To think attractive men are a rare thing?

I’ve been single for a lot of my life/only had a couple of relationships. I find it quite rare to meet or even see in the street a man I find attractive, whereas there are stunning women everywhere (I’m straight). I meet more women due to my job, but it seems that the average woman is better looking than the average man.
Even when I meet someone I find handsome/good looking, I often don’t find I’m attracted to them (I can appreciate they are good looking but something about their personality/mannerism/anything really puts me off). 2 of the 3 relationships I have had I’ve started off friends and only found my self attracted to the person after getting to know them. Only once have I met a guy and been instantly attracted to him and ended up in a relationship. Very occasionally (probably 5ish times) I’ve met other men and been really attracted to them (looks, voice, first impression of personality). But on average I find about 90%+ of the men I meet don’t do it for me at all. Is this normal or am I too fussy? How often do you meet a man you find attractive (whether you’re single or not).

Italy v Spain on now...Lots of handsome players!!

StColumbofNavron · 06/07/2021 20:01

I’d also like to point out that some of the Italian players took off their shorts in celebration of their last victory.

Also, I call dibs on Insigne.

many men get better looking with age

They really don't. That's one of the biggest myths going. Most men age like milk.

Zerogravity · 06/07/2021 20:05

I live in Italy. No shortage of attractive men. I was at a bar at the beach and a young man walked in and, I kid you not, I have never seen anyone look so perfect. Everyone male and female from 10 - 90 was looking! Actually it must be quite the burden to be that good looking!

tallduckandhandsome · 06/07/2021 20:06

@IcedPurple I agree. I can't think of any men who have gotten better looking with age, unless people mean clothes/hairstyle/botox.

Royalbloo · 06/07/2021 20:07

I would agree but I've recently found a v attractive one (even more attractive as he doesn't know he is) shhhh!!!

Zerogravity · 06/07/2021 20:08

Getting better with age? I think that depends on your age. I think
George Clooney looks better in middle age than when he was younger but maybe that's because I'm older.

I think in general women age much better than men, which is the opposite of what we're told. That's mostly because women take much better care of themselves, whereas men seem to be very complacent about their looks.

StColumbofNavron · 06/07/2021 20:10

The most physically good looking, I mean almost beautiful I ever met was also the most boring man I ever met, so even though we went on a date I really didn’t find him attractive.

I honestly think my husband has. I mean he's no pin up, but he has aged well. Me on the other hand....
Zerogravity · 06/07/2021 20:21

Also having babies is hard on the body - mine has never been the same! Men don't have that problem, plus wrinkles and grey hair or loss of hair is perceived completely differently on men than women.

doesparentingsuck · 06/07/2021 20:25

@namcybotwinbloom

I never fancy anyone till I know them. I've had what people would term good looking partners and what people wouldn't.

I can look at people and see they are attractive etc but I don't fancy them until I get to know them. Till I click with them if that makes sense

This. I feel exactly the same. It used to be very different when I was younger - say under 25 but things change as you get older I think and mentally you think differently and understand it is not actually about looks (or is partly but that is only one part of attraction IMO)

This too, the most beautiful looking man I have seen or one of was so so attractive but started eying up other women on our date and turns out it wasn't a date at all he had invited me out to hell him speak English! (He was from overseas - and I'm not an English teacher!)

Put me right off he was a total knobhead.

Staffy1 · 06/07/2021 20:31

I think the same. The majority of men around here look like root vegetables. Lots of nice looking women, and I am definitely not gay. I have a bit of a cheek saying this as I am nothing special, but just noticed that on the whole, there are lots more attractive women than men.

GammyLeg · 06/07/2021 20:37

@Comedycook

I find there's not much centre ground in terms of men... they're either middle class wet blankets who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag or they're beer swilling oafs with the st georges flag as their fb profile pic!
This is definitely what I noticed about British men 😂

I disagree about men ageing better. Most of them tend to slump into middle age while women take better care of themselves and are more socially active. Huuge generalisation obviously. And I think it depends where you are - I think men in larger urban areas look a bit more polished.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 06/07/2021 20:43

I find foriegn men much more attractive than english men.But then I do like olive skin tone dark hair and eyes.
Men after 40 are not great tbh they let themselves go.There are very few men 40+ I'm attracted to and I'm 42 and find it hard finding men I'm attracted to in my age group.

Zerogravity · 06/07/2021 20:46

I think the downfall of many middle aged British men is the beer belly!

Ilovegreentomatoes · 06/07/2021 20:56

I think english men just don't have the good physical attributes that foriegn men do.

IcedPurple · 06/07/2021 21:02

"Foreign men"?

Do you mean Italian men? Or Korean? Or Scandinavian? Or American?

"Foreign" is rather a big place.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 06/07/2021 21:15

@IcedPurple more Mediterranean I guess and eastern European they are better groomed and more physically attractive. But that's just my opinion obviously.

znaika · 06/07/2021 21:21

I see good-looking men everyday as I work in central london and its pretty multicultural. Men here are often tall with long limbs and broad shoulders and in the UK they wear a full suit. Lots of chiseled cheekbones too. Tom Hiddlestone alikes ten a penny in the city. Med men often have beautiful faces but are often short with womanly bums.

znaika · 06/07/2021 21:22

You have never been to Russia or Ukraine 😂

This is too Greentoms
StColumbofNavron · 06/07/2021 21:24

I’ve been to Russia. I can’t say I noticed the men. But I do fancy Pushkin if that counts. The food was great.

I’m also in London and see men I could feasibly fancy most days.

StColumbofNavron · 06/07/2021 21:25

Except Anton, the barman in the hotel. He was lovely.
