Due to go to a lovely rental house in St Ives on Saturday, much anticipated, DC were both bringing friends. One DC tested positive this morning so we have to cancel.
Had a Tesco order set up there, had made and frozen food to take, and even a couple of restaurant bookings in place. Feel so gutted to miss out.

No that is gutting especially after the last year. Have a little cry and self indulgent moan today and then crack on with something else tomorrow Flowers

ValerieMorghulis · 07/07/2021 13:29

Ah, how disappointing Flowers We are due to go away next week and I’m in fear of this; I feel like I can hardly prepare anything or pack,or it might jinx us!

Is your DC ok? Hopefully you can rustle up some treats to do at home while you isolate. But it’s rubbish and you have my sympathies

TenThousandSpoons · 07/07/2021 13:29

How frustrating. Flowers

ElderMillennial · 07/07/2021 13:29

It is rubbish but there is that rush with booking anything at the moment

ElderMillennial · 07/07/2021 13:30

Will you be able to get any money back or rearrange to go another time?

WellWoman · 07/07/2021 13:30

Thank you @StrictlyaFemaleFemale.

I've hidden from my DC (19 and 17) so they don't think I'm upset with them and trying to get my perspective back.

YANBU. Just rotten that your holiday has been snatched at last minute. Fingers crossed you can change the date.

Puppysharness · 07/07/2021 13:32

Sorry you’re dealing with this :( you might get a lot of ‘holidays aren’t essential’ responses, but most people will understand. We desperately need things to look forward to right now and having them snatched away is just miserable.

I also had a holiday (abroad) cancelled last minute, I cried for ages.

WellWoman · 07/07/2021 13:33

@Eldermilennial. Ts and Cs are that we can get another stay with the same rental company within 12 months. They have lovely properties but they only have a list of about 20 or so. So they are booked solid throughout the summer.
Next summer the DC may have other plans and commitments (one will be overseas most of the academic year) so it may be hard for us to find another time we want to use a big rental house in the area (it was 4 beds to accommodate us and their friends) apart from this summer.

YANBU
We all need a break. Hope you can rearrange.

garlictwist · 07/07/2021 13:33

Ah so disappointing. I had to cancel my holiday last week because the friend I was going with had to isolate and I didn't want to go alone. It's so upsetting when you've been looking forward to something for so long.

MagnificentBottom · 07/07/2021 13:33

That’s rubbish, I’d be upset too. There’ll be other holidays though

WellWoman · 07/07/2021 13:35

@ValerieMorgulhis - am trying to be cheery with the DC. Younger one who tested positive this morning is feeling guilty I can tell. I need to get a smile slapped on and try to think of some treats we can put on supermarket delivery.

grannycake · 07/07/2021 13:36

Any chance of going in the Autumn or even Christmas - Cornwall and especially ST Ives is lovely out of season

Mrs08 · 07/07/2021 13:37

Oh I'm so sorry 😞

MouldyPotato · 07/07/2021 13:37

Hope the DC remains well and doesn't feel guilty. You can't help getting ill.

Sloaneslone · 07/07/2021 13:38

Ah thats so rubbish. Give yourself a bit of time to be upset. It's OK to be disappointed. It's been a rubbish time. It's really OK to get down about this sort of thing Flowers

Orchidflower1 · 07/07/2021 13:38

It’s so disappointing for you.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 07/07/2021 13:39

aww, poor you.Flowers
YANBU

my mum lives in a different country and hasn't been able to come for 2.5 years now (was supposed to last April).
had to cancel her 70th, MIL's 80th & FIL's 90th party because nobody from abroad can visit.
it's all crap. I feel for you.

Flackattack · 07/07/2021 13:40

There might be a cancellation due to other people being in your situation- so make sure you are signed up to be notified!
That is pants! Buy chocolate!!!

WellWoman · 07/07/2021 13:40

@grannycake - Thanks! I do think we might explore October half term. We won't have older DC in the country but might perhaps get another family to come with us.

OP posts:
WellWoman · 07/07/2021 13:43

@ZingDramaQueenofSheeba - that is so awful. So many knockbacks for you and the people you love the most. Flowers for you. And (((()))). xx

Zenithbear · 07/07/2021 13:44

I'm firmly in the holidays are essential camp. I'd be gutted too, so unfair Flowers

Chartreuse45 · 07/07/2021 13:47

@Flackattack That was my first thought too. It does rely on OP being able to change holiday time but maybe that's possible.

DeloresPickleRick · 07/07/2021 13:47

Sorry OP. Not the same, but we were having a long awaited weekend away last weekend just DH and I. Then the kids got sent home from school to self isolate. FFS
