Female weekend hobbies

Frequently men having "hobbies" that take them away from their family/house at the weekends is frowned upon.
But surely what we should be doing is encouraging women to also maintain a sense of self and own interests away from the family? IMO it's good for the family and for the individual.

So wise MNetters - hit me up with your weekend hobbies where you make your husbands/partners/SO weekend widowers.

Surely there are only so many fences you can build? Or is it a side line business?

I'd assumed it was fencing with a sword-like thingy (epée maybe?). I quite like a bit of hammer and wire-type fencing though.
I garden a fair bit (half an acre at the moment but I keep making the garden bigger and it will eventually be about 3 acres). It is a nice mix if things I need to do alone in my greenhouse with the radio on, and things that other people can join in with.I enjoy hard work like digging and find sowing seeds and pricking out seedlings very calming. Also, I get food! (I just realised that it sounds like I'm stealing land - I'm not, I'm just moving a fence which runs through land I already own!).

I like hobbies which produce something, so I also sew, quilt and knit. I like the feeling of being able to think "I need/want x thing" and then going and making one without the need for shopping or talking to people (am not always the most sociable person!).

I take my horse to competitions.
Normally one weekend day for 6 is hours. Then
4 times a year i go for 3 night away just me and my horse and leave DH and kids at home. Total bliss!

Cycling.
Is my weekend hobby.
I mean, what other hobby is worth having? Wink

MumofSpud · 13/05/2021 18:34

@NeverDropYourMoonCup

Only if it's a Mint Club.
I was just about to post mmmmmm Orange or Fruit clubs (1 of your 5 a day?!) missing the point of the thread

In this house it’s tennis and wild swimming and paddle boarding. Including some tournaments etc but it’s rare one of disappears for a half or whole day. Generally it’s a couple of hours, a few hours and we get equal-isn’t time. Both women tho. No DH dressing like a manimal and going off all weekend...

A Manimal? A Furry Cyclist?
Pinetreesfall · 13/05/2021 18:44

@motherloaded maybe I'm missing a trick! But there's only so many hours in a day. Often work consumes my day until about 10pm Confused

Redsquirrel5 · 13/05/2021 18:44

Used to be horses now it is choir.

Sunday is church then choir. I love it.

JustMeAndWheatley · 13/05/2021 18:46

Bell ringing

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/05/2021 18:47

Feet up on the sofa with a book has always been a favourite of mine.
But I hate the word ‘hobby’ - to me it conjures up someone either nerdy or obsessive.

SorrelForbes · 13/05/2021 18:47

Am-dram
City breaks with friends or by myself.

HeadNorth · 13/05/2021 18:47

@Pinetreesfall

Hooow do some of you get time for all this at the weekends?! I have to cram in everything I don't get done in the week to weekends. I dance once a week in the evening and that is literally all I have time for.
I have a cleaner and my house would still give most of the posters on the thread about Britain's lack of hygiene the heebie jeebies.
nokidshere · 13/05/2021 18:48

My hobbies are all mostly done at home. So my ideal weekend would be everyone else going off to do their stuff leaving me with the house to myself.

QueryA · 13/05/2021 18:51

Curling 🥌. Though ice rinks have really been decimated by Covid. Apparently the virus likes the cold 🙄

Pottedpalm · 13/05/2021 18:52

Ballet
Gardening
Knitting

JaquelineBeanstalk · 13/05/2021 18:53

Parkrun. Travelling to new parkruns, often tagged on to a weekend or day trip to visit family. Dancing weekends away. Eclipse hunting ( to be fair this is only once every 2 or 3 years at most.....) Other running events.

Febo24 · 13/05/2021 18:53

Tending to my lady garden.

genuinely, priority.
that's why I have never made a costume for my kids (amazon), never baked a cake for a PTA sale (shop bought), sometimes reorder exactly the same foodshop as the week before, and sometimes don't change my bedsheets every week Grin

I am also only on MN when I procrastinating or waiting for something at work.

Susannahmoody · 13/05/2021 18:54

Thought netball said Nutella

Kittromney · 13/05/2021 18:56

A lot of crafting, painting, sewing, pottery, flower arrangement, photography. Doesn’t get me out of the house but I live alone 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve gotten into hiking quite a bit the last few years.

CorianderBee · 13/05/2021 18:58

Paddle boarding, archery and clay pigeon shooting for me :)

krustykittens · 13/05/2021 18:58

Horses here for me too, although I seem to spend more time on fencing and land management than riding! Just spent the better part of this evening making a gate highland pony-proof. First, he figured out how to open it, then, when I locked it, he figured out that if he pushed his half ton bulk up against it hard enough he could pop the nailed-in bracket right out of the fence post. It now has several feet of chain wrapped around the fence post, the latch is now a lock and unless the fucker develops thumbs, he's not getting that open. Neither of us are very happy with the other at the moment and we both wish I had another hobby.
