BBC Commentary is Awful

Oh my word!

Firstly, well done England. I'm not an England fan but wish them well.

But surely our license fee deserves better than the awful BBC coverage?

ITV coverage … if I hear Ally McCoist saying “yes Clive” “you’re absolutely right Clive” “good observation Clive” … I’ll put my foot through the screen … WE KNOW HE IS CALLED CLIVE

SlipperyDippery · 29/06/2021 20:35

@Wakeupin2022

You’re complaining that the national broadcaster shows support for those nations?

I am complaining that the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation take their support of one nation to an extreme and talk the biggest load of shite ever.

This is where the sour grapes comes in.

If you don’t find Jermaine Jenas’s commentary especially insightful that’s one thing, but here you seem to be complaining that on the night England played Germany the BBC pundits were supporting England

Floralnomad · 29/06/2021 20:37

The BBC coverage is much better than the coverage on ITV , better commentary and better pundits .

MarshaBradyo · 29/06/2021 20:38

I thought they got the tone right

This was a big deal and will make many feel happier after a bad year or so

I’m glad they got the significance

Uniontea · 29/06/2021 20:40

Everyone felt sorry for the child crying in the crowd including the commentator who made a point of saying that you never want to see that. With knock out football there’s always going to be a child crying.

Newrumpus · 29/06/2021 20:41

Awful does not mean ‘It could be toned down’!

Of course it could be, but why should it be?

Yeah that wasn't a criticism of the commentary BTW 😃

And quite often adults too!
Uniontea · 29/06/2021 20:42

Fair enough.

MadMadMadamMim · 29/06/2021 20:44

Ah. You're Scottish?

Explains the griping. Agree with others that of course the pundits - mostly ex-England players - are supporting England. Why would they need to tone it down?

FlaminEckVera · 29/06/2021 20:44

@Wakeupin2022 YABU. BBC is better than ITV IMO.

I am not keen on ITV's Eurocup commentary. And IMO, Emma Hayes is the worst of the lot, and puts me off watching. I hope to God she isn't commentating during the next England match, because I will have to mute the TV!

Exactly
Bryonyshcmyony · 29/06/2021 20:46

Scottish. Aha.

Yep, it could be because the OP is Scottish. I know someone from Portugal, and someone from France. And the bitching and griping from them tonight, (on twitter,) sneering, and saying 'England will fail next time,' is making them come across as bitter and spiteful, and jealous, because neither one of them got through to the quarter finals.

And they can't see it. Wink

Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 20:54

Flamin I thought after the Scotland game that England would probably be out in this round.

I was wrong and they are definitely getting better as the games go on.

I think they have a reasonable chance, especially since all their games are at Wembley.

Tonight will be a big confidence booster and I wish them well. I won't be supporting them, but I don't particularly want them to lose either.

OP posts:
Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 20:55

Actually that's wrong isn't it - they are not at Wembley next Blush

OP posts:
Newrumpus · 29/06/2021 21:02

OP - can you explain what was awful in your opinion apart from it could have been toned down and they talked about the past?

You do sound quite bitter @Wakeupin2022
I have a Scottish brother in law, who told me growing up they were told they support two teams.
Scotland and whoever england plays against!
I thought that was a bit sad to be honest.

The bbc commentary beats itv. But both have been getting behind england.
Scotland and Wales are out so why shouldn’t they?

whynotwhatknot · 29/06/2021 21:07

not as bad as john inverdale on the tennis-utter shite

I've not watched Wimbledon yet. I am guessing Andy is British at the moment?

Bryonyshcmyony · 29/06/2021 21:14

He was most definitely Scottish for the first three games

Peanutbuttercupisyum · 29/06/2021 21:14

Obviously the national broadcaster is going to support England against Germany!!! It would be totally bizarre to have it any other way!

Wakeupin2022 · 29/06/2021 21:16

Where did I say they shouldn't support England? They have been throughout the competition even when the other home nations were still in the competition.

There's been a lot of talk of England whilst watching the Sweden - Ukraine game.......

I can understand a bit, but these programmes are broadcast UK wide.

OP posts:
pickingdaisies · 29/06/2021 21:16

I like the pundits, (especially Jermaine Jenas Blush) but the actual in game commentary does get a bit Alan partridge. Yes it's better than itv but that's not really saying much. Five live commentary is good though.
