Thousands of people are gathering for the Euros and at Edgebasten.

Pissed people hugging and dancing in pubs when someone scores

Boris and his pals flying in from Amber countries had a lovely garden party.

BUT weddings are super spreaders apparently and it's looking like we'll miss out on having friends and family at our OUTDOOR wedding by 3 days if pushback rumours are true.

250,000 couples are waiting for tomorrow's announcement. Could these businesses are facing closure..

Got married earlier this month and had an absolutely beautiful and amazing day. Wasn't prepared to wait around! Anyone hesitating I'd recommend just doing it (although I appreciate it's not for everyone)

Workyticket · 13/06/2021 16:06

@bloodywhitecat

Covid took the wedding we wanted but ultimately, very soon, cancer will take DH's life. Covid took his rapid diagnosis and it is still taking his right to good treatment. I am angry about a lot more than just weddings.
I'm so sorry you're going through such a horrendous experience 💔

We have big families. Our immediate family would take up more than the 30 spaces - without children.

We'll be spending ££££ on what I know won't be a great day. I'm happy for those who've had small weddings and loved them though

You know your wedding day won’t be a great day? 🙄.

How many weeks of these celebrations will there be again?

*G7 Summit

Canapés
Bbq
Mingling
Drinks
Pats on the back

Sounds not too dissimilar to a wedding*

Thing is though this is one event. If they lift the restrictions on weddings there will be 10,000s of these all over the country.

So whatever risk attached to G7 X however many 10,000

traumatisednoodle · 13/06/2021 16:18

and WTF in Hyde Park ?

Workyticket · 13/06/2021 16:22

The football celebrations in pubs / parks / Gardens aren't singular events though are they?

They're going to continue throughout the summer.

Pissed people jumping about and hugging each other.

I think this is from 2018...

It might be - I'm just stalking the Internet whilst slightly hungover and with a massive knot of anxiety in my stomach

You can still get married though so it's not as if your life is on hold. The marriage bit is the important bit, not the party afterwards

Workyticket · 13/06/2021 16:27

Apologies for the unsubstantiated videos. Not helping my own case am i?

Sorry - I'm just a ball of anxiety at the minute

I think they all had Covid tests at Wembley ?( might be wrong)

Echobelly · 13/06/2021 16:31

We too have a family event, DD's bat mitzvah, postponed from last year, now on 26 June (we got assigned that date months before 21st date was given by government) - and these would fall under same rules as weddings if any exceptions.

Have planned for outdoor party of 30 or 60 guests, but pretty much always expected it to be 30 (briefly had hopes of 60 about 4 weeks ago, but when variant trajectory became apparent reckoned even Johnson must blink).

I think not changing is ultimately the right decision, though it is annoying about pubs/football etc. It might have been good to allow bigger outdoor dos, as that's known to be safer and I'm sure a lot of people have planned them to be on safe side, but I doubt concessions will be made.

The synagogue plans to go with government rule, so if they don't go beyond current I'm kind of relieved as while, on one level, it would be lovely to celebrate with more people, I'd also be a bit uncomfortable with it, whereas the way they currently do services allows for up to 50 people in a large space with social distancing, masks and proper ventilation, so would be pretty safe, even if someone there were infectious and I think it's safer to stick with that for now. Numbers may be looking OK in terms of hospitalisation, but we don't know if it could reach a point where the dam may break, and I wouldn't want to worry our event was part of that.

Our guests are happy to be tested. Most test 2x a week for work anyway.

Rhe fans singing, dancing and hugging in the pubs haven't had to.

I understand it must be so frustrating for you. But it has to be a single rule, so your wedding guests may all test and distance, but others won't. There will always be people breaking tbe rules, no one can stop that, doesn't mean the rules are wrong however.

It's galling because the people watching the match in pubs up and down the country are breaking the rules

They're singing, dancing and hugging. The very things we want.

Right now my main worry is whether either of my kids or anyone in our close family gets a contact at school after Tuesday - it won't happen at all if it's anyone in our household, or we might have to do it without one of our siblings' families. :(

I'm not sure but I think the UK government only requires the, as described by US medical authorities, fairly useless and inaccurate LFTs. Other countries require PCR. I could be wrong though. Maybe we do ask for PCR?

It would have much better, more sensible, if we had pandemic border control with proper quarantine, rather than domestic restrictions. Why did Boris choose to import (and let spread) the Delta strain? Why are our borders still largely wide open - ready to welcome any and all new strains.

As an aside. The G7 gang probably don't have the same risk levels as the rest of us. Remember the very expensive treatment given to Trump? We won't all get access to that but I've no doubt world leaders would.

Well yes obviously, however that doesn't really alter whether or not OP's (and thousands of others) wedding should go ahead.

DeathByWalkies · 13/06/2021 17:27

The difference between sport and weddings is gender and money.

Sport is full of men and big businesses.

Wedding businesses are almost always small, disproportionately run by women, and the purchasing decisions are made by women - the brides.

The political decisions are predominantly made by men; men who are friends with other men in big business.

Workyticket · 13/06/2021 17:27

Standing drinks receptions at weddings are currently banned. However politicians can have a drinks reception at a bbq.

I'm really struggling to get my head around the unfairness

It would help. We're still pretty much wide open to any and all new strains. Which would make more likely even more delays to things like weddings.

Women play sport too. Including football.
