To want a bidet?

I know this is grim but help settle an argument!

We're remodelling the bathroom and I would like a bidet because I have Crohn's disease and frankly when it's awful I can't use too much loo roll so I'm having 10/15 showers a day to feel clean it's either a bidet or a washing loo I need to not feel horrendous.

DH thinks the idea of a bidet is gross and a bum washing loo is ridiculous because they're so expensive but it's something I need to cope with my illness

Aibu to not back down on this and just tell him we're getting a bidet and to grow up?

I grew up with them, they can be very practical. Very useful in your situation.

CointreauVersial · 22/05/2021 22:51

YANBU

If you were in a wheelchair and needed an adapted toilet, would he object because it looked gross and was expensive? It sounds like a very real requirement that will make a lot of difference to you. Stand your ground.

TheQueef · 22/05/2021 22:51

Shattaf/Muslim tap.
Game changer for me.

BeetyAxe · 22/05/2021 22:51

YANBU, get whatever you need to make life easier. Flowers for you, I’m sure it can be very difficult to manage.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/05/2021 22:52

Yanbu. I'd love a bidet . I use it if they have one in a hotel.

Shmithecat2 · 22/05/2021 22:52

How about a hose? Something like this? We had one installed in our bathrooms in the UK after living in the ME for years. Much kinder to your bottom and saves so much loo paper.

PS Your DH is an inconsiderate arse.

I’ve got a bidet. It’s great for keeping clean.

I want a Japanese toilet/toilet seat

Verbena87 · 22/05/2021 22:57

I don’t have chrons and would love a bidet. Much more eco friendly, and I can’t get why people think having an actual wash is ‘gross’ but wiping with paper not.

Also great post-shag for not waking up all sticky and horrid.

All round good idea if you ask me.

TheSpottedZebra · 22/05/2021 22:58

Yes to shattaf/ bum gun.
The future (but very much the present for many).

They're really quite common in Muslim households in the UK, and utterly the norm in many countries.

RickJames · 22/05/2021 23:00

I have IBS and a bidet! If I only had toilet paper and wipes I would get a really sore arse on days when I poop a lot - I imagine it's worse for you with Crohns. I really hope your DH can be persuaded- it's not a luxury but a necessity to keep you healthy, physically and mentally. Those hoses that Muslim people get are pretty good too and don't require extra space. I'd have one of those if I couldn't have a bidet.

Yes - all of this! I would love a bidet and think it's quite obviously a more hygienic choice so I don't know why (some, British) people get weird about them.

Do it OP Flowers

Absolutely. Much better than a bidet. You’ll never go back.
IslandLulu · 22/05/2021 23:06

Get one!

FrozenVag · 22/05/2021 23:10

Omg you need a Japanese toilet, they’re electronic bidets

My friends just got one and omg you feel so clean

It sits on top of the toilet so you buy the toilet seat

Washloo - google them - welsh company

HumunaHey · 22/05/2021 23:10

I always picture a bidet in my dream house.

I still get paranoid when on my period and would love a quick way to freshen up without having a full on shower.

Ronnii · 22/05/2021 23:40

I see no problem with a bidet, or a hose type attachment for the toilet. I'm considering it for rinsing washable nappies mainly.

If it's an option that helps you I think that is a very important reason to get one. Waste of money to remodel without getting want you want.

A bum washing loo. Amazing. I loved that week in Taiwan. There was even a loo and poo themed restaurant there, too.

Cryalot2 · 22/05/2021 23:53

You need a bidet, bumgun or one of those toilets that wash and dry and goodness knows what else. It is for your health. It should be non questionable, he should happily get it for you..
Flowers from another bowel sufferer.

thisisbull · 23/05/2021 00:28

Great glad to know I'm not being unreasonable! He can swivel! I'd do this in a heartbeat for him. Off to Google bum gun!

Carbara · 23/05/2021 00:33

Thelnebriati · 23/05/2021 00:38

TheQueef · 23/05/2021 00:41
