Being ‘told off’ for minor rule infringements on Facebook groups

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/05/2021 13:15

AIBU to just roll my eyes and leave the group? Anyone else just cannot be bothered with the wrists slapping that goes on? I know its childish of me. I know if I sign up and agree ‘the rules’ I should respect the people who moderate the group. But man I feel like some of these people just love the power.

It’s like the only power I have is to think ODFOD and flounce 🤣

Caveat is that I don’t have any real Facebook group that I’m wed to. So to flounce makes no difference to my quality of life.

YABU - get over yourself and just follow the bloody rules
YANBU - these people just LOVE the power trip

YANBU generally but what kind of rule infringements? I’m in a local group on fb and there is a rule against people spamming it with their MLM posts. I think that’s a fair rule and should be enforced.

UhtredRagnarson · 17/05/2021 13:17

What sort of rules are you breaking? Grin

UCOinanOCG · 17/05/2021 13:18

PutTheCakeDOWN · 17/05/2021 13:20

I need to know what rule you broke 😂

piefacedClique · 17/05/2021 13:22

I uploaded a photo of a piece of furniture if up-cycled in to a chalk paint group.... the reply from admin started with ‘tut tut tut.... it’s not ‘transformation Tuesday’ so your post has been deleted! Seriously!’ I was not amused! How was I to know! 😩

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/05/2021 13:22

Pmsl. Mentioning eBay 😦

But yes, Facebook ‘admins’ make me roll my eyes more than anything.

‘Admin here.
Can people just take a moment to appreciate that the admin team all have full time jobs, and manage this page (it’s a group but nm) for free in our own time. We do this for your benefit. Please read the pinned post and follow the forty billion stupid rules to avoid us having to mute you, which we hate doing but are fully prepared to in order to protect the community #bekind’

And I just think ‘oh up yer bum’

😂

I can remember I was part of some American group that followed a diet plan associated with a book. My god it was a scary place to post. I think it was something like Whole30. Because I had eaten a tiny morsel ‘off plan’ they demanded ‘I went right back to the beginning’. It was such a minor infringement of the plan that I think I argued it was not enough to undo 25 days of following the plan to the letter. I was told using all caps to ‘GET BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE PLAN’. I said they were all mental and left Grin

Lol, I'm on one where there is a specific term that everyone must use for the activity. E.g. suppose it was table tennis and the term ping pong was banned. Anyone new who joins up and uses the wrong terminology is absolutely slaughtered by the moderators. It's funny (and I don't even do this activity although I was thinking about it so I really should leave it but it's too funny).

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/05/2021 13:27

Is like a ‘drop the mic’ moment in my head.

I have LEFT the building 🎤

I’ve seen this on so many different FB groups I’m on!

I got told off on one for not including a trigger warning and in hindsight I should really have included one even if it wasn’t in the rules (which it was) so I just reposted but some get silly!

Biker47 · 17/05/2021 13:31

One of the groups I was part of had a discount code for an affiliated retailer, you weren't' allowed to post the code anywhere on the page, it was located in the files section of the page, so if anyone ever asked for a code, you had to direct them to the files section instead of just typing out the code into a 2 second reply, was done under the guise of stopping the code being shared outside of the group... the group was a closed group and if someone was going to screenshot it to share outside, they already had to have access to the group, so could just either share the code elsewhere by typing it out, or screenshot the files section and share that, admins got quite pious about that.

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/05/2021 13:33

I don’t even think the tone was off in my latest scolding. Like it was pleasantly done.

My guess is that Covid has just made me so incredibly sick of all the stupid fucking rules that I’ve run out of tolerance. From following arrows in supermarkets that all lead to the far left corner of the store and stop. To being shouted at in shops for getting to close to another person (I wasn’t). To companies hiding behind covid to offer zero customer service. I’m just on my last nerve I think.

I was threatened with a ban for saying Americans are weird for having a peanut butter dip with a hotdog pickle thing.

Clearly needed ranch and I stand by that.

MrsBarnstable · 17/05/2021 13:34

I disagree, you said you'd abide by the rules. Our local FB group was bombarded with adverts, I was bloody glad when they said they'd ban them if they didn't stop

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/05/2021 13:34

I wasn’t bombarding anyone with adverts. I take your point though.

YABU. Just follow the rules, it’s really not that hard Confused

piefacedClique · 17/05/2021 13:37

It is hard when they are 80 million rules tho 😂😂😂

brokengate · 17/05/2021 13:37

We had a village community resilience group during lockdown but it was becoming a bit of a free for all so sales and community issues (dog poo) became two separate pages.

Three admins per page.

I was to admin community page with two others. I have been kicked off as an admin because I allowed a post offering free plants on the community page and it should have been sent to the sale page. Plus I posted a picture of a shit load of litter left by the river and was told that it clearly was not anyone in the community so I should not be posting it there. Dog poo only in the community page. Grin

I’m old abd I literally only use it for groups 😬. Which of course I’m slowly running out of Grin

SmokedDuck · 17/05/2021 13:42

I used to belong to a neighbourhood page where there was a ban on all political advertising and posts. Except for the moderator who posted them all the time, but only for the one party.

I eventually was kicked out of the group, with a bunch of others, for disagreeing with the moderator about a location for the community picnic.

Meme69 · 17/05/2021 13:44

Oh put village one is like this. Also one called "hit the ambulance" which I got muted on for saying to someone I know, that they loved taking the piss out of me - this was totally said in a jokey way, with laughing emoji. Apparently "taking the piss" is offensive and so they gave me a warning and muted me. I removed myself from the group to save them the bother.
