She was a style icon yet she’s in one of those frumpy waist belts that were only in fashion briefly. The face does nothing to represent how beautiful she was. It’s too harsh.

Its a statue not a photograph

Bargebill19 · 01/07/2021 15:33

It’s what they wanted. But it is a bit ‘meh’.
Verdict: ok, but could have been better.

Gladiolys · 01/07/2021 15:33

Gosh it’s awful Shock

Caramellatteplease · 01/07/2021 15:34

I agree OP. It looks like a man.

LubaLuca · 01/07/2021 15:34

Don't think too hard about it. Why on earth would you be disappointed? This was never going to affect you.

GreenCrayon · 01/07/2021 15:34

There's a few of us on another thread about the statue saying similar. I think it really missed the mark and is very underwhelming.

HirplesWithHaggis · 01/07/2021 15:35

The boy looks like Obama.

colincarrot · 01/07/2021 15:35

It's ok..will and Harry though!

PurpleRainDancer · 01/07/2021 15:35

I was hoping for so much more, it’s terrible. She was a beauty and the whole thing looks odd. Very disappointing. But I hope her sons are pleased with it that’s all that matters.

RickiTarr · 01/07/2021 15:36

Why is she shepherding random but demographically diverse DC? It might have worked if they were toddlers and it was clearly “nursery assistant Di”.

She had so many highly characteristic mannerisms and poses they could have chosen from, even if faces are tricky.

Notaroadrunner · 01/07/2021 15:38

@Caramellatteplease

I agree OP. It looks like a man.
That's what I thought when I saw it.
RickiTarr · 01/07/2021 15:38

We should probably be more generous. The whole commission was a poisoned chalice, really.

Her “fountain” didn’t go well, her memorial fund sort of disintegrated into disagreement and litigation. Goodness knows figurative sculpture cannot be easy even when it’s a low profile job.

Freshprincess · 01/07/2021 15:39

It doesn’t really look much like her, though the outfit looks fine to me. It’s was her style.

Perhaps it’s from a photo they both liked of her.

ThursdayWeld · 01/07/2021 15:40

Statues are not photographs. They are commemorative.

It's impossible to create an absolute likeness in a statue. The idea is to catch the essence of a person. I like it.

RJnomore1 · 01/07/2021 15:40

I think that looks very like her 😳

Bargebill19 · 01/07/2021 15:41

Why does she have a girl and a boy beside her? Or is it supposed to show her caring for the worlds children and not Harry and William. ?

Ulna · 01/07/2021 15:42

It looks like her - but only if she had lived and had extensive plastic surgery and lip fillers.

MadisonAvenue · 01/07/2021 15:43

I think that facially she’s been made to look quite masculine.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 01/07/2021 15:44

It looks a bit - well heavy for her. She was very slim. Well I hope her kids like it anyway.

stairway · 01/07/2021 15:44

I would have put her in that land mine outfit she famously war.

GreenCrayon · 01/07/2021 15:45

It looks like there are actually 3 children but one is obscured by the girl.

It's all very strange and doesn't seem to make any sense. I can only assume they are meant to be the world's children but as a PP said toddlers or her own 2 boys would have been a better choice I think.

SpindleWhorl · 01/07/2021 15:46

It's supposed to be her at 60.

ShaneTheThird · 01/07/2021 15:47

I think it looks exactly like her. And she died 25 years ago that was her style in that era...

3peassuit · 01/07/2021 15:47

It’s OK but if they wanted to portray her in her prime, it would have looked better to have had jeans and a jacket. More of her land mines campaigner look. It as the cause she was most focused on at the end of her life.
