Due to go to a lovely rental house in St Ives on Saturday, much anticipated, DC were both bringing friends. One DC tested positive this morning so we have to cancel.
Had a Tesco order set up there, had made and frozen food to take, and even a couple of restaurant bookings in place. Feel so gutted to miss out.

At first I really wanted to say that if that is your biggest problem in life, than you are quite lucky.
But actually, you are a very sensible and reasonable person. You are not going. So all I can say is thank you for thinking about others and yes, have a cry, a wine, some chocolate.

Disabrie22 · 07/07/2021 22:07

I’m so so sorry OP - I really feel for you - sending you virtual flowers, prosseco and chocolate

HollaHolla · 07/07/2021 22:18

It is rubbish, but you’re doing the right thing. Spikes in numbers are because people aren’t. Angry
If you can get rebooked, even with a cancellation, then that’s great! Some potential to look forward to.
Most importantly, hole you all stay well.

Muffin3 · 07/07/2021 22:30

Oh I feel for you, it’s so rubbish!
Similar happened to us a few weeks ago when we had chicken pox and pneumonia hit our house the day before our uk holiday. I’d suggest indulgent food and some good indoor and outdoor games to make the time fun

BastardMonkfish · 07/07/2021 23:07

@WellWoman

Just popped back to say thanks again for such a lovely lot of sympathetic messages. I felt guilty about feeling upset - now I feel ok about it.

We all went for PCRs this morning. I would be amazed if they come back negative, but Maremaremare gives me a tiny ray of hope....

And to other posters, yes I will definitely tell the lettings company to call me night or day if they have a cancellation. They have been lovely to deal with since I first made the booking so I get the sense they'll be as helpful as they can be.

I didn't realise it was LFTs you'd taken! I had two positive LFTs at the weekend and a negative PCR.
WellWoman · 08/07/2021 11:53

Update: PCR for my younger DC was positive, so we are definitely, definitely, definitely not going. Sad And yes, I had chocolate yesterday evening. And gin.

Have cancelled Tesco delivery to the house.

Rental company clarified ts and cs today, they can only offer us a credit for the same house, as all properties they market are owned by different individuals, so they can't move money between different owners at will.

They have said they will ask the owners if the credit note can be extended for a longer period than 12 months to give us the chance to book a week next summer.

Anyone need a lovely holiday house from this Saturday? Or restaurant bookings in St Ives?

And we are having discussions about what we can do at home while we isolate, to have a bit of fun together. (DC doesn't fell unwell AT ALL).

OP posts:
IncessantNameChanger · 08/07/2021 12:33

That's so unlucky op. I hope DC stays healthy and fit.

Im sending virtual gin and chocolate to you

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/07/2021 12:37

@WellWoman

oh, poor you.
really sorry x

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 08/07/2021 13:01

We are away in three weeks and we are not going anywhere 10 days previous to that where we have to use NHS covid app. This is apart from work where we don’t need to isolate because of PPE.

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 08/07/2021 13:07

That sucks OP. Enjoy your time off as much as you can. I am off for a PCR today as booked for Majorca on Saturday and dreading a positive test! Especially as I live alone and could do without MORE time on my tod.

Movinghouseatlast · 08/07/2021 13:39

Cornwall is fab out of season! I would go in the winter if it's all you can manage.

The house will be rebooked by someone else I have no doubt. I own holiday cottages and I would refund you if I got it booked by someone else.

Make sure you cancel the restaurants as some will charge your credit card if you are a no show.

It must be so hard to be looking forward to something so much and have it cancelled. I would cry too!

Debbacat6 · 08/07/2021 17:50

Not unreasonable. Understandable.
But keep it in proportion.
No ones died.

LauraPearl · 08/07/2021 18:02

I really feel for you - I'd also be gutted. I hope all your refunds/cancellations are all easy and don't add to your upset & frustration.

Dilovescake21 · 08/07/2021 18:05

no you're just normal - I'd be gutted to.

Stripyhoglets1 · 08/07/2021 18:10

We went to Cornwall last week and I was terrified wed get symptoms and have to test. If have been devastated to have had to cancel like you did.
You might get a last minute week if someone else has to cancel.

ALongHardWinter · 08/07/2021 18:11

Oh that's awful OP. So sorry to hear this. Now I'm just waiting for the 'holidays aren't essential, what are you moaning about' brigade to come along.

jwpetal · 08/07/2021 18:15

It is okay to show that you are disappointed and also that you will all make the best of it. Have a cry and take care of yourself than move on. The positive is that you have food made and an order that can be changed to your home address.

Pinuporc · 08/07/2021 18:16

YANBU its disappointing x
Lots of MN dont like people who are excited about , or enjoy birthdays, football matches or holidays but in RL most people find them fun, and look forward to them.
Not a nice way to look at it but if you keep checking it might become available as a last minute booking if the same thing happens to someone else (although obviously would depend if you are able to go last minute),

Stuffin · 08/07/2021 18:16

I think it's perfectly ok to be upset and even let the Dc know that it's ok for them to also be disappointed about having to cancel.

Then you say how people have insurance and companies have T&Cs as this can happen for many reasons and it's just one of those things.

Then ask them to come up with ideas of how to create a holiday at home with food deliveries and next day delivery like Amazon.

For me it's about acknowledging that shit happens but then coming up with things that can be pleasurable to make up for it.

BluebellsGreenbells · 08/07/2021 18:18

Would you do another test? Someone who had to travel from France did 3 tests - some were positive -some, perhaps one - was not. She used the negative test to travel. she said they weren't accurate there

How irresponsible.

beardeddragon174 · 08/07/2021 18:23

That is so shit. I'm sorry x

goingpearshaped · 08/07/2021 18:25

I am so sorry op, that is utterly rubbish. I would be gutted too. So little to look forward to so these things mean even more. Take care.

Junipersky · 08/07/2021 18:27

No, that is rubbish.
I'm in tears too - for a very different reason - but still very much covid related. My heart is shattered.

itsgettingwierd · 08/07/2021 18:31

Other people may be on the same situation as you over the next 5 weeks.

Is there any chance you could just get up and go if a cancellation appeared? If so worth asking if owners would consider this.

Janaba5 · 08/07/2021 18:38

I was supposed to be covering my brother at work so he could go on holiday, but my DS got sent home from school to self isolate as he had been in contact to someone who tested positive. I can't leave him alone all day on his own. He is 12 and sensible but 9 hours on his own is too much, so my brother has had to cancel his holiday, and now he is covering for me.
