To waste my weekend hiding from the baking hot sun?

Moaned about the weather and the sunshine is here by the bucket load this weekend. Am I having a day out somewhere lovely, taking a walk somewhere pretty or enjoying the garden. No. I'm indoors trying to keep cool avoiding the sun until the garden gets some shade.

Am I the only one wasting their weekend avoiding the sun?

Perfect day, not having to do anything. It will still be there tomorrow or the next day.
Having a lovely chill in a cool room at the front.

Filling up a hot water bottle with cold water and putting it in the freezer for bedtime

avocadotofu · 18/07/2021 16:57

You're not alone. I melt in the heat so I'm hiding inside too.

Iamthewombat · 18/07/2021 16:58

I ran a 10k today. It brought me little joy. Did personal worst (as opposed to personal best) and spent entire race hoping I would not get heatstroke! Unusually for me, no enthusiasm for post race chocolate. I wanted an ice bath, but there wasn’t one.

The day was saved by banter with other misguided fools doing the same race. Eg it could be worse, we could be sitting in a shady beer garden drinking negroni sbagliatos etc etc.

I never learn. I should have stayed indoors like the sensible people on this thread.

I dislike hot weather, it's way too hot for me to be outside. However I don't 'waste' my time indoors, I've been using today to catch up on some reading and learning Welsh. The evenings are nice, though, once that hot ball of light has gone down. At that point I can sit out!

Window1 · 18/07/2021 17:00

@HackAttack

I've been wild swimming that helps with managing the heat
That sounds lovely and refreshing. Not sure we have anywhere safe nearby to do that.

@Tereseta

I should be hiding with a fan in my knickers but instead I'm trapped in a sweltering car on the m5
Oh no! Hope you have some air con ...

@Doubledoorsontogarden

I booked cinema, 2 hours in the cool, bliss!
That's a good idea!

I really thought there'd be a decent mix of people encouraging us to get out and enjoy while it lasts, sit under a tree for shade etc etc but it seems MN is full of my people.

Bring on 18-22 degrees sunny with a light breeze.

Wow well done on your 10k. I'm sure your next run will be a good one.

I'm pregnant and it's hell.

melmos · 18/07/2021 17:06

Yanbu I am watching morse with a fan on and the curtains closed drinking wine and eating pasta. Bliss!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 18/07/2021 17:26

Do you remember that day about 2 or 3 years ago where the temp reached 38? Or at least it did here in the SE. That set my benchmark for hell.

I hate hot weather.
I hate not being able to walk the length of the garden without sweating.
I hate sunscreen.
I hate not being able to sleep.

Grumble, grumble.

I keep reminding myself that soon it'll be glorious autumn. Autumn is my reward for suffering summer. Grin

Evenstar · 18/07/2021 17:29

I had surgery on my foot a couple of weeks ago, I have a horrible hot sweaty dressing, can’t get in the shower and I am really fed up of this 😭

MysteriousMonkey · 18/07/2021 17:33

Also indoors and will be as much as possible til the weather chills out a bit

ShirleyDab · 18/07/2021 17:36

I've found my people! It's too bloody hot.

ShirleyDab · 18/07/2021 17:38

I really don't know how Aussies cope with their summer.

FionaCorkesWardrobebyKamizole · 18/07/2021 17:38

YANBU. We are right by the sea and there's barely a sea breeze today, it's really unusual for here. The normally deserted beach has been busy all afternoon, so I've been inside watching the TDF in the cool. As soon as it finishes, DC and I are off to the beach for the evening instead when the hordes have gone home.

Adzii77 · 18/07/2021 17:46

Totally get you! I am not a summer person at all! Heat makes me so bad tempered. Will always be found sitting in the shade. I’m actually sure I’m part vampire…. Love winter though as I much prefer cold crisp days... Ironically, my job is a glassmaker. Please spare a thought for me this week whilst it’s baking hot outside, and I’m inside standing in front of a 1400 degrees C furnace!! What a stupid career choice!!!

Auntienumber8 · 18/07/2021 17:47

We have a patio at the end of the garden it’s under a tree and a canopy so great shade. So we had lunch and played scrabble for a couple of hours. I avoid direct sunlight. It is so hot I popped in and jumped in the shower in my summer dress and let it dry off, really cooling.

YanTanTethera123 · 18/07/2021 17:50

I hate this heat, and it’s not getting any cooler this week 🤬
I will walk puppy at 6am and stay indoors with the fan on high. Thankfully I don’t have anything much to do this week, so glad I’m not working. My last office had windows that only opened 3”, was full sun all afternoon and absolute torture to work in.

SkiingIsHeaven · 18/07/2021 17:52

I had planned to do a load of jobs today but it is way too hot. Currently in a hammock under a gazebo. Bliss.

Lamby225 · 18/07/2021 18:08

I found a shady spot in the garden for a read on my lounger all lovely until neighbour to rear cranked up the music and young couple across the road started to burn rubbish . Swiftly retreated indoors !
