work with him any more.

mustlovegin · 22/07/2021 15:31

Ok Raquel, you're letting your imagination run a bit wild here, don't you think?. You seem to have a personal vendetta against this bloke. Are you sure you or any of your 'producer friends' are not coveting his column?

This is very common unfortunately. A campaign is mounted against someone as many say to be 'offended' or 'outraged'. 'Bad guy' is ousted, new person waiting in the sidelines (and probably responsible for the campaign) takes his place. Nice.

mustlovegin · 22/07/2021 15:35

childish nonsense

Leaving DF aside, as it's insensitive to continue to discuss her IMO, but more in general, do people think that if someone chooses a target and launches a full on attack, the victim will not retaliate (or the attacker should not expect 'consequences' - as so many like to say here)?

What makes one immune to potential retaliation?

mustlovegin · 22/07/2021 15:36

Apparently Giles' house has been "daubed" in dog mess

Very civilised, for sure. What sort of people would be capable of displaying this behaviour?

gollyh · 22/07/2021 15:36

hat if someone chooses a target and launches a full on attack, the victim will not retaliate (or the attacker should not expect 'consequences' - as so many like to say here)?

define full on attack?
