The Italian Captain is a bully!

The Italian Football Captain is a horrible bully.

He should have got a red card for the way he treated Saka pulling his shirt collar and dragging him to the floor.

Also when Italy were against Spain the way he grabbed the Spanish captain persuading him to do penalties on the Italian side.

I can’t stand him. He deserves no praise and his team played dirty!

@GirlAloud

A big thank you to all the non-football fans on this thread who have given me a good laugh with their lack of understanding of tactical fouls. Grin

Chiellini is a vastly experienced master defender, in the best Italian tradition. He knew exactly what he was doing, and took a yellow card in order to neutralise the danger to his team. I wish he played for my club.

This! Agreed.
ViciousJackdaw · 13/07/2021 21:00

Don't be a silly salsiccia OP, it's all just part of football. Shirts are pulled, players are tripped, profanities are uttered and saliva is spat. If you want to see gentlemen then maybe watch cricket instead.

ChocBeforeCock · 13/07/2021 21:00

@XDownwiththissortofthingX

Chiellini = a colossus

Perhaps if England had a few more Chiellini types down the years they wouldn't be the most ridiculously under-achieving nation in footballing history, and this thread wouldn't be so full of butthurt and astonishing ignorance, bemoaning the fact that yet again England have failed to win when presented with every single advantage imaginable.

As for the petition -

What an embarrassment Blush

Presumably there's one demanding a replay of the 1966 Final where England benefitted to the tune of one 'goal' that was no such thing, and another scored at a point when the match should have been suspended due to interlopers on the pitch?

No, thought not.

Can I have a link to the one arguing for Denmark's reinstatement after being cheated by an English player then?

The one sounding bitter here is you. Clearly a number of posters on this thread don’t watch a lot of football but your post is embarrassing.

“The most ridiculously underachieving nation in footballing history” - one of 8 ever to be world champions.

Here is the link you asked for regarding England/Denmark being replayed.

www.change.org/p/uefa-rematch-england-vs-denmark

Though if you’re a football fan, you’ll k ow penalties like the England/Denmark one are awarded routinely

SpaceshiptoMars · 13/07/2021 21:01

It was a foul against an opposing player. Race had nothing to do with it.

If that was the case, it wouldn't have needed the massive clean up exercise on social media. One quick tug to overbalance, maybe. Not grand ritual humiliation and career-defining ridicule to follow.

Cooldryplace · 13/07/2021 21:01

FGS, there have been numerous examples in the last couple of days when Saka has been treated appallingly because of the colour of his skin, but I promise you Chiellini would have done that to any dangerous player in that position. It was because he's good, not because he's black.

Cooldryplace · 13/07/2021 21:03

Chiellini isn't responsible for what other people have done with the photograph since.

Frownette · 13/07/2021 21:05

Racism and violence are important.

I can't believe some people are thick enough to confuse it with a contact sport like rugby.

Let the carry on with Italians to eat pasta. Who cares?

I care about racism directed towards a teenager. Or anyone.

This is getting even sillier! Grin

A conspiracy theory about a tactical foul. I have heard it all now...

This!!

Sadly the racism has in large parts come from the teams fans.

Being tackled on the pitch is part of the game and nothing to do with race.

Is there video of another player being dragged like this to the ground?

wanttomarryamillionaire · 13/07/2021 21:11

It is what it is! We got lucky with the soft penalty against Denmark and Italy got lucky fouling against us! Italy are well known for playing dirty, we should have expected it.

The only person comparing it to rugby is you.

There are many degrees of contact sport. But football is certainly a contact sport. Is it different to rugby? Yes. But that's because it's football and not rugby. Rules are different.

Once again, it was a foul. Don't think I've seen anyone say it wasn't a foul. But the penalty for that foul was a yellow card and a free kick being given to England. And that's what happened.

I could understand your arguments if the referee had done nothing. But that's not what happened. The referee stopped the game and awarded the free kick.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/07/2021 21:13

“The most ridiculously underachieving nation in footballing history” - one of 8 ever to be world champions.

Yup, with a population of 55 million, the richest league in the world, and a fanbase that never shuts up about being 'the home of football'

England have won the same number of major championships as The Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Netherlands, Portugal, Greece, and Denmark.

Half as many as Uruguay (a fraction of Uruguay's if you include Copa America), half as many World Cups as Argentina and France (who have also won two European Championships), a quarter of Italy's four WC's (+2 Euros), a quarter of Germany's four WC's (+3 Euros), Spain have 1 WC and 2x Euros, Brazil 5 WC's and countless Copa America wins.

Then we have the astonishing fact that aside from outright wins, England have managed just 3 other losing semi-final appearances in their competition history.

Your comment about 'bitter' is bizarre. What on earth is there to be 'bitter' about when the matter at hand is a nations criminal under-achievement? England are an object of perpetual mirth, nothing to provoke bitterness about them Grin
@tigger1001 you're racist and don't have the slightest understanding what that is..
Evidence for accusing her of being a racist? I'm sure you have some to hand.

Oh you are just funny! Stop embarrassing yourself.

A tackle in a game of football isn't racist. Should no one have went near him?

Cooldryplace · 13/07/2021 21:15

Is there another super fast player about to make a crucial pass in the closing minutes of a European Cup final?

Perhaps it's racist not to recognise just how good the lad is? IMO he was the turning point for England's competition. They came alive once he started playing. Of course Chiellini knew how dangerous he was and how vital he was stopped.

ViciousJackdaw · 13/07/2021 21:16

Two words. Martin Skrtel. He pulls what he wants.
XelaM · 13/07/2021 21:17

Lol are people serious?! It’s not Chiellini who was being racist towards Saka!! People have really gone mad.

There have been been WAYYYY worse challenges over the years. Absolutely nothing to do with race!

Nooproblemoo · 13/07/2021 21:17

Get over it.

When things go England's way when they shouldn't, I'm sure you turn a blind eye.

Harry Maguire has wrestled a player to the ground by their neck before..different way but still happened. Its not a one off occupance. Rare but shirt pulls and that happen
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/07/2021 21:17

So you're not able to admit football is a contact sport frownette so you're going down the 'forget all that, it was racist' angle Confused

tigger1001 · 13/07/2021 21:17

@DamsonJammyBastard apparently am racist because I don't think a tackle in a professional game of football is racist. It's laughable.

The comments made by some fans were racist. Tackle? Not so much.

DamsonJammyBastard · 13/07/2021 21:22

@Nooproblemoo

Get over it.

Exactly that. Deciding that Chiellini was being racist in tackling Saka (although there's zero evidence to support this) because they're sore that a result didn't go their way, is of huge concern. Actual loud and proud racism from 1000s of their fellow countrymen and women towards Saka? They're not so bothered by that.
Ratalie · 13/07/2021 21:25

@Frownette

You have already acknowledged in another thread (below) that you don't normally watch football. A lot of posters in here do.

You are being consistently told, by people more knowledgeable than you, that you are spectacularly wrong.

It's okay to be ignorant about a sport you don't usually watch, but trying to assert you know better than actual fans is...well...lets say brave.

Just stop.
