I just thought I'd share this for anyone struggling with the hot weather or menopausal hot flushes! 🥵

DH said a guy at work was using one so he bought one for me and it's amazing Grin

I've been wearing it since it arrived this morning and despite looking like a DJ who's forgotten where her ears are, it's made an amazing difference and kept me cool all day.

Anyone else tried them? They're a bit noisy at first but my brain has kind of filtered the noise out in favour of the constant cool air.

We can see this thread is a few years old so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but we’ve recently updated our best neck fan guide with plenty of Mumsnetter-approved recommendations, all tried and tested by MNHQ. We hope it helps.

@TrickorTreacle you're very welcome.

Happy cooling! Grin

MINE ARRIVED !!

I love it

It's probably the same amount of wind you get out of one of those hand held mini fans but with out having to hold or use a shit tonne of batteries.

Excellent !

BonnyandPoppy · 19/07/2021 17:48

I have found it useful hanging over the top of the dining chair next to me facing and blowing on me while I'm working on my laptop. Quiet enough to run during zoom meetings too and can charge it at the same time from my laptop usb port.

Forgottenyeti · 19/07/2021 18:07

Mine arrived and I had a nice hour or so and the battery ran out. The humanity. I like that it's usb c though, very convenient.

treesgoping · 19/07/2021 20:18
@treesgoping I couldn't wear it in bed as the hard plastic was uncomfortable and the pillow kept blocking the little holes and making a weird noise.

It was nice to grab and put on when I woke up in a puddle of sweat though.
Thanks for the update. I appreciate the live reporting from the (sweaty) frontline.
I'm sure they are running low on stock because thousands of mumsnetters bought one last night.

SometimesIFeedTheSparrows · 19/07/2021 20:27

I saw a pair of these in the wild today - went to collect the car from the garage and the mechanic was wearing a one around his neck. DH was all Hmm 'those are weird headphones' Grin

Onairjunkie · 19/07/2021 20:37

How nice is your colleague @WorraLiberty?!

BakedTattie · 19/07/2021 20:57

Just ordered one for me and one for my best pal 👌🏻🎉

WorraLiberty · 19/07/2021 21:20

@Onairjunkie

How nice is your colleague *@WorraLiberty*?!
No, it was DH's colleague and when DH saw how good it was he bought me one.

The colleague didn't buy it for me, although it does read like that 😂😂

@WorraLiberty thanks so much, it is giving me some relief from the heat at last

DinosaurFarmer · 19/07/2021 22:09

Most useful thread ever - thank you! Had no idea these were a thing but now I know I can't believe more people don't know! Have just bought and mine is coming tomorrow - all being well will purchase extras for my fellow menopausal colleagues. I had 3 fans on my desk today and still melted. I have just bought the cordless, telescopic fan mentioned upthread which seems to work well. To be honest I'll do anything to avoid sweating myself away into a puddle! Grin

WorraLiberty · 19/07/2021 22:13

You're all very welcome!

Tbh I was scared stiff they're arrive and you'd all hate them 👀😅

Forgottenyeti · 19/07/2021 22:19

🤣 I would have felt the same.

I'm loving mine though! Thank you!

FredaFox · 19/07/2021 22:20

I saw these yesterday for the first time and wondered if they work. I'm getting one after reading this!!

pollywollydoodler · 20/07/2021 05:36

@HopeHappy

Excuse my ignorance, but is a chillow effectively the same thing as a dog cooling mat??

If so I may commandeer the pets' one, seeing as the buggers prefer sitting in the heat in their fur coats, rather than even attempting to keep cool.

Last night pre bed I had a cool shower and went to bed with wet hair, a towel on my pillow and a fan blowing a stream of air across my legs - it was lovely! Slept like a dream!

Yes the ones called Chillows now are thin sealed gel mats. They offer some relief. You'd do better with 2 so you can alternate them

My original Chillow , which you filled with water, died on me last Summer after many years. It was fabulous. It seems impossible to replace with the original type. If anyone has come across one please let me know

Oh my god

I’ve ordered one! Thank you!

I think I’m about to literally melt!

JungleBeats · 20/07/2021 09:10

They are the size of over the head headphones and look like you have headphones around your neck

Nocutenamesleft · 20/07/2021 09:15

I have autonomic conditions. So my sweating is excessive. Made even worse by menopause. Which I didn’t even think could happen.

It horrific.

Nocutenamesleft · 20/07/2021 09:18

@FizziWater and @housemdwaswrong

I take steroids too. Buggers are a bloody nightmare in the summer! Bloody Addison’s.

ssd · 20/07/2021 09:23

Im working tomorrow in 32 degree heat inside with no windows to open...im actually desperate for one of these but they all seem to be out of stock or delivery is ages away...cant afford prime....

Can i buy these in any shops?

ssd · 20/07/2021 09:57

I just ordered one and paid extra for delivery today

Shodan · 20/07/2021 10:02

One of my brothers was telling me about these at the weekend!

I ordered a pink one cos it was cheaper and would arrive today Grin

Looking forward to less sweatiness.

FizziWater · 20/07/2021 11:34

So testing it out today doing some jobs around the house.
Yes it keeps me cool, but while having the air blowing into my face feels lovely I can feel my skin dehydrating by the minute. So I've tried using it backwards so I get a lovely draught up the back of my neck and head.
