The Italian Captain is a bully!

The Italian Football Captain is a horrible bully.

He should have got a red card for the way he treated Saka pulling his shirt collar and dragging him to the floor.

Also when Italy were against Spain the way he grabbed the Spanish captain persuading him to do penalties on the Italian side.

I can’t stand him. He deserves no praise and his team played dirty!

Ohh I am such a numpty - sorry, @notsogreenthumb. Blush

Ratalie · 14/07/2021 19:42

I was certainly laughing at the thread at points but the racism angle is making me feel increasingly uncomfortable. I'm sure those posters mean well but I think trying to construct a racism narrative around what was a relatively mild foul is bordering on being demeaning to black players.

Mayorquimby2 · 14/07/2021 20:03

"I'm sure those posters mean well"

I'm absolutely positive that they don't.

Absolutely acting in bad faith

@Honeybeebloom

Yep, I agree - for every 3 yellow cards the opposing team should be awarded a goal, might focus the minds a little!

😂🤣🤣
There seem to be a lot of people on here who have never watched a game of football before Sunday night and have no idea what constitutes cheating or are coming up with ridiculous ideas for how the game should be changed.

I know . It really is ridiculous
bumblingbovine49 · 14/07/2021 20:32

@Honeybeebloom

How come they don't choose black players for their national team?

They have done in the past but Italy's colonial history is different to countries such as England or France and so there are far fewer black Italians who would be eligible to play for Italy.

Yes It might be an idea to understand the racial makeup of Italian citizens before asking a ridiculous question

I am in no way saying Italians are never racist, ( they definitely can be) just that the lack of black players in the team is not evidence of this

They didn't have a lot of immigration post the war (or much before then either )mostly because no-one wanted to live there due to the dire post war poverty. They don't have anything like the same proportion of citizens who emigrated there from other countries as does the UK

User135644 · 14/07/2021 20:36

It's okay when it's England players diving or a professional foul to 'take one for the team'. Bunch of hypocrites.

bumblingbovine49 · 14/07/2021 20:43

@romany4

Giorgio Chiellini is not a bully. He's an excellent player who's been fantastic for Juventus for years! And the foul on Chiesa by England was disgraceful. He had to be substituted and Italy weren't even given a free kick.g You clearly have never watched Serie A football!

Move on..

I also thought the foul on Chesa was a disgrace and in fact caused him to be injured enough to have to be replaced . Yet the commentators barely commented on it. I don't watch masses of football but I thought it was far worse than Chellini's foul and was really surprised Italy didn't get at least a free kick It looked really bad on the replay.
bumblingbovine49 · 14/07/2021 20:43

Sorry Chiesa

sammylady37 · 14/07/2021 21:35

This thread is surreal. Yesterday my favourite bit was the repeated emotive reference to the ‘teenager’ as if he was 13 playing in his first competitive game instead of a 19 year old man, old enough to go to literal war for his country.

But that’s been surpassed today by the suggestion that a player who committed a tactical foul is a domestic abuser, a racist and a media-whore. That’s quite the triple-whammy there.

@PopcornMuncher

They didn't win because they cheated..they were unfortunately the better team on the day and they chose more players who put penalties away. Tbf Jordan pickford was lucky not to be booked for all the jumping around when the italians were taking their penalties
Why would he have been booked? You can do anything you like as long as don't come off the line

That's what goalies do, this thread is really showing up the ones who don't watch football on a regular basis!

He was on the line. Jumping on the line.

Mandalay246 · 15/07/2021 08:57

Oh get over it and move on.

DuncinToffee · 15/07/2021 09:33

Penalty kick law

The player taking the penalty kick must kick the ball forward; backheeling is permitted provided the ball moves forward. When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, or in line with, the goal line. The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves.

jetadore · 15/07/2021 09:41

Hilarious thread, well done OP.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 15/07/2021 09:56

Or in line with... He didn't come off the line afaia.

DuncinToffee · 15/07/2021 10:16

That was to show that Jordan Pickford did nothing wrong Smile

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 15/07/2021 10:18

Ah sorry Duncin. I wasn't sure Smile You wouldn't know what madness you might come across on this thread Grin

DuncinToffee · 15/07/2021 10:22

this thread is really showing up the ones who don't watch football on a regular basis!

It always happens at major tournaments but usually England get knocked out much earlier so there's not so much build up to it.

The problem is that hyperbolic comments from women who don't regularly watch football and then come out with utter bullshit just make it harder for those of us who do. As soon as I say I am a football fan I get quizzed on all kinds of obscure and irrelevant football knowledge ("You are a fan of Y team? Name X players from Y team's 1952 Cup winning squad ... you can't because you were only born in 1988? You're not a real fan then") in ways that men never are because men almost always assume that women are clueless and only watching because we fancy the players. Ironically, having to be two steps ahead of a lot of male fans means I have developed a much broader football knowledge than a lot of men and it really pisses them off when I correct them.

If you don't know the rules and laws of the game then don't start stating your opinion as fact. I would rather someone asked the question "I don't watch football regularly so dont understand why wasn't it a red card?" - which can then be answered factually by people who do - than have to fight against the stereotype that ignorant "that was a red card because I don't like that old man bullying that teenager" comments just reinforce.

If you want to learn, ask questions and be willing to admit you were wrong; if you want to spout incorrect, unsubstantiated opinion, be prepared to be shot down
