Or bother entering obviously.

It’s a humiliation and everyone hates us so we hardly get any votes. None this year due to Brexit and the Covid vaccine probably.

Poor James Sad. He certainly didn’t deserve NIL points!

You could send Adele, Dua Lipa and, Calvin Harris as a Supergroup, we’d still come last.

Thebookswereherfriends · 23/05/2021 07:50

My daughter and I only watched a few of the songs, but the uk entry was far better than any of the ones we watched.

Dongdingdong · 23/05/2021 07:55

It’s the most cringeworthy programme I’ve ever had the misfortune to watch. All the other countries appear to take it seriously too, which is even more embarrassing.

JocastaNu · 23/05/2021 07:57

Our song was shite. It really was. Other countries send their best and we send x-factor wannabees. James wasn't even in tune for half his song. It may have been better if he had sent someone else to sing it. He's a good songwriter but he's not a performer.

That being said, the fact that a tap dancing hand flipping us all off and a country in the midst of committing genocide did better than us is a little worrying.

Anycrispsleft · 23/05/2021 07:57

I really liked the UK's song (radio 2 have played it in heavy rotation for about the past 8 weeks) but on the night the bloke sounded nervous and pitchy. So I can see why it wouldn't have done well. I do think that most of Europe hates the UK as well at the moment though.

thecatsatonthewall · 23/05/2021 08:01

Before people get hung up on the UK getting zero points, that was from both professional and the public vote.

Germany, a stalwart of the EU got just 3 points, crappy songs get crappy scores.

Though we could, like we've gone and done with the European City of Culture, just have our own UKVision song contest?

Billybagpuss · 23/05/2021 08:02

@MotherOfGodHoulYerWhisht

Remember the year Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber got involved? Everybody got excited that we were in with a real chance, this was our year etc... 👎🏻 Europe hate us.
Yes but that song was dull and predictable, don’t get me wrong I love ALW but that was not his best attempt.

We need to have a national competition to create a song and perform that is as outrageous and fun as possible, not in the usual genre.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 23/05/2021 08:03

@ATieLikeRichardGere

Guys it’s not the song. People really hate the UK that much I’m afraid!
I agree with that. The UK song wasn't the worse by a mile, and recieved nothing. Why do we put forward crap? Can't they get some of the popular British really good songwriters to put a song forward. That a a decent act to sing it. That poor guy last night having to brave out no points. Can I also ask, why the hell Flo Rida gor to be on for San Marino. He's from Florida I thought you had to be from that country, otherwise it's a free for all. We could in theory pay someone like Shakira and we'd walk it.
Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 23/05/2021 08:04

UK did not send someone that can perform. It is a show so needs people that can perform. It’s way too easy to moan but where was the show? Amanda Holden should apologise for her embarrassing ignorance of languages and was upstaged by a 10 year from Greece (who brought joy to my heart). Let Wales enter for UK next year. Let’s get a harp on there, some dragons, someone who can belt out a good one. We’d rock it.

Collaborate · 23/05/2021 08:05

It's cheap for 3 hours of prime time tv. And the UK viewing figures are enormous.

Peachee · 23/05/2021 08:08

If one of the top acts in our country represented us we still wouldn’t win because it’s all political. We need to leave that shit behind now. It’s way past it’s sell by date now.

Rosehip10 · 23/05/2021 08:09

Why are we giving money to the European broadcasting union anyway? Waste of tv license payers money, and yes sod the song contest.

PiccalilliChilli · 23/05/2021 08:11

Time to Leave!

What do you expect we are a bunch of inward looking, self-centred selfish wankers.

We are a global laughing stock hoping to trade on our past - but that being built on racism, rape, stealing and murder - we seem to have not realised we are a small piss pot national who relies on imports.

Let's hope the world keeps pissing on Johnsons chips.

Ifailed · 23/05/2021 08:14

It's Pantomime and the UK play the villain, it's been like that for years.

HelpMeh · 23/05/2021 08:14

I'm amazed anyone still watches it to be honest.

SarahBellam · 23/05/2021 08:16

I don’t think we can blame the UK’s failure on Brexit or Covid. The song and performance were dreadful. He looked like he’d pitched up to clean the main stage at Glastonbury wearing a zipped up bin liner and been persuaded to sing a song. He sounded like a Poundland James Morrison. I half expected Chris Martin to make an entry half way through. Other countries brought their A game - well known singers, exciting costumes, great dancing, brilliant lighting and special effects. Ours had nothing. It was like we couldn’t be bothered. It was basically an English version of My Lovely Horse (original mix).

Doomsdayisstillcoming · 23/05/2021 08:16

@TellySavalashairbrush

We definitely need to bow out. £500k is £49000 too much for us to contribute to this political farce. Never been the same since Terry Wogan stopped hosting it anyway.
£451000 it is then.
thecatsatonthewall · 23/05/2021 08:16

@MotherOfGodHoulYerWhisht

We’ve had good songs in past years though and still done dismally. Europe hate us. They’ve always hated us.
Lol That sounds really childish.

I thought the europeans admired us for leaving the EU was about to implode and we would lead Europe to the sun lit uplands?

It was a crappy song but easy to blame Europe, even Israel couldn't vote for us.

We won euro vision in the past, so you re comment just smacks of sour grapes.

thewooster · 23/05/2021 08:17

I think we should continue on each year with a naff act to see how long we can keep getting nil points. Brits have never taken Eurovision as seriously as our Euro neighbours. I sometimes think Germany are similar to us too.

What we need is a friend like Greece/Cyprus who give each other 12 points no matter what, year in year out. Besties forever and will keep us from nil points.

nancywhitehead · 23/05/2021 08:19

I think it would be sad if the UK stopped participating.

Yes, we've had Brexit and a lot of other crap these past couple of years, and to say we're not exactly popular with many Europeans is an understatement.

But we are still geographically a part of Europe, and even if we are not in the European Union anymore we are still closely allied to it. A lot of people in the UK feel very much a part of Europe, despite recent political events.

I think it's a good chance to be involved in something that is just fun and good hearted for once and it would be a shame to take it away. £500k is not a lot of money at all in the scheme of things. It's a drop in the ocean.

velvetcurtains · 23/05/2021 08:22

To be fair, we could have the best known British talent with a really catchy song and we’d still never make the left side of the scoreboard.

Italy might have won last night but given what I’ve seen on Twitter makes me wonder if they’ll be disqualified

Doomsdayisstillcoming · 23/05/2021 08:25

I love how this offends people.

Who cares!

We are unpopular for a reason.

Schmoana · 23/05/2021 08:25

I think the UK song is a really good pop song.. His performance wasn’t the best but I loved his enthusiasm and positivity, and reaction when the viewers vote came in.

There is no way it was the worst song. They do hate us and have done for a few years (although this is the first time I’ve watched it for years).

Maybe we should have a referendum?Wink

RedRiverShore · 23/05/2021 08:26

The other countries try a lot harder than us, most have to get through the semi finals, we just send a bloke that can sing a bit. It's not like the old days when Cliff, Lulu and Sandie Shaw did it
