To waste my weekend hiding from the baking hot sun?

Window1 · 18/07/2021 13:56

Moaned about the weather and the sunshine is here by the bucket load this weekend. Am I having a day out somewhere lovely, taking a walk somewhere pretty or enjoying the garden. No. I'm indoors trying to keep cool avoiding the sun until the garden gets some shade.

Am I the only one wasting their weekend avoiding the sun?

tootiredtobother · 18/07/2021 15:17

having discovered that every single bottle of sun cream in the house is out of date, BY YEARS, im inside too

Soubriquet · 18/07/2021 15:17

Nope. I’m hiding in a room that has black out film on the window and two fans

I don’t like sitting in the sun anyway.

I’m supposed to go to sports day tomorrow, so I’m planning on taking my big brolly with me to try and stay shaded

godmum56 · 18/07/2021 15:18

I wouldn't call it a waste. I have got cold drinks excellent books and good stuff on TV

BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/07/2021 15:21

We're hiding out because it's too warm to do anything without turning into a puddle. Was out and about yesterday so that's enough.
Dog will not relent and come inside, even though the panting is now excessive!

ShrikeAttack · 18/07/2021 15:22

Commiserations to those in more sweltering areas though.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 18/07/2021 15:24

I'm inside with the aircon on. It's a little bit chilly though ....

Agadorsparticus · 18/07/2021 15:25

Me. I'm binge watching American Horror story with a glass of wine and a fan on.

Our garden is south facing and roasting out there. I'm really looking forward to a west facing garden in our new home, a bit of sun in the morning and the afternoon in the shade sounds perfect.

Londontown12 · 18/07/2021 15:28

Hiding here too !!!

toolazytothinkofausername · 18/07/2021 15:28

The trick is to rest/watch TV from now until 6pm, then go out from 6pm-10pm.

wordsareveryunnecessary · 18/07/2021 15:29

I always hide from hot sunshine. I bounce back on cool and breezy days

Treaclepie19 · 18/07/2021 15:30

Nope. We're hiding too. I had to take ds to football earlier and that's finished me off for the week.

ahoyshipmates · 18/07/2021 15:32

Well I was watching the F1 under sufferance because the tv is on in the coolest room in the house, and then...

Who did I spot standing chatting in the pits but Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/07/2021 15:32

I'm the same indoors, lying down in front of the fan
It's way too hot for me, and I find it exhausting

ClottingCream · 18/07/2021 15:32

Makes total sense to stay in the shade during afternoons like this. You can always go outside again later. Our garden is now too hot until after 7pm.

HaroldTheHare · 18/07/2021 15:34

I'm v pale skinned & not built for heat but we have a gorgeous garden with boundaries of v mature trees so loads & loads of dappled shade. There's literally nothing nicer than sitting in the warmth in the shade of a tree!
The front of the house gets full sun & that keeps dh happy too.
We've just spent the past 3 hours gardening.
We're rural & always enjoyed the peace & quiet until bastard neighbours built a huge monstrosity practically on top of us

Their garden is an unsheltered, unshaded field & it looks like they're having to hide indoors due to the weather today haha!
Makes me all the more grateful for our lovely mature private garden

PattyPan · 18/07/2021 15:35

We have DP’s friend over, just had a bbq and now I’ve retreated inside, can’t cope with the garden temperature anymore! I’ve kept the curtains and blinds closed so it’s a bit cooler indoors. I would feel rude but friend really came over to play Pokemon with DP which I’m not involved in anyway Grin

PuppyMonkey · 18/07/2021 15:36

Another one hiding in a dark room.

Why does it have to be either pissing it down or 35 degrees in the shade in summer now?

Who can actually enjoy this kind of heat? I can’t eat, can’t sleep at night, can’t relax, it’s hideous.

StarCourt · 18/07/2021 15:36

Met friends for breakfast at 10am, meltingly hot in the cafe. Walked home, stripped off and flopped on my bed watching the British GP. All curtains closed and fans on.

Naaaaah · 18/07/2021 15:38

Loathe and detest this weather. Am inside infront of a fan and will remain so for the next week or so. 30 degrees here today and its forecast to be 32 tomorrow 😣 Getting up at 6am tomorrow to go for a bike ride but it'll still be about 20 degrees then.

Ludoole · 18/07/2021 15:40

I'm in a lovely air conditioned pub. It's great 👍

newnortherner111 · 18/07/2021 15:49

I don't like weather presenters assuming everyone likes warmer weather, even if pollen counts are low. It is not for everyone, and as long as you are doing something interesting and/or productive, see no issue with what the OP and others are doing.

loopylindi · 18/07/2021 15:52

tips for the hot weather:

  1. drape a wet t towel over the fan, or put blocks of ice in front of it to chill the air.
  2. open up your trap door to the attic to allow hot air to rise up there.
3 avoid sweetened drinks - cordial and the like. You'll just get thirstier.

We are lucky to live by the coast so we get sea breezes but I too am hiding and getting plenty of screen time.

mrsbyers · 18/07/2021 15:52

I’m hiding too , we did go to IKEA yesterday as knew it would be empty but apart from that sat inside with blinds shut

starfishmummy · 18/07/2021 15:53

Me too.

Part of me wants to be outside but I burn and come up in prickly heat even if I smother myself in factor 50 and cover up. It's also high pollen count so even indoors I am wheezing like a steam train.

Loubiemoo · 18/07/2021 15:53

Also wasting my time in the house with the curtains mostly drawn. Too hot. Will venture into the garden later when it cools down.
