…who have let themselves be manipulated by the right wing media and the Government?

Freedom can mean lots of things and you can look all over the world for examples of people who are not free.

But the Government, supported by the right wing media, are selling this idea of a freedom day as a distraction from rocketing Covid rates.

I think people who buy into it are sheep.

Any particular breed ?

Elys3 · 19/07/2021 08:53

Yes it’s a distraction. Whilst freedoms that really matter such as rights to peacefully protest are being curtailed.

This is true, although I actually think the restrictions that have just been lifted are pretty shit. A government legislating for who you are allowed in your house (max 6) is pretty authoritarian. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong in the circumstances but let’s not pretend it’s nothing.

Yep, and it should say to us that freedom is hard won and soon lost, and we should not be complacent about the infringements on our freedom which covid has necessitated.

When I read posts like yours it makes sense to me how tyranny has flourished in the past.

tallduckandhandsome · 19/07/2021 08:58

I think you're over thinking it, it's just a meme-like event that has taken off. Are you really surprised given we have been under some form of lockdown?

I'm celebrating freedom day by putting a wash on and WFH.

Demelza82 · 19/07/2021 09:01

YANBU. People don't like to be inconvenienced in the slightest way and tantrum about it. They also sound like whiny first world half wits when it comes to their understanding of what 'freedom' actually is. I'm glad to be a smart, considerate person and know that none of this shit will end up being on me.

Deliaskis · 19/07/2021 09:04

Crying 'stupid sheep' is hardly better though.

GiantWingedWaspMoth · 19/07/2021 09:10

Maybe this kind

To think people crying ‘Freedom’ today are stupid sheep…
OppsUpsSide · 19/07/2021 09:11

I think calling people sheep or sheeple is dehumanising and fucking irritating.

Secondbellini · 19/07/2021 09:12

We are now a bit freer than we were.

It is too hot to do much anyway.

Howcanthisbe123 · 19/07/2021 09:14

It just doesn’t matter really does it. You have one opinion, someone else has another, nothing new.

Newrumpus · 19/07/2021 09:15

Name-calling is silly and doesn’t make your point well. Today some significant restrictions have been lifted therefore there is a relative freedom today. This is news-worthy. Maybe not worth the attention that BBC Breakfast is giving it though! Clearly prisoners or those living under totalitarian regimes will not be celebrating freedom today but many people will be able to experience new routines today and that should be reported.

Farwest · 19/07/2021 09:21

Stop calling others sheep. It makes you sound like a twat.

KarmaStar · 19/07/2021 09:22

Insulting and badly worded title which will garner your point little sympathy, valid or not.

JaceLancs · 19/07/2021 09:23

As soon as you used the word sheep I thought less of you
Thanks other posters for lovely real sheep pictures

Youdiditanyway · 19/07/2021 09:24

How interesting. I thought people who believed lockdowns were beneficial were sheep but it transpires people who are grateful they are over are. Glad you cleared this up for us.

WellLarDeDar · 19/07/2021 09:26

are you one of those people that go on news articles and call everyone sheeps in the comments section. i know you think you're being clever with the analogy but you just sound like a twat.

MaxNormal · 19/07/2021 09:29

Rather rude of you OP.

MotionActivatedDog · 19/07/2021 09:29

Do your blood pressure a favour and choose not to care OP. Be free from the unnecessary stress regarding other people’s thoughts. It really doesn’t matter.

Ponoka7 · 19/07/2021 09:29

The theatre was part of my leisure time. I had three trips booked when Covid hit. I will now be free to go to the theatre again.
I know older single men who relied on sitting by the bar and chatting to people, as a way of getting social interaction. Likewise the afternoon lunch clubs etc are opening up again. So they now have the freedom to have human company again.
It's another slogan that the government are using, but for many in the UK, it is freedom day.

Saucery · 19/07/2021 09:30

I always think it might be unwise to call these sheep…….’sheep’ to their faces….. They are like Da Management of the ovine world.

Noterook · 19/07/2021 09:31

I don't know anyone in real life who speaks like this.

StormzyinaTCup · 19/07/2021 09:32

Saucery I love your sheep pic, are they real they look almost knitted😁

For what it’s worth I think the situation is now more confusing than before, every shop/public space is going to be applying it’s own set of COVID rules (or not). At least before we all knew what was expected of us when we ventured out.
