To think the UK should not fund the Eurovision Song Contest?

Or bother entering obviously.

It’s a humiliation and everyone hates us so we hardly get any votes. None this year due to Brexit and the Covid vaccine probably.

Poor James Sad. He certainly didn’t deserve NIL points!

Seriously. I'm the least musical person ever and even I could hear he was flat.

Duckypoohs · 23/05/2021 03:00

We could easily send a good song, we have lots of talent. We might not win but we would do well with a song with effort.

Duckypoohs · 23/05/2021 03:01

Agree.
NiceGerbil · 23/05/2021 03:01

Everyone has different tastes! I liked him and Lithuania and Russia

Duckypoohs · 23/05/2021 03:06

How do you think he was good nice gerbil?

youshallnotpass9 · 23/05/2021 03:08

Oh and Amanda Holden did us no bloody favours, but I appreciate she came on after the voting was finished

Serpenta · 23/05/2021 03:12

Fab, the latest thing for people to project their victim mentality on to.

Duckypoohs · 23/05/2021 03:13

Haha so weird the points

Duckypoohs · 23/05/2021 03:14

UK at the bottom but highest points

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 23/05/2021 03:14

I think the real question is yes the British entry was not great but is it deserving a big fat zero like no other? Surely relatively some of the other entries (in the finals) must have been as bad if not worst and would a proven popular talent like Adele still score no points to suggest/confirm that this is a closed shop with scoring determined by non musical factors making a political statement.

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/05/2021 03:22

Yes he did. He was breathless and flat. The song may have been ok but there was no great production to make it stand out. We were the worst because everyone else, at least sang in tune.

mimi0708 · 23/05/2021 03:41

Tbf ours was really flat and easily forgettable... there were some really great and unique songs from this year.

Crazyhouse123 · 23/05/2021 06:59

@aquashiv

It's a pile of shite. Ireland were sick to death of winning...costs a fortune to host.
Oh bring back My Lovely Horse that's what I say Grin

Best. Father. Ted. Episode. Ever.

JellyNo15 · 23/05/2021 07:11

I agree we either need to send the best act we can or a piss take. If we are by far and away the best then the other countries voting will make them look stupid or we just have fun with a novelty act.

MyOtherProfile · 23/05/2021 07:14

When you can predict exactly who certain countries will give their 12 points to before the contest even starts, there's no way the voting is fair. Sadly the UK has no friends to even give us 1 vote any more.
I'm looking at you, Greece and Cyprus / Serbia and North Macedonia / Bulgaria and Moldova.

There were other flat and forgettable songs too. Somehow they managed to get beyond nul points.
WilyKitWilyKat · 23/05/2021 07:16

I think we should take our ball home too.

MiddleParking · 23/05/2021 07:22

Surely, surely you are not seriously bothered about how many points we got in Eurovision.

Zzelda · 23/05/2021 07:24

Eurovision has always been a bit weird. I remember in the years when we were producing meaningless variants on "Boom bang a bang" thinking that it was strange that we weren't just putting forward people like the Beatles every year - there was no attempt actually to put up our best quality songs and singers. But at least at that time we did nominate good quality, tried and tested singers and groups and we simply don't bother any more. It's not surprising that the rest of Europe is unimpressed.

Grumblesigh · 23/05/2021 07:25

The UK didn't deserve any points for the quality of the song - it was a dull song, poorly performed. The zero was earned.

SinkGirl · 23/05/2021 07:28

@ATieLikeRichardGere

Guys it’s not the song. People really hate the UK that much I’m afraid!
Disagree.

I’m a huge Eurovision fan, haven’t missed a year since we were a kid. Our entry this year was a shocker.

Compare it to the handful of countries who got the vast majority of the points.

We could do okay if we tried.

(I’m still gutted about France and Iceland this morning. Both robbed.)

newnortherner111 · 23/05/2021 07:31

I think it should be on a commercial tv channel. I expect large amounts of advertising and programme sponsorship money could be found. Even if there was no UK entry I think there would be a similar size UK audience.

SinkGirl · 23/05/2021 07:33

There were other flat and forgettable songs too. Somehow they managed to get beyond nul points.

Germany’s entry was neither and got very few points. But it was shit.

There weren’t any other entries in the final as poor as ours. They at least considered what a Eurovision audience responds to. And there were actually quite a few really strong entries that got the vast majority of the vote.

If we want to do well in Eurovision we need better songs. We have won more recently than say France, and some countries enter every year despite never having won.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/05/2021 07:39

I think each song should be in the county's 'Native Language' as it was prior to 1999.

... like the old ladies from Russia in 2012,

... and Netta from Israel in 2018 (if that was the native language or any language),

... and commentated by Jack Dee, perhaps he could stir things up a bit?

LemonRoses · 23/05/2021 07:49

It’s a pity we couldn’t have proper Eurovision parties, but still better than listening to the daily Boris propaganda. Better costumes than Johnson’s as well.
500k is nothing compared to the monies given via corruption to Tory/Johnson donors or the wasted 39 Billion on track and trace. It certainly brings more people pleasure.

Iceland were robbed and Norway didn’t do as well as I’d hoped. They were both pure Eurovision. Loved Ukraine - she looked slightly scary and thought France was good but not Eurovision enough.

I wasn’t keen on Italy.
