BBC Commentary is Awful

Oh my word!

Firstly, well done England. I'm not an England fan but wish them well.

But surely our license fee deserves better than the awful BBC coverage?

Much better than ITVs though!!

TemptedToSleepInTheShed · 29/06/2021 19:52

It’s nowhere near as bad as ITV though which seems to be some sort of project

Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 20:02

I think ITV is better. It is more balanced.

OP posts:
MojoMoon · 29/06/2021 20:17

Far better than ITV.

Just switch the sound off if you don't like it and do your own commentary?

Smartiepants79 · 29/06/2021 20:19

In what way is it awful?
I don’t know much about football and it sounds ok to me.

mrsbyers · 29/06/2021 20:20

Oh it’s a million times better than Ally Mccoist on ITV - he just talks absolute shite and constantly harks back to his playing career , sharing a room with Gazza blah blah blah

Uniontea · 29/06/2021 20:21

’It is more balanced.’

You’re complaining that the national broadcaster shows support for those nations?

TemptedToSleepInTheShed · 29/06/2021 20:22

Watch ITV then

Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 20:23

You’re complaining that the national broadcaster shows support for those nations?

I am complaining that the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation take their support of one nation to an extreme and talk the biggest load of shite ever.

@TemptedToSleepInTheShed

Watch ITV then
Ha at this

Yes a good idea all round

Bryonyshcmyony · 29/06/2021 20:25

God I wondered how long it would take for all the posts bashing football and/or England would appear

TheBobJog · 29/06/2021 20:27

It's many times better than ITV, although I do like Ian Wright.

You don’t think they did the same for Wales the other day?

Rubbish. Five years ago they were very vocal about Wales and I don’t recall many English people moaning about it. It’s hardly our fault if we are the only home nation remaining. Get the chip of your shoulder or turn it off.
Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 20:27

How is this bashing England?

England were good tonight and deserved to win. Still a valid point that the BBC commentary is woeful.

We all know that the BBC is biased. Its all we heard from most brexiteers for years.......

OP posts:
HeddaGarbled · 29/06/2021 20:30

Sour grapes.

LubaLuca · 29/06/2021 20:30

There is an option to put the radio commentary on over the TV coverage. I think you press the red button or something.

I've got to say I don't mind the BBC TV coverage. I usually like the pundits and the commentators are knowledgeable and quick thinking enough.

Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 20:31

@HeddaGarbled

Sour grapes.
Eh? Why is criticising the commentary sour grapes?

England have done well and you should be proud of how they played.

Are you not capable of separating the 2?

Sandsnake · 29/06/2021 20:32

It’s good, I think. Hugely better than ITV. Of course they’re going to support England, but I think that by and large it’s fair and not jingoistic. Seeing the footage of ex players leaping in the air when we scored was great and totally to get expected!

Thanks I might try that in future.

What's wrong with it? It was good commentary and the vx of them leaping up and down when Sterling scored was ace. I loved the montage at the end as well, felt quite emotional.

Uniontea · 29/06/2021 20:32

Have you heard Robbie Savage?

The BBC support the home nations as you’d expect.

The BBC football coverage is, as always, leagues above ITV’s.

I felt emotional too

So good to see

What didn’t you like though op? I can’t think of anything they said that was particularly bad

Palavah · 29/06/2021 20:34

What did you think was wrong with the commentary?

Certainly the coverage before and during the tournament so far has been anglo-centric but now that England is the only UK team left that's only reasonable.

Of course they should be supporting England. And I would be shocked if they didn't get excited.

I just think they go on too much at times and look to far in the future or 50+ years in the past.

It could be toned down.

I did feel really sorry for the wee girl supporting Germany who was crying.
