To take an iPad to a Nice Meal on Sunday?

Football related, obviously.

We've got a very fancy day planned on sunday.

It's not changeable.

We will most likely be eating at kick off time, not quite sure of timings.

Even it we're not eating at that time, we're at the table till 9.30.

Wibu to take some means of watching the game?

I'm sure many of the other people in the room will have some means of following the game, so it would be impossible to hide from any scoring. I think it'd be impossible to just record it and watch it at home at 10.30ish.

We'll be discreet as possible, and obviously not the only people at the meal interested.

Wibu?

You're asking in the wrong place. Cue pages and pages of "bloody football".

It depends though, for me. Where will you be - pub meal? Wedding? I don't think it's polite to whip out an iPad if it's a small group for say your parents' anniversary but if it's a buffet, YANBU.

AddsVsGeorgs · 09/07/2021 19:05

I dont think its appropriate

JaffaRaf · 09/07/2021 19:05

Really depends on the context, date night in a nice restaurant? Sure, as long as your partner is happy. Mother in laws posh birthday meal, possibly not. All depends on who with, why and where.

Daisy829 · 09/07/2021 19:05

Is it a wedding? I was talking to my friend the other day who is at a posh wedding on Sunday! I said if I was the bride I’d try to incorporate the footy into the day. Hope you manage to watch the match.

caughtinanet · 09/07/2021 19:08

You need to give more of a hint of what the occasion is but I think it would be a rude to whip out an iPad and put it on a meal table

Chikapu · 09/07/2021 19:09

Don't watch football while you're having a nice meal, your attention should be on the other people present and the food.

Kinneddar · 09/07/2021 19:10

Inappropriate and rude

Roselilly36 · 09/07/2021 19:11

That would be so rude, if you want to watch the football cancel your booking or don’t attend.

19lottie82 · 09/07/2021 19:12

Not really appropriate. Download the live score app and set up goal notifications on your phone.

nocoolnamesleft · 09/07/2021 19:12

Rude.

Shadedog · 09/07/2021 19:13

Cancel the Nice Meal?

As an aside there is a cute film on Netflix about a boy whose bar mitzvah is on 1966 cup final day.

NuffSaidSam · 09/07/2021 19:14

I think YABU.

I thought this was going to be for a child!

For adults, no. Just don't go if you'd rather watch the football. Its perfectly fine, I'd miss a dinner for the football if I possibly could! You can't be at a nice place having dinner and be watching football on an iPad though. Just no.

LindaEllen · 09/07/2021 19:18

Doesn't matter what it is you'd be watching - watching a screen at the table is a big fat NO from me. Record the game.

Westfacing · 09/07/2021 19:19

You say 'fancy day' - does that mean a smart and expensive restaurant for dinner?

I'm a football fan so it wouldn't bother me - but if you were watching another sport and unable to contain your excitement then I wouldn't be pleased to be seated near you!

You have to be mindful that you're not in a sports bar or your own garden.

thecognoscenti · 09/07/2021 19:20

Where will you be, OP? What's the setting?

Wrotten · 09/07/2021 19:20

Is it a wedding?!

GoWalkabout · 09/07/2021 19:24

Take it and see if it feels appropriate. Following on your phone would be more compatible with actual presence at the event though and more subtle, but if you think a few of you will be able to huddle round then an ipad is better.

YelloYelloYello · 09/07/2021 19:32

An iPad is quite large - you’re basically getting a mini tv out at the table. Depending on the location/situation I can’t think any of the other guests/diners will love that as it’s hardly ‘fancy’ decor/ambiance.

lazyarse123 · 09/07/2021 19:34

Fucking rude in my opinion.

EngSun · 09/07/2021 19:35

It's on a train day trip.

Halfwaytoholiday · 09/07/2021 19:36

Need to know who the meal is for/ are they interested in football

WhatIsThisPlease · 09/07/2021 19:40

It wouldn't bother me. It's a massive, once in a lifetime thing. Watch it. And if it causes offence, turn it off.

ShagMeRiggins · 09/07/2021 19:41

It’s called Sixty Six. Absolutely top film.
drpet49 · 09/07/2021 19:41

No, I wouldn’t do it
