Or do you know someone that is? I'm curious how many real life people are actually on it.

I'm not a journo, the Daily mail is a shit rag.

OP posts:
Smurfsarethefuture · 22/05/2021 13:50

I can see how there's a market though — I was on University Challenge, and you'd be surprised (or maybe not) how many men commented on my voice and appearance on Twitter/Facebook/Youtube. When somebody said they'd pay to hear me read the phonebook, I'm pretty sure it was hyperbole, but perhaps I could have paid off my student loan doing that! It's very much the thin end of the wedge though, I know.

Have you thought about reading audio books?

@debbrianna

Is it the same in some way? Exploiting women ? I cant work it out

therocinante · 22/05/2021 14:07

None of the women I know on OF try and recruit others. In fact, the one I know who's just bought a house in cash still regularly warns others that it's hard work and not to think they'll get rich quick... Hardly an MLM model.

Also, her subscribers are over 60% women, as it is for a few other OF workers she knows. So it's more women than men getting their kicks.

IJustWantSomeBees · 22/05/2021 14:15

@nevernotstruggling

I wonder if it will become a question in the job centre....but have you tried onlyfans?
"What are you, some sort of benefit scrounger? Go to your local brothel and put in an honest day's work, Female. What's that, you heard we have some accounting, IT, and administrative jobs going? Sorry Female, but we need to keep those jobs open for the men. After all, they aren't as lucky as you females who can always fall back on sex work and become boss babes!"
LexMitior · 22/05/2021 15:38

To your friends;

"Have you heard about Only Fans? I've got a plastic arse replacement for my self esteem. And I've bought a house. Tell your daughters to leave school immediately."

cazisalittlenuts · 22/05/2021 16:18

@Susannahmoody

People who aren't doing porn on OF - what are they actually doing??
OF is becoming increasingly popular within the gaming community as a way of supplementing their income, by taking pictures of things like their cosplay outfits they have recreated from popular video games (such as Final Fantasy - a popular rpg/mmo, and world of warcraft) and anime shows. One of my friends, who has a regular job as a physical therapist in the states, actually posts free flow dance vids, cosplay pics using outfits she has made for her streams (think dancers from mainstream games such as just dance) and even mountain biking. OF is not just sex acts, porn and nudes.

Of course the fact that people do every day things on only fans that arent exploitative to women, is far overshadowed by the fury that a woman or man would dare to sell nudes, not just on MN, but many other places too.

cazisalittlenuts · 22/05/2021 16:20

And to clarify, I meant the fury on MN and other places that people might sell lewd shots on only fans, not that they were selling them on MN.

Harriedharriet · 22/05/2021 18:33

@FireWafer

I think there are some really judgy comments on here. I know a couple of people who are on there and they make pretty good money. It is not porn at all. One is a single mum who is just desperately trying to provide for her children and works 2 other jobs as well as posting on there. I take my hat off to her! What she chooses to do behind closed doors and non of anyone elses business. If I didn't look like miss piggy I'd be up for it but alas I am chubby and fart too much!
But it is not behind closed doors......
Tehmina23 · 22/05/2021 18:49

If the average earning on OF is only £200 a month I may as well do 2 extra 7.5 hour Sunday HCA shifts a month at the hospital- at least I get to keep my clothes on.

terrywynne · 22/05/2021 19:13

@cazisalittlenuts and then there's the cosplayers doing "lewds" of their cosplays on OF (pretty easy with the way women are depicted in many games and anime) and you're back to young women selling nudes to make money.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/05/2021 19:14

" I know a couple of people who are on there and they make pretty good money. It is not porn at all."

What is it then?
What do these people do on there?

User135644 · 22/05/2021 20:46

There's something very Last Days of Rome about it all. What a decadent society we have.

User135644 · 22/05/2021 20:53

@Mulletsaremisunderstood

IJustWantSomeBees Further, violent and degrading porn first started becoming popular in the 70s, at the same time that women were gaining the legal right to work the same jobs as men. Men were LIVID that women were being given a seat at the table. They hated having to show respect to women in the workplace, so they would smile during the day then go home at night and watch violent porn of women being 'punished' to release the rage they had pent up during the day. To this day, men still hate seeing women at the table. The most pessimistic part of me believes that this new agenda of getting as many girls/women into sex work as possible is men's new way of keeping us from having a seat at the table. They can no longer keep us pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen, so siphening as many of us as possible into sex work is the new route of ensuring female subjugation and submission. This is very important too, since we are statistically out-performing them in education and the workplace.

Yes I agree. It's depressing. It's just another way to keep us down.

Nobody is forcing most of these women to do anything, they choose to set up an OF of their own free will, pretty much for the lure of easy money.

The majority of students now are women, younger women in their 20's now out earn men of the same age. The whole idea of women being oppressed and downtrodden doesn't wash with the age groups that dominate OF.

Chailatteplease · 22/05/2021 20:58

@IJustWantSomeBees

Forgot to add: no sick leave, no maternity leave, no job security, etc.
Same as most other self employed roles then Hmm
Chailatteplease · 22/05/2021 21:00

@Tehmina23

Don’t know about that. A friend of mine has just bought her second property, putting a 70k deposit down from earnings in the last year.
User135644 · 22/05/2021 21:01

@beguilingeyes

God this is so depressing and yet so familiar.

In pre-internet days all of these arguments used to apply to page 3 girls. Every girl wanted to do it...it was just harmless fun...empowering..good money etc.

That's an interesting point because the newspapers have put a stop to this over the last decade or so - as if to say society and the media is a lot more mature now than when we had topless page 3 girls - when in reality it's a lot worse with social media.
IJustWantSomeBees · 22/05/2021 21:09

Same as most other self employed roles then

I've already addressed this point, read the thread properly.

User135644 · 22/05/2021 21:19

@dayslikethese1

The thing that concerns me though is; if sex work is just work (as we are often told) and is getting more and more normalised over time, how long before the DWP compel women to take on sex work as that's what is available to them. I could envisage a future where that happens when you try and claim UC as a jobseeker or even if you can't work a 'normal' job due to health conditions etc.
It's probably seen by the government as a good way to keep the benefits bill down/create more tax payers.
User135644 · 22/05/2021 21:32

@Lala134

this society is discusting. Young girls being taught all they are worth is to be used for a fuck then discarded for another dumb girl who is ok pissing on the floor and being paid £50 quid for it on OF. Young girls seeing constant sexualised content on social media/TV/music. Women having to look 'fuckable' or they are worthless. Women butchering themslves with BBL, lip filler, etc to all look like some ridicuous caricature posing and taking pictures of themslves all day long admiring themselves. What every happened to humility? Why is vanity and porongraphy celebrated? I would rather live in a dustbin than sell my body. You are degrading what it means to be a woman, you are ruining sex and intimate relationships. Why do people have no respect, morals or class these days?. If you cannot see how pornography/ only fans/ sex 'work' is ruining society and warpings mens views on women, if you cant see how disrespectful it is to women then you are extremely naive and stupid and to call yourself 'empowered'? you have got to be fucking kidding me. I have every right to judge since those who have no morals and promote this discutsing ideology that women are worth nothing but to be used for a quick fuck and can be bought and paid for and deserve no respect or care. I wish peope would think of how there selfish actions for some money so they can buy a new bag or some other pathetic materialistc thing should think how they are effecting society as a whole promoting vanity, promiscuity, a fake image of women, demaning and degrading women.
Agree, and on the other hand what's driving it? Sad, pathetic, lonely, worthless men who have to pay to get a woman to talk to them.
madesofeastwich · 22/05/2021 22:55

@WorraLiberty - I pick things up with my feet (that's not sarcasm, that's genuinely what I do!) who knew my bizarrely long toes would come in handy one day?

ShrikeAttack · 23/05/2021 02:33

@madesofeastwich, so you enjoy pervy blokes looking at your feet? Why? Why encourage that?

It's not ok js it?

I'm not interested in kinks. That's a conversation you need to have with a therapist, not a 'sex worker'.

I don't think that twisted ideas of sexuality are women's job to provide.

ShrikeAttack · 23/05/2021 02:39

I actually feel that I want to shout 'I'm Kink negative', fuck off pervos. Just bugger off with your nonsense.

ShrikeAttack · 23/05/2021 02:40

Or see a professional.

AdjustableAssholeSettings · 23/05/2021 08:50

I feel the same as ShrikeAttack.

apalledandshocked · 23/05/2021 10:07

I dont think its fair to castigate women for "wanting to buy lots of handbags". WHile that may well be the motivation for some using OF, if you look at the motivations some have outlined on this thread it includes:

  1. Needing to supplement their full time job to support their children
  2. Needing a job they can "fit in" around being a single mum, being a student, caring responsibilities etc etc
  3. Needing to pay rent
  4. wanting to buy a house (actually a reasonable dream)
  5. self esteem - being made to feel better about their bodies/weight/looks etc

That is VERY similar to the MLM language (I know people say it isnt the same but seriously its amasing how similar the language used by MLM bots and OF defenders is). And that is what really pisses me of about MLMs - the women conned into them arent usually motivated by sheer greed (although of course there are lots of "won a holiday in Las Vagas"/"look at my car"/"boss-babe" vibes. A lot of the marketting seems to be centred around exploiting women's vulnerabilities. And while I can see describing many women on OF as "vulnerable" sounds patronising, I think we can all agree that most of us have vulnerbilities (and at certain points of our lives we may have many). OF definately exploits this.

So I wouldnt judge most women using OF to make money - but I think there needs to be some honesty about the fact that most won't make anything like the amounts that it is implied they can, that there is a lot of work involved, and that the costs can be very very great. The fact that everyone scrambles to cover this up, or starts shouting about how wrong it is for women to shut other women down is VERY MLM. And I do judge those that knowingly engage in that deceit.

apalledandshocked · 23/05/2021 10:13

But many many people will judge, and it can have a huge affect. And it isnt just judgemental bitter women "that are just jealous" that are the problem. Many of the men happy to pay for only fans are probably the same men who, further down the line will also choose not to recruit someone because they had an account/take the piss out of their mate because they found out his fiancee has/had one, feel "betrayed" if they find out their own wife had one in the past.
Case in point - the paramedic (in the middle of a pandemic no less) who had to use Only Fas to make ends meet. A journalist "exposed" her, and she lost her job... Because People Will Judge. It might be shitty bt its true.
