To think people crying ‘Freedom’ today are stupid sheep…

…who have let themselves be manipulated by the right wing media and the Government?

Freedom can mean lots of things and you can look all over the world for examples of people who are not free.

But the Government, supported by the right wing media, are selling this idea of a freedom day as a distraction from rocketing Covid rates.

I think people who buy into it are sheep.

@SmallPrawnEnergy I clearly need to work on my sarcasm, you didn’t quite grasp my tone but I definitely wasn’t being serious! My overall point was the fact the term sheep was previously thrown at people who believed in lockdowns, now the OP is throwing it at people who are happy lockdowns are over today. Didn’t think I’d need to explain that but there you go…

TheGenealogist · 19/07/2021 12:24

If we're talking sheep the best sheep is the merino. Brilliant knitting yarn from them.

Saucery · 19/07/2021 12:30

No @TheGenealogist, that would be Blue Faced Leicester (allergies excepted). You can’t beat a bit of Biffle.

Covid has really made people nasty, hasn't it?

casualnamechange · 19/07/2021 12:33

I think anyone who refers to others as “sheep” is usually pretty arrogant and thinks they know best.

I haven’t referred to it as freedom day, but I cba with the constant “my thinking is right and you’re all stupid” shit we get from every angle.

Blossomtoes · 19/07/2021 12:36

@Horehound

Covid has really made people nasty, hasn't it?
No, they were always nasty. It’s just given them more outlets
CastawayQueen · 19/07/2021 12:37

@CaptainThe95thRifles

I find this sort of lazy generalisation offensive to sheep. They have social intelligence which is far superior to that of many human beings, and, as anyone who's ever had to deal with the little woolly monsters knows, they're rebellious little buggers too.
They’re stupid. Because they graze in the same enclosure with the same fence every single day and still manage to get their ears stuck in it. Every. Single. Time.
TopTabby · 19/07/2021 12:39

Ahhh, I thought there'd be a yet another, yawn heated debate raging but instead there were lovely pictures of sheep!
Brightened up my lunch break!

MotionActivatedDog · 19/07/2021 12:48

If you had to be a sheep, what kind of sheep would you be?

I’d be one with horns.

Saucery · 19/07/2021 12:50

Probably a Herdwick. They are just so stoic and unflappable.

They have nice faces @Saucery

They do, MotionActivatedDog! Don’t tend to get in a flap when you walk past them, happily take up whole Lakeland roads to get from A to B, endlessly photogenic around tarns……..their wool could be a bit softer but it’s fab for belts, dog leads and rugs. 9/10 for Herdies.

Viviennemary · 19/07/2021 12:55

Im happy to be a stupid sheep. Sheep don't have to wear masks. Freedom from masks.

MinnieMountain · 19/07/2021 12:58

How cute are these? Grin

Ahhhh, lambies! ❤️

Saucery · 19/07/2021 13:04

May I suggest Sheepingly Sheepish The Group on FB for those wishing to revel in photos of sheep?
Also, urban_herdwick on IG, for little needlefelted ones in lovely scenery.

I guarantee you will walk away from your screen with renewed peace and munificence in your heart for (nearly all) humankind Smile

pigsDOfly · 19/07/2021 13:07

I accept that this whole 'freedom' thing is stupid OP, and suspect that everyone throwing caution to the wind is likely to end in another lockdown come Autumn.

However, you completely lost me at the sheep comment, it's a very lazy insult.

Loving all the sheep pictures though, especially the little shaggy black faced ones.

StormzyinaTCup · 19/07/2021 13:14

Well I'm the black sheep in the family so this would be me (only I'm not nearly as cute looking!)

Wow every day is a school day! I was vaguely aware that there were different types of sheep but didn’t realise how many and how sweet some of them are.
Ok not quite the point of the thread but I feel better for looking at them so thanks op. Grin

LakieLady · 19/07/2021 14:11

@Saucery, what breed are those lovely sheep, please?

They are beyond cute. I may have to retrain as a shepherd and find a job where they have a flock of those.

I dont agree with them, but being rude won't change minds. And you trying to be superior doesn't help either
BlatantlyNameChanged · 19/07/2021 14:23

I find the whole 'Freedom Day' rhetoric to be a bit too Berlin c1939 for my tastes plus the government and the press whipping it up and creating an atmosphere where people think its okay to be dicks. I don't agree with calling people sheep though.

Probably some of them believed what was written on the side of a bus in 2016.
