To think the school are BU by wanting me to get DS tested?

A member of the household had covid symptoms but the test came back negative. DS(5) now has caught the cold and has a cough and the school are asking for a test. I don't want to get him tested as I know it's a cold but aibu or are the school?

You don’t ‘know it is a cold’. If he has a cough you should self all isolate and get him tested.

Eskarina1 · 19/05/2021 13:40

I don't want to say yabu because I'd feel the same way but I understand that technically the school are right

eurochick · 19/05/2021 13:41

He has a cough. He should be tested or isolate for ten days. I know it's annoying but the school is in the right here

springblossom2 · 19/05/2021 13:41

I don't want to get him tested as I know it's a cold

Hmm

If it was that easy to tell, maybe this corona virus thing wouldn't have spread so much.

luckylavender · 19/05/2021 13:41

You have no idea if it's just a cold. You need to get him tested.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 19/05/2021 13:42

Yabu, you need to get him tested or keep him off school for a couple of weeks.

You don't know its a cold at all.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/05/2021 13:42

We wouldn't need a testing system if everyone knew when it wasn't covid
Don't you want to test to be sure?

SummerHouse · 19/05/2021 13:43

Yeah it's a pain in the arse but he needs a test. Thems the rules. School can only follow.

EnidPrunehat · 19/05/2021 13:43

Of course you should get him tested. Why wouldn't you?

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 19/05/2021 13:44

Does he have a cough? Temp? Loss of taste or smell?

If no to all above then they shouldn't be forcing you to get him tested.

And if he does have a cough, then you are unreasonable for considering yourself as accurate as a test!

HazeyJaneII · 19/05/2021 13:45

Get him tested (oh and the whole household should be isolating until the results if he has symptoms)

MotherOfGremlins · 19/05/2021 13:45

Are you for real? Not only do you need to get him tested or have him isolate, but the rest of the household and any support bubble that he's been with in the past 48 hours also needs to isolate until you get the result.

lucyslocketinherpocket · 19/05/2021 13:45

Ugh, it's annoying but you need to test.

DD is in a tiny class (15 children) in the last ten days, 5 of them have had to have time off for a test, all of them negative, and all back the next day. They've all had the same ever so slight cold but with a cough and a day of fever. All had PCR tests, all negative. It's gone round the parents too. We've all been tested, all negative plus DH and I are doing home testing twice a week too. I'm coughing like I smoke 20 a day!

So we've all clearly got the same cold, it's definitely not COVID but when the time came we sucked it up, isolated for a day and tested. It's just the annoying world we live in at the moment!

Greenmarmalade · 19/05/2021 13:46

I completely get you and this would also frustrate me.

But school are following the rules so they are correct.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 19/05/2021 13:46

YABU I'm afraid. Either get him tested, or assume it is covid and isolate for 10 days.

TheGumption · 19/05/2021 13:46

🙄

Sirzy · 19/05/2021 13:47

It probably is a cold. But you don’t know that for sure. Get him tested

QwertyGirly · 19/05/2021 13:47

After a year of this palaver, you still don't know what the rules are.

Get him tested.

Quality0 · 19/05/2021 13:47

It is a cold.the covid result was negative and DS has now caught a cold. He's fine in himself and no fever.

Your child has one of the three main symptoms that dictate he needs a test - why do you think you are special and can ignore this?

Sometimeswinning · 19/05/2021 13:52

Just test him. I seriously dont understand the issue??

TheUndoingProject · 19/05/2021 13:52

You don’t know it’s a cold at all. You think it’s a cold. Get him tested. Your behaviour is selfish and putting others at risk. How will you feel if it is covid and he’s spread it to someone vulnerable?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/05/2021 13:53

You don’t know that it’s a cold or that he’s caught it from sibling though. He does need a test if he has a cough.

I’ve been in the same situation myself - Ds had a cold, gave it to Dd who had a cough with it, as did I. We got tested and all negative (had Ds tested too just in case). Just the way it goes!

When they went back to school I slept all day!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/05/2021 13:53

(Because I’d had them off while waiting for results by which time they were better and I was ill!)

trevthecat · 19/05/2021 13:54

Oh for god sake! It's been a year of this and this same story comes up all the time. Of course the child needs a test.
