BBC Commentary is Awful

Oh my word!

Firstly, well done England. I'm not an England fan but wish them well.

But surely our license fee deserves better than the awful BBC coverage?

@Bryonyshcmyony

He was most definitely Scottish for the first three games
That's good to hear!

He is of course Scottish and British but it would be nice for him to remain British when he loses, just this once.

I do like Rio Ferdinand. Lineker I am not a fan of!

I actually burst out laughing at that little German football supporter. It makes such a change for England to do well.

Hercisback · 29/06/2021 21:22

There's been a lot of talk of England whilst watching the Sweden - Ukraine game.......

England are the only home nation left in the competition, of course they'll be talked about.

1happyhippie · 29/06/2021 21:25

The bbc are talking about England’s win in a tournament they are covering.
There’s only england left in it now so why wouldn’t they talk about them?

Iggi999 · 29/06/2021 21:25

@Majorfluff

Another Scot with a chip on the shoulder Hmm

Didn't someone analyse this theory once by comparing press coverage? I seem to recall that there was absolutely no difference in the amount of times Murray was described as Scottish or British, regardless of whether he won or lost.

I'm sure that theory was disproven - was it not?

Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 21:31

I need to check that out! I would be pleased if that was the case.

Struck me as perfectly acceptable. What exactly is your objection OP?
RubixRubicon · 29/06/2021 21:35

I think the BBC commentary knocks spots off ITV’s. I cannot bear Ian Wright since he acted like a pre pubescent schoolboy in IACGMOOH

WhatIsThisPlease · 29/06/2021 21:36

I thought it was great.

I actually had to mute the ITV commentating the other night. The woman with the southern accent was painful to listen to.

We do much better on BBC so let's hope ITV stick to Love Island for the rest of the tournament Smile

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 29/06/2021 21:41

@mrsbyers

Oh it’s a million times better than Ally Mccoist on ITV - he just talks absolute shite and constantly harks back to his playing career , sharing a room with Gazza blah blah blah
Grinthis made me laugh
Watchingyou2sleezes · 29/06/2021 21:44

I despise the BBC and fucking jug ears really gets on my tits.

There was much bemusement in my house when even I said "I'm glad this one is The BBC".
ITV have been wank.

sashagabadon · 29/06/2021 21:45

I thought it was great. So nice to see genuinely happy people. Excited now for England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I was thinking how good he looks as he's got older Confused
SofiaMichelle · 29/06/2021 21:47

ITV is 10 times worse.

They used to have Andy Townsend with his bloody awful Cockney/London accent. Thankfully they binned him off.

Now they've got a female commentator with the same accent. I honestly couldn't listen to it last night.

"Ar fink ee got de bow dare" excuse me? (I think he got the ball, there).

Argh!

gabsdot45 · 29/06/2021 22:20

If you have access to it the coverage on RTE, the Irish broadcaster is very good. They've shown every game and have had a variety of presenters and commentators. Including several women.
The fact that Ireland aren't in the competition means that it's very unbiased.

BackforGood · 29/06/2021 22:25

Are you going to let us know what it is that was so terrible, OP, as so many have asked ?

I mean, I can't stand Alan Shearer, and I'm no fan of Alex Scott, but despite them the BBC coverage is always 100x better than ITV.

TheMadGardener · 29/06/2021 22:31

All national commentaries are going to be biased! Of course the BBC team want England/home nations to win. If you listened to the German broadcaster I'm sure they would be biased towards the Germans. Some national broadcasters get far more excited than ours - have you heard Brazilian TV commentators going nuts when Brazil scores a goal???

@1happyhippie

You do sound quite bitter *@Wakeupin2022* I have a Scottish brother in law, who told me growing up they were told they support two teams. Scotland and whoever england plays against! I thought that was a bit sad to be honest.

The bbc commentary beats itv. But both have been getting behind england.
Scotland and Wales are out so why shouldn’t they?

I have known many Scots with the same attitude. They don't care who wins as long as it's not England.

Well we won tonight. Sorry and all that..... Wink

Bit late posting on here as I just got back from the pub, where I watched ENGLAND beat GERMANY!!!!!!! The atmosphere in there was electric, the feelgood factor was off the scale, and it made me proud to be ENGLISH.

Yeah, I said it. And anyone who is Scottish or Welsh would have said they are proud to be Scottish or Welsh if THEY were in the quarter finals of the Eurocup. So yep, I am proud to be ENGLISH. Grin

This is probably the best random abbreviation I've seen on mumsnet. No idea what it means!

Emma Hayes has been amazing. Properly pointing out how people have created space, how teams are defending and attacking. She's been one of the best pundits as she actually gives expertise on what is happening.

And it's nice hearing different accents

Vaterinadf · 29/06/2021 23:41

Did you see Sweden-Ukraine

“It’s getting quite dark. I was out quite late last night.....jogging”

FlaminEckVera · 29/06/2021 23:42

@user1471517900

Urgh I LOATHE Emma Hayes 'commentary.' She just rambles and waffles. Mind numbing she is. I hope to fuck that she doesn't commentate on England vs Ukraine!
