AIBU - Princess Diana new statue

She was a style icon yet she’s in one of those frumpy waist belts that were only in fashion briefly. The face does nothing to represent how beautiful she was. It’s too harsh.

Oh the eras - thank his I didn’t drop dead I’m the 1970s (and have a statue of me). Immortalised in flares and a sleeved blouse with hair like Fido dido...

Totally agree about the weird belt! The perspective of the girl is all wrong too, she looks like a shrunken adult next to her instead of a normal sized child.

The stance is weird - a sort of Wonderwoman pose. As if she were on a Marvel film poster as the female lead.

I wasn't sure what to expect but I do think it looks like her. The 3 children round her I'm not so sure about, perhaps W&H didn't want her alone?

Oh what a shame. I had high hopes for something more gloriously terrible, along the lines of ‘Diana and Dodi with an albatross in Harrods’.

Agree on shrunken adult. Statues of children often seem to have that look. It is unfortunately reminding me of Michael Jackson at the Brits when Jarvis ran on.

The jaw, cheeks and eyebrows are all wrong, brow too hard, jaw too narrow at the mid line and too square at the chin, and the cheeks are too puffy in front. I agree she also looks too masculine - she had a strong jaw, but in a feminine way. It looks like a totally different person.

I agree with you OP, I don't like it. Someone on the other thread said 'it looks a bit Soviet' and I think that's a fair comment, it does. Maybe it looks better in real life.

Whether it is what the statue is made of that is the problem, I don't know but it looks very harsh and dull, Diana's face looks masculine and of all the outfits Diana wore they chose that ensemble of clothes???

The garden looks fabulous but everything else done in memory of her seems to have failed spectacularly.

Indeed. I think they should have just kept it simple with a plaque and a tribute like a wishing well or something. The gardens are beautiful and the statue detracts from what is already a lovely place in her memory.

I’m not sure what the point is of the third child - they feel as though they are excluded…

The girl child is quite adult looking. - perhaps it is different in the flesh/metal?

As long as the boys approve then my opinion counts for nowt.

I confess to preferring the albatross one…

I just think the face should be softer and not to be in such a frumpy outfit. Small changes that would’ve made it better. She always seemed so smiley they didn’t capture that at all.

It’s ok I guess but it could have been so much better
