To waste my weekend hiding from the baking hot sun?

Moaned about the weather and the sunshine is here by the bucket load this weekend. Am I having a day out somewhere lovely, taking a walk somewhere pretty or enjoying the garden. No. I'm indoors trying to keep cool avoiding the sun until the garden gets some shade.

Am I the only one wasting their weekend avoiding the sun?

I’m hiding too. I have the curtains drawn in the coolest part of the house. I’ve just ordered a hot water bottle to fill with ice.

clartymare · 18/07/2021 13:58

I’m hiding inside our garden is a sun trap and it’s just too hot. Toddler DS is very fair and hates the heat - we will go out later when it cools down a bit!

Twinstudy · 18/07/2021 13:59

Nope it's too hot for me. Inside with the fan on. Lots of people love it and that's great but it annoys me when people won't accept that I don't!

Went to hang my washing out earlier and my neighbour told me it was criminal to spend a day like today inside 😄

SquashMinusIsShit · 18/07/2021 13:59

We watched a film yesterday afternoon & DD is currently watching YouTube because it's too hot outside. O ur garden never gets any breeze so is unbearable when it is this hot

WisestIsShe · 18/07/2021 14:00

YANBU. I did that yesterday. Today I have a chair in the shade, a book in my hand and my feet in the paddling pool. Just as cool and more pleasant.

SquashMinusIsShit · 18/07/2021 14:00

I couldn't face the constant Sun cream applying, loads.of people, beaming sun of a day out either

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 18/07/2021 14:00

Nope! I was out yesterday but was just too hot I felt like I was going to melt! Today I'm hiding inside but will go out later maybe at about 5 oclock.

I'm only 12 weeks pregnant as well so i don't know how those who are heavily pregnant are coping!

Whimsy14 · 18/07/2021 14:00

I'm watering the garden but that's the total sum of my outdoor activities. Fortunately our lounge is north facing with thick walls, so it stays relatively cool.
Bedroom curtains are kept closed all day but it still gets too hot in there for comfortable sleep.

Muchmorethan · 18/07/2021 14:00

Inside also. I burn even when in the shade so it's self preservation

Lunariagal · 18/07/2021 14:00

Me too. Although I'm a gardener so won't have any excuse for the rest of the week.

MadeOfStarStuff · 18/07/2021 14:01

YANBU

It’s too hot to enjoy when it’s like this. Low twenties is as much as I can cope with if I actually have to do anything. Dreading my commute tomorrow

LadyCluck · 18/07/2021 14:01

Too hot for me. Hiding indoors with the 4 month old. Will go for a nice walk with the dog later when it’s cooled down.

SpongeBarb · 18/07/2021 14:01

There is no middle ground in our country though. I don't want November-like wind and rain, but I also don't want 30 degrees.

This. It's constant. I'm either applying it or worrying about when to apply it. I try to cover DC in rash vests and shorts but still, I spend the entire time we are out worried about the sun and shouting "HAT!"
MyFloorIsLava · 18/07/2021 14:03

We went swimming at 8am and to the playground at 9.30am so that the DC could get some activity in the day before it got boiling. DD just flops into a heap when its scorching, we're in the living room with the lights off and the shutters closed trying to not overheat.

Lockheart · 18/07/2021 14:04

It's too much for me too, especially this afternoon!

If I had some shade or I could go somewhere for lunch / dinner with some shade that would be nice. But even going to the shops this morning you could already feel the heat glaring from the roads and pavements!

PerfectPrepPrincess · 18/07/2021 14:07

Hiding indoors with baby... I used to love this weather and now I absolutely hate it HATE IT!!! Constantly stressing on what to dress baby in, is baby too hot or too cold, are they still breathing 😂

I live for cool cloudy days now.

purplewolfie · 18/07/2021 14:08

I'm going to read my book in the bath

Vates · 18/07/2021 14:09

I absolutely hate Summer, my anxiety always gets worse and I suffer from low moods because of lack of sleep and being uncomfortable. I am sat just in my underwear and a t-shirt in front of the fan on full blast. And I soak my feet in cold water, loads of cold drinks, ice lollies and ice cream.

Mountaingoatling · 18/07/2021 14:10

Me too!!! And I feel so frustrated with myself. Have had lovely couple of weekends away but now just holed up in house putting ice cubes in my bra.

MordredsOrrery · 18/07/2021 14:10

I've spent the morning hiding in the shade while the kids were in the paddling pool. Thankfully they've given up now and I'm allowing unlimited screen time until it cools down again. I'm assuaging my guilt by doing boring jobs in the house, like sorting out next year's uniform for labeling whilst standing beside the fan.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/07/2021 14:10

Me too. Might have to nip to the shop in a bit but otherwise hiding.

The combination of heat, strong sun, fair skin, hayfever and asthma isn’t great. At least the awful humidity seems to have gone for now.

HappyWipings · 18/07/2021 14:12

We're the same op. I'm sitting with a cold drink and my 3 year old is sitting in his pants playing with his blocks. We've got two tower fans on the goSmile

DwangelaForever · 18/07/2021 14:12

No! There's nothing wrong with not liking the hot weather. No guilt whatsoever about staying home.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/07/2021 14:13

We were out all day yesterday but we're lying low today. 27 is pleasant but when it gets above 30 I enter a state of torpor until normality is restored.
